Tank would’ve been undefeated if he had some defensive skills. Dude straight brawled and took the punishment. He had incredible power behind those haymakers.
Yes, but it's a great misnomer that he was just a brawler. It's true that he had power, but the real reason he was able to have success in fighting was because of his wrestling. He took down most of his opponents and finished them in top position. The ones he didn't take down he utilized the clinch to knock out. Even the Matua KO which was seemingly all standup was a result of awkward positions due to wrestling and Tank using his off hand to control/move Matua. The wrestling Tank incorporated made the fight look even sloppier so I understand why some think he was just a brawler.
tank always talked about ken shamrock but then ken challenged tank to a fight in the octagon tank turned the fight down. oh well more to life then fighting.
It's very refreshing to hear someone speak so freely and honestly about their thoughts and memories without fear of being canceled, rather than the usual politically correct nonsense. So you got stomped by Spider-Man and Superman then huh?
One of the best interviews that I've seen Joe perform. Tank was and is a legend and showed his human side during the interview. Great one
I thought Tank was going to talk about a lost civilization judging by the thumbnail lol I'm even more excited to hear from Tank
lmfaoo my exact thought.. I see the guy and I'm like "oh some ancient civilization expert lookin mfr" then I see Tank Abbott and I'm like no fn way
Tank will talk about a great lost civilization where all the men had 1 punch KO power and could bench 600 lbs. They also could drink a bottle of Jack Daniels in one sitting. And for the greatest ones of them all, the bottle of Jack would sometimes talk to them and its voice sounded like Don Frye.
When I saw the thumbnail, my first thought was "Oh another random eccentric boomer contrarian professor or scientist." I was way off.
You cracked me up 😂
Omg me too lol I was like “what crazy ancient aliens guy does joe have on now?”
My jaw dropped when I read the name.
I grew up with Dave. His dad was my strength coach in college. I could tell you many stories. Dave is the ultimate badass.
Knew him well also spent many days during his hay day at Aloha but also grew up together in same track in north HB
@dano4412 what good times we had back then. What I would not pay for a time machine. Getting old sucks.
Everyone who commented , after only a few minutes of watching podcast, joked on his appearance. Listening to this whole conversation, it was abundantly clear tank is lucky to be with us today and its a miracle he overcame his post fight career . He is the ultimate BAMF
I made a comment and stand by it. But it doesn't take away from this man at all. Grew up watching him and his massive balls 😆. One of my favorite wrestling memories is him destroying his own wrestling career by being him. Dude get all the respect. He's taken hundreds of thousands punches, I'm sure he's tough enough to take a joke about his appearance
@@mfwicbasterd477, I still don’t get people saying “what’s wrong with his appearance?” The guy is in his 60th year and is probably lucky he made it past 40. I think he looks like a million bucks considering the ringer he’s been through.
Ya Tank should have the original BMF ha!
@@bigsteed007I think he looks fantastic, look up photos of him right before the hospital and he literally looked 20 years older and on deaths door. I love that he was able to sober up and turn his life around. He looks so much healthier and happier now.
@bigsteed007 he IS Tank Abbott, but not the man we loved. Picture Ali when he was sick. That's what it's like for us. Glad he's healthy and alive.
The amount of times Tank refers to “Big John” Maccarthy as John McCartney is hysterical 😂. And Joe never corrects him
For copyright purposes.....
Bro the Karen McCartney had me dead
i still havent forgiven John McCartney for robbing Tim against Joel Romero, he has had some shockers over the years. Legend for sure but still
would you correct Tank Abbott to his face? are you fucking insane?!?!?! he could mispronounce my name right in front of me and i wouldn't say a word... i might even change the name for him..... haha...
Lmao every time, gold! 😅
Mad respect. Tank is the man.

Tanks dad was my football coach in college. It’s crazy how much tank in his older years reminds me of Coach Abbott in the early 2000’s
Tank Abbott vs Big John McCarthy at UFC 303 😂
Or was it John McCartney ?
you mean McCartney lol
Yes! Book it tomato head
Man, I’m so glad they finally switched to doing full stream videos instead of cutting them up into segments.
Spotify contract finished I assume (previously only full length on Spotify).
Welcome to the real JRE. This is what they all were like before they were posting ads for their Spotify podcasts.
One of those old dudes you fuck around and find out with.
Absolutely no fear... Killspirit..

Man, Tank gave us all a ton of amazing memories in the octagon. This interview makes me sad, sorry to hear he has had to endure so much. He seems like a humbled soul. Bless Tank Abbott.
This is one of the best podcasts I've seen in awhile.
Check out Jaxxon podcast Tank was just on there he wanted to get on Rogan and apologize to Dana ... Rampage had something to do with it I bet.... 🙏

Real OG tough guy. Loved watching him fight. Respect!
I may quit drinking because of this podcast. Thanks Tank.
He had to have a liver transplant... Shit is scary and life changing... Good luck, not saying you have an issue with drinking. I like to drink and at times it was hard for me to stop... What helped me get it under control wasn't thinking I'm quitting, I had the mindset of "I'm just taking a break and I'll be back after awhile" this helped me enough to be able to have a bottle of scotch at the house and not drink the whole fricken thing in one night.

I’ve never been so confused by a thumbnail 🤣🤣🤣🤣

When TF did this happen??? Seems like we just saw vids of him a few years ago benching at the gym and it looked like a slightly older Tank Abbot. Now he's Ned Flanders all of a sudden.
@@cloud890 oh hes still large and powerfull, dont get distracted by his humble manor talking oldschool stuff, he would rip your head of your shoulders in a second, i dont know how the message hasnt got around, dont fuck with him! he seems like a humble guy but that can switch as soon as you think you can show up a little! ever seen the simpson episode where ned goes attack mode, ned is a highly in shape trained weirdo, dont underestimate ppl! thats a big mistake!
Him not liking Big John is hilarious. Tank is legend, and even in his own gripes with people you get the sense (at least now) that he doesnt take them or himself too seriously. Alcohol can change that in people too. Hes a fascinating dude for sure.
That's very true. I remember watching an interview at a small MMA venue years ago, and they asked him what he thought about Tito Ortiz and his response was something like, "He's not a true champion, he's not even a true fighter. But somebody looked at him and thought he had talent for like ten seconds." He was talking about himself (many people don't know Tank was the reason Tito got the chance to fight in the UFC)!
I'll never forget the one match where Tank had his knee in someone's face, grabbed the chain link fence and pushed dudes face slowly through it, all while smiling at the camera. He was different.
Ha yeah he started the no grapping the fence rule, among other rules haha

I met him at Duke's Huntington Beach in maybe 2001 when i was 20. I was afraid to talk to him but my dad told him i was a big fan so he waved me over and when he shook my hand it was totally enveloped, his hand was giant. He gave a great smile and really had good energy. Absolute legend.
Tank would’ve been undefeated if he had some defensive skills. Dude straight brawled and took the punishment. He had incredible power behind those haymakers.
Vitor’s hands were his kryptonite.
And 10-12 others after that
Yes, but it's a great misnomer that he was just a brawler.
I lost and occasionally made a wallet load rooting for Tank. Always was my favorite and glad to see he’s still around.
