    This video is a lifesaver! My Hyundai sonatas engine won’t start. Several friends of mine suggested it’s a fuel pump issue. I replaced the fuel pump with the help of your video and the car started running again.

    Thank you for this video! I just bought a 2003 Sonata and am searching around for any & all info on it. After dropping the tank on my 2000 Ford Windstar, this looks like a breeze!

    I'm assuming you can buy the fuel filter if you want to disassemble the unit and transfer the o rings. Surprised your new pump did not come with a sock. Guess this is a separate order part. If I was to do this I would replace the pump sock too. Great to see others post Hyundai videos.

    I think this is the same as my car I haven't taken it apart yet I have a 2003 Hyundai xg350L... I wanted to get the whole assembly but I don't have three hundred and something dollars or even the cheap Chinese ones, but I'm afraid to get that one... is there anything else in there that I may want to replace while I'm in there.. it looks to have some kind of filter screen on it, are those easy.. I'm assuming they are

  • @shockracer
    @shockracer 8 років тому

    so the long start issue is usually associated with the bypass valve failing. That being said, is the bypass valve inside the pump assembly and is it replaceable or is it just easier and more efficient to replace the entire pump?

    Good morning sir. i have an 02 sonata 2.7. ive replaced the fuel pump and now im getting a lean reading. do you know where the fuel filter is on these cars?

    how would you know if it's the fuel filter or the fuel pump that has to be changed?

    • @BENNIEDARRELL
      @BENNIEDARRELL 6 років тому

      the filter is cheaper and should be changed every couple years anyhow. you'll need someone to test the fuel pump. i usually unhook the fuel line that leads to the engine and turn the key on for a second to see if it pumps. with help too. gotta catch the fuel in a container. caution always helps.

    My car has been running normally for me, but since I've only had it a while the fuel pump could've already been damaged, but today it stopped running and now won't turn on. The engine sounds like it isn't getting any gas and when I push the gas pedal the engine doesn't rev at all. Figured it was the fuel pump, but do you have any other ideas on what it might be?

    • @shannhoffman8624
      @shannhoffman8624  7 років тому +1

      Before you do anything make sure you check all your fuses and see if you can identify your fuel pump relay and rotate that with another relay just to verify its not something simple

      check your throttle cable first if the gas pedal doesn't raise rpms while in park or drive

      @johndamjohn 7 років тому

      there is no filter just a strainer in the tank at the end of the pump. mine is 2003 Hyundai sonata 2.7. look in the filter books at your parts store it will say non serviceable that's because this is none.

    Is it safe to se that battery bolter? That creates sparks and you are working with fuel. I think that is dangerous.

    • @shannhoffman8624

    i have replaced my fuel pump recently after that when i was breaking hard engine stalls can you tell me what is the problem

    • @shannhoffman8624
      @shannhoffman8624  7 років тому +1

      There's many things that could be causing your issue, I would set up a fuel pressure gauge while driving the car to see if it's a fuel issue or if the problem is elsewhere. If your fuel pressure is checking good I would check to make sure you do not have a vacuum leak at your brake booster. I'm not very familiar with the transmissions on these cars but a torque converter lockup could also cause stalling issues.

    Was this done, because the car would not start after putting gas? My 2010 Hyundai Assent GLS 4 cylinder will not start after i put gas. Help?

    • @shannhoffman8624
      @shannhoffman8624  9 років тому

      Linda Luquin This car was having hard start issues, you would have to crank it for a bit before it would start.
      In your case, as long as the correct fuel was used I would first check all the fuses inside the car and engine fuse box. I would then look up the fuel pump relay location in your owners manual and swap it with another relay such as a/c relay. The third common issue with several vehicles is the inertia switch may have tripped if you hit a dip or bump pulling into the gas station. Look up its location and check if its been tripped, if so press the button and rest it.

    • @shannhoffman8624
      @shannhoffman8624  9 років тому +4

      Linda Luquin Another possible cause to your issue is the canister purge valve

    • @BENNIEDARRELL
      @BENNIEDARRELL 6 років тому

      actually your cars symptoms point to the vapor canister purge solenoid that's part of the evap system that burns excess fumes from the fuel tank. it's located on the intake manifold under the hood. it's not too easy to get to. your car may also idle rough in gear. it might even stall. if you have trouble putting gas in the tank it's the vapor canister vent solenoid. another part of the evap system on you car.

      Having the same problem with my 03 sonata. Replaced the entire pump assembly. When key is turned on, there is a clicking sound coming from the back, but no whizzing priming noise can be heard. Engine cranks but does not start. Checked the pump connector which is coming from the battery side and found 4.8 Volts there. Can anyone suggest any solution?

  • @jacquesbrown4829

      Thanks for your reply. Mine was running sluggishly before I touched the pump assembly. I thought it was a pump issue, so I replaced it. Now it's not even starting. Is there any other relay or anything else that I can check?
