USA here. Had the privilege of sitting close to Phil as he gave an impromptu jam in a hotel conference room. Best electric guitarist I've ever seen. He could play it all.
Phil and Tommy. Taught the Yankees how to play Blues, Jazz, Latin They Carried Their Guitars in A Gunny Sack. Go Phil Go. Tommy's holding The Torch. Burn ,Baby, Burn.
oooohhhh nooo I just discovered Tommy had a brother who was also incredible.....! Talent and personality must have been in the water in that home.! Phil doing the Sultans of Swing with Tommy is mesmerizing..!
To think that little brother Tommy was relegated to family band drummer!? The shame of it!?. So, as Phil was the familiar supremo on guitar, I mean Tommy isn't / wasn't / would never be - even the best guitarist in his family!!!... despite being one of the greatest guitarists of all-time - Tommy just can't win! bwaaahahahaaa!?. Like, imagine playing virtuoso guitar like Tommy - um, er, ah... but jeez my big brother is even better (as if that was even possible?!!!) um, er, big brother Phil - u oughta hear him play!?. It's almost comical? Having two such maestro musicians in the one family is rare really. I was lucky enough as a teenager to see Phil & Tommy live in Sydney, at Parramatta River Stage, back in 1987 & they were just the ducks nuts, off-tap, insane in the membrane totally mindblowing players the pair of 'em!. I particularly always loved Phil especially. I moved to QLD in 2000, between 2000-2018 I used to see Phil occasionally buying his milk bread & eggs - just like every other normal old bastard - shopping in my local Buderim Woolworths (QLD). Unassuming, just another regular average garden-variety Aussie bloke in jeans t-shirt & black rubber double-pluggers he always said g'day & had no ego at all you'd never know what a guitar monster lay inside his wiry nondescript frame & furrowed cragged brows unless you knew... what a guitar killer extraordinaire was Phil. 🎸 RIP Phil Emmanuel - sorely missed & never forgotten.🤘
@@NoName-ql1wk ok I'll pay that (I've been playing guitar since 1979), seriously though, technically musically & proficiency wise Tommy takes the cake yes, just Phil was always the more larrikin knockabout funnier more gregarious than Tommy & if you couldn't get along with Phil - you couldn't get along with anyone. If I'm honest, and I am, you're right Tommy eventually became the superior performer, but Phil had that indefinable cheeky saucy carefree attitude about him I just loved as a young fella learning to play. 🎸 Cheers, respect & be nice to ya missus... & remember far too much guitar is grossly inadequate, woefully insufficient & nowhere near enough!🎸

He sure was. Actually I toured with him on FOH and he loved reverb especially when he was playing Shadows songs. Even doing Dire Straits he had a generous serve of verb & delay.
Deadset friggin legends. Him and his brother. .... top blokes the pair of em... The purpose of this video was to sell the amp. Phil was doing me a favour by playing it as I don’t play guitar. It was never about showing off his playing. Please understand that. Of course once we lost him any videos with him playing are precious.
@@glasshousestudiosozI understand that, and I have one of these amps or similar a silverface Twin, still so sad to see him so full of life and then t realise he passed just ten days later.
@@glasshousestudiosoz I saw him play on a number of occasions but I remember him with Goldrush who I used to watch every Wednesday night at The Journeys End Wine bar then one night they had added a guitarist and a drummer and were just out of this world it was probably the first gig with the Emmanuels but at that time we had never even heard of them, but what a gig and I was sitting about four or five foot from them always remember that one.

Phil was a nice guy, too nice to tell the knob twister that his guitar was crap, and he hates reverb.
He sure was. Actually I toured with him on FOH and he loved reverb especially when he was playing Shadows songs. Even doing Dire Straits he had a generous serve of verb & delay.
