I was at this show in 1985 and was totally blown away by Richie Blackmore and the whole band. After watching this again, It is still as smoking hot now as it was then. Real rock!!! Masters at their craft!!!!

Heard and watched a lot of rock bands in my day...bought a ticket for me and my woman 1 February, 1985, Long Beach Sports Arena, California. We were already longtime fans. Can tell you these guys were not up there for fame or fortune, or any contractual bs... they weren't even 'performing'. They were having fun, laughing together, and playing the sounds which brought them so much love and loving back. Unique compared to the 'workaday' groups. DP FOREVER 🎶 ROCK N ROLL FOREVER. I saw deep purple in 1985 at the worcester centrum right near the beginning of the year if I recall.There was 2 shows i believe because the first one sold out so fast.The prettiest senior in my high school invited me to go with her...Donna Carvel.... Oh Donna where are you now?I was so proud to accompany you and Forever I have not forgotten the wonderful evening we had...If only I could see you again but I fear it will never happen.Please let me just see you again before the end so I may thank you in person for the unforgettable memories..

This was Mk.2 at their absolute best. I don't care if the guitar solo in Child in Time wasn't the same as the Made in Japan version - this was 13 years later. Gillan had a cold? So what? He sang brilliantly, and the roars/screams at the end were exciting. Purple and Zeppelin were equal.
Gillan didn't particularly have a cold at this show, but I'm sure he's had a few bevvies the night before or before the show. That's just what he sounded like in 85. 84 was a bit better, generally.
The great thing about Blackmore was his solos were always improvised and always different which I have to admit I prefer, always quality which is the main thing👊🏼👊🏼

I was there as well. I remember there was very heavy snow that day, but I thought the band played much better than they had at Knebworth, Gillan and Blackmore both on good form.
This was one of my first concerts ever...y'all say Gillan has a cold, well im glad it was gone by the time they came to New Jersey USA...they sounded great......
all the rumors about this guys voice are false i was at this concert...it was a day before my 22 nd birthday....before the show started you could hear Ian Gillian warming up back stage for highway star the opening song here you could hear him with no microphone or amps he was awesome!!!!and the lazer lights for that era was way ahead of its time!!!!! I was at this show and due to a bad rain storm we got their late and wound up at the top of the hill. People were sliding down on the mud slicks all over the place. But the insane guitar smash from Ritchie is missing?!
And .... the interplay between blackmore and lord at 22 30...they having so much fun. The whole music was complete fresh and had good songs with their typical hard rock influnce.
I was brought here by "British guitarist reacts" aka Wings of Pegasus channel. Learning about so many classic rock bands that were a bit before my time (3 to 12 years old in the 70s). Check his channel out! He does more of a music analysis than a reaction. He has his own original music and does covers as well, excellent musician and teacher!...✌❤🤘
Wow Child In Time was a bit good for the 80s. Yeah, I know there's a backing tape, but that's mostly in the background- he's doing the high bit, here for once. Awesome.
Nice to have another full show pity there isn't full shows with Gillan's voice sounding great instead he's always got a dam cold. Blackmore on the other hand well he's another story altogether
I think in first show in Australia'84 he sings amazing... And in shows in the early 90s hid voice improved a lot, going brilliant...but sure not his partnership with Blackmore, unfortunately...

Better during the HOBL tour. Better early on during the TBRO tour, but once again started fading out as the tour went on.

Gillian is my favorite singer jointly Ronnie James Dio and Bruce Dickinson. But in this period he was negligent and having bad habits. He was smoking ton of cigarettes, drinking everyday and your bad health affected others members. It is possible to see annoying feeling in certain moments not just in Ritchie Blackmore, including the always educated Jon Lord felt bad with awful Gillan’s behavior
I won't get into this debate about Ian's voice For those who are aware, his voice was mostly like that in this period. I'd give a fair right to Mr B for saying that if you got some problem with your voice then take care of it, instead of drinking all night and not sleeping well... In overall I would say that is standard perfomance, Paicy and Lordy being firm as ever and maybe too many Johnnie's for Ritchie... Still waiting for the video from August 1985 Texxas Jam. 80,000 in attendance Purple Headlined 12 hour jam. Was a great performance. Sad they still wont release it. I did see a video of Space Truckin from the Jam but that's it. Blackmore's notes & tone nothing like the 70's Mk2. Paice sounded better with Ludwigs bit Pearl pays him to use theirs. Gillian smoking cigs & booze was dumb. That said the Texxas Jam performance was great. Crowd loved it. Blackmore did a cool deal in Truckin during solo where we thought he was going to do a you fool no one kick ass solo but he just made 10 seconds of noise. Nothing else. In 1994 Gillan sounded better on the Secret Tour. And Mr. Morris played the songs to the record much more. Texxas Jam 85 was a good concert. Their best of the reunion shows. Still waiting patiently for the legal crap to let them release that show. 80,000 fans..
What date in August was this? Cos almost exactly 5 years later (in the post-midnight hours of August 27, 1990), Stevie Ray Vaughan perished in that horrible helicopter accident in the same place after playing his final concert here on the 26th. Gillian is my favorite singer jointly Ronnie James Dio and Bruce Dickinson. But in this period he was negligent and having bad habits. He was smoking ton of cigarettes, drinking everyday and your bad health affected others members. It is possible to see annoying feeling in certain moments not just in Ritchie Blackmore, including the always educated Jon Lord felt bad with awful Gillan’s behavior
I've heard from more than 1 person affiliated with management that Gillan's drinking was the root of his friction with Ritchie. Just sayin'

I won't get into this debate about Ian's voice
For those who are aware, his voice was mostly like that in this period.
I'd give a fair right to Mr B for saying that if you got some problem with your voice
then take care of it, instead of drinking all night and not sleeping well...
In overall I would say that is standard perfomance, Paicy and Lordy being
firm as ever and maybe too many Johnnie's for Ritchie...

I did see a video of Space Truckin from the Jam but that's it.
Blackmore's notes & tone nothing like the 70's Mk2.
Paice sounded better with Ludwigs bit Pearl pays him to use theirs.
Gillian smoking cigs & booze was dumb.
That said the Texxas Jam performance was great. Crowd loved it.
Blackmore did a cool deal in Truckin during solo where we thought he was going to do a you fool no one kick ass solo but he just made 10 seconds of noise. Nothing else.
In 1994 Gillan sounded better on the Secret Tour. And Mr. Morris played the songs to the record much more.
Texxas Jam 85 was a good concert. Their best of the reunion shows.
Still waiting patiently for the legal crap to let them release that show.

Cos almost exactly 5 years later (in the post-midnight hours of August 27, 1990), Stevie Ray Vaughan perished in that horrible helicopter accident in the same place after playing his final concert here on the 26th. RIP SRV, still missed. Why has there been no new SRV material (legally) released since 2018? Does Jimmie want us to forget how great he was?
