The best thing I ever did was watch all your videos from the start because now I can appreciate the honesty and the way to tackle review progress and what works well. Anyone who has go from the beginning you’ll understand their progress so much better!

Have you looked at the sight word program by Logic of English? It’s called “sounding out the sight words” it teaches children how to decode 98% of what we refer to as sight words. So instead of rote memorization she would be given tools to sound them out.

I must be expecting too much out of my kindergartener! We've been homeschooling since age 3 but I try to keep up with the local school system and they expect kids to be able to read beginners chapter books. Also recognizing and writing up to 100 and add and subtract using numbers up to 20. Which we achieved but it was stressful. Maybe this year we'll take a slower pace approach. Love your channel!

I have a my youngest who was supposed to be in K this school year and I don’t see how he’d be able to handle all this that you’ve used. It seems like it’s too much. I’m glad you are waiting until your daughter is ready. I’ve learned to wait until they are ready so I don’t kill their love of learning.

I encourage you to look up what a kindergartener should learn! They need to be able to write their numbers up to 20 and add and subtract from digits 1 to 10. They need to write their letters, then they should write simple words and sentences by the end of the year, if possible. They definitely don't need to know all of the stuff shared here in this video! Hope that helps! I am almost done with my twins' kindergarten homeschooling journey. We have used the highlights big fun kindergarten workbooks and the human body workbooks for kindergarten- second grade. They loved them! We are now moving onto a science book with the seasons, plants, basic life cycles(which they need to know), and a sight words book and something to help with phonics too.

HI there. I had watched one of your other videos and you suggested Moffet girls from TPT and I think it is the perfect way for a lot of repetition and learning sight words and word families. I have a first grader that isn't really ready for first grade at all. Thanks a lot for the recs!

I’m all about you making videos again. 🥳 With L5, we just got thru lesson 7 in the Reading Lesson, but we also review a couple pages from the older lessons as we progress. So I do two pages in the new lesson and two pages in an old lesson, just to keep practicing some of her sight words (and giving her an “easy” boost of confidence). I never knew about the accompanying handwriting book! That’s neat.

My kindergarten was revamped also this past year. Snap Words used as sight word flashcards have done WONDERS for my 6yr old daughter. She's confident in her reading now. I'm investing in all the sets this year. Amazon and Rainbow resources have the best deals. We watched Easy-Peasy get ready 1 lesson as reinforcement. The Logic of English was another hit. It moves at a pace that really worked for my kid. I did have to kind of "right-brain" the phonic cards so they would stick( lots of stickers were added to them ). The doodling that your daughter does in her workbooks reminds me of mine. Stickers, markers, and stamps are used in excess in our home when reading comes around. You'd think the ETC books came in color they are so decorated in my house. According to my daughter reading lessons have to be "pretty and full of color" she even put on lipgloss for her lessons. Some kids work well with less things to work on .....others need more. My daughter has taught me that "more" may sometimes include makeup. Hey, do whatever works!

We find that My world works better with the videos and then worktext. The interactive lesson make it easy for them to explore the Big Question and help them to find answers or ideas from their own life. Its a very structure (but easy to follow) curriculum.

I got my self a hold of the McGrawhill Book from watching one of your older videos but am learning that it’s making my daughter forever to remember site words. She always just tries to sound it out phonetically. So we will be using Logic is English since it’s very thorough in teaching all the sounds that letters make. They do Have what they call high frequency words but it does push for memorizing of site words. It also teaches handwriting, and then spelling and grammar as you move up I the curriculum. You should check it out! 😊

I have so much information from your curriculum reviews. So helpful to me! I did purchase the Texas math K. I'd love to know if you have any guidance. My girl is 4. She has been teaching herself math somehow, though. Ex.: she will walk around talking to herself and you hear her say "1+1+1+1 is 2+2 is 4" Its a little CRAZY, I tell you! The Texas math book is good somehow because she has a VERY HARD time writing. Which is normal I guess. She's 4, after all (5 in the end of Nov.). She is way beyond the actual math in the textbook, however. We keep doing it because of poor writing skills. Please hit me with any suggestions you may have. I will head over to IG and find you, now, too. (Breakfast with Brynja)

@@HomeschoolOfBelAir since you have a range of different grades going on, do you have any suggestions on what level I should search workbooks for my girl? I really do try to stick with your meet them where they are, style. I'm just at a bit of a loss as to where she is exactly. We are working on writing skills with manipulatives and games to improve finger strength etc., in addition to all of the printing practice. She sleep talks about numbers though. She taught herself to add and subtract.... the other day she was telling me how 4 fours is sixteen. It's an awkward place for finding her "level". Nobody really seems to be able to help me. (PS she just finished the McGraw Hill reading book with the bear on it. It WAS EXCELLENT!!!! Thank you for that one!
