New SEAT Ibiza FR First Drive

- The new SEAT Ibiza is here and seeing as I own a third generation Ibiza FR, I thought it'd be rude not to have a go in the latest FR. The model tested here is in a gorgeous Desire Red and is fitted with a 1.0 litre turbocharged engine producing 113bhp. 0-62 comes in 9.3 seconds and the top speed is 121 mph.
So on paper then, the new FR appears to be a bit on the slow side, but cars aren't driven on paper, so what's it like on the open road? I took it to the infamous Evo Triangle see what's what.

Really good and informative review. I also had a Mk 3 Ibiza, a 1.2 S and I also had it for over 10 years. Was a great car and that's why I'll be buying one of these.

I drive a 1.4 2014 model great car from new. just ordered my nerves 1.0 fr.black changing my wheels to the ones you've got on the model your driving.

@@CABEZAS--LUNA Hi Cristos, thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Apologies for the large delay in responding; I did not get a notification for your comment. There's a good chance you've made your mind up, but I've not driven a Polo, so I can't comment on that.
In regard to the ST, that's not really comparable to the FR, the ST-Line is a better match of you ask me and out the two cars the ST-Line is more fun but the Ibiza feels more grown up and has more space.
I went for the 115ps FR trim Ibiza over the fiesta and this drives like a lion

I think SEAT have done a very good job! Design, color, technology, rear room and boot. Just wish they would make a 3 door version. There's something I don't like with the rear doors merging with the C pillar...
Hey Oliver, thanks for watching. Funnily enough, I'll be testing the 1.5 litre model tomorrow - video for that will come soon. Yeah, a three door would look better, but quite a few brands offer 5-door only hatchbacks nowadays.

@@inxsbcn hope your 1,5 still runs? Its an experimental car which only produced for two years with alot of problems. The new one with auto transmission and software update is allright but i still prefer the 1.0.

Great little car, much prefer it to the new fiesta, hard choice between this and the new polo! Surprised the fr didn't have electric windows in the back! Even my 2010 mk5 se ibiza does!
JamesyBoyJim Yes, I was quite shocked by it too! In regards to this or the Polo, I'd have the Ibiza everyday.
At least in spain, this car has electric windows in the back as an option in the two starter options and as standard in the Excellence and FR

I'd personally go for the 1.5 engine though for that bit more power

Need a help from you gym. I bought a 2nd hand Ibiza 2018 FR 1.5 model. But next to spare wheel's (Big wheel with cover on top) left side black box is missing. Not sure what is it. If you could tell me what does it call or what is it. will be great full . Thank you in advance

Three month wait? I ordered a 115 FR Sport, manual today in Desire Red. Mine's an 18 week wait :D I was going to go for a Fiesta ST Line X but there's no way Ford can justify that extra price tag IMO, having closely gone over both cars and taken them out twice each. The standard ST Line is a bit more competitive but the cloth seat trims feel properly cheap. Whereas the seats on the FR Sport.....different class.
I tested the Fiesta ST line too but the room in the back was crap and I preferred the Seat's looks and interior too, plus it cheaper.
@@ronshephard9429 Agreed, the ST Line is a good car, but the Ibiza offers better rear/boot space and I'd argue it looks better
@@ronshephard9429 Yeah it's certainly much roomier in the back of the Ibiza - the latter feels like a much bigger car than the Fiesta tbh. I really liked the Fiesta, don't get me wrong, but it didn't win the fight. It was out of the Fabia, Fiesta and Ibiza for me, but once I'd seen, sat in and driven the Ibiza, the choice was pretty straightforward. So much more for your money in the Seat.

Hi there, thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment. To be honest, the FR and the Polo aren't really comparable to the Fiesta ST as that is a hot hatch and the others aren't. I've not driven the polo so I can't comment, although I wouldn't have thought it would feel that different from the Ibiza as they are built on the same platform.
If I was picking between those cars I go for the Fiesta ST as that will be the most fun. Hope this helps.

Oh...Now that is a tough one...I would say the ST-Line feels a bit more fun to drive, but the FR is better looking and it it's more practical. However, I'm still sat on the fence a bit! Thanks for watching.
If we convert 200Nm into foot pounds by dividing it by 1.355818 (200 / 1.355818) we get... 147.5124. So this car makes 148 lb-ft of torque.

The torque's pretty impressive if you bear in mind my 2006 Ibiza FR offers only 20 more, but with a bigger, 1.8 litre engine.
Was seriously considering this car until i found out they don't have rear electric windows and not even an option unless you get the xcellence! We are in 2017 Seat not 1997
Yeah, I found it hard to believe as well. My 2006 Ibiza FR has rear electric windows, although I'm not sure if they were standard at the time as I bought the car used, but I would have thought they were.
It has electric windows now
So what if it doesn't have electric windows in the back. You can't wind them down from the front so what's the problem.
It's the same story on pretty much all the other cars in its class though. Although tbf, they are a paid option on the rival cars! Thing is, with climate control nowadays, the rear windows don't get opened anywhere near as much and I'm not bothered myself because it's only my kids in the back occasionally.
I payed less for my 1.9 TDI sport rider 2 . This new engines and all accessories are fake and cost too much. You must raise your foot to reach the brake pedal. Windshield reflects everything and you get blind on sunny day.Start/Stop button should not be there near the gearbox.You can easily click it by mistake.

Hello Mike, thanks for watching. I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy the video, but I have to ask, what else were you expecting? It's a car review, which involves driving a car and talking about it. Were you expecting handbrake turns or stunts or something? As you can see from the likes and comments, this video has been VERY well received, so I'd argue the video is just fine.

That's a fair enough comment, and I appreciate that feedback. I had the car for a limited amount of time, so there was only so much footage I could get it. As it is, I made it to the lunch stop late and I also missed my train home as well.
So why watch it then?
