It has a special and significant meaning for me too, Daniel. Your dad loves you. Songs like this are a gift, even when painful. Thank god/goddess/universe/oneness for music 🎶
My little brother Daniel I love u and am so sorry I couldn’t carry you threw the hurt and pain u went threw before you took your life. I wish our shoes where switched in a heart beat just to allow your heart to beat one more time... I love you and miss you so much my brother
OMG I’m so sorry..God bless you Daniel you’re the star in the face of the sky🎻... I just lost 3 people I dearly loved..the pain is crippling..I just hope that feeling like a wounded deer will pass soon for me and you...
His spirit knows you would. I’m thinking of you, Scott. Keep talking to him. He’s at peace and free now. Don’t believe anything different and live well for him and for you. ✌🏽 💜
This just choked me up..I lost my Mom on December 1, 2020 and it completely broke my heart. She was only 71. I'm so sorry for the loss of your Mom. It's a pain like no other..I miss mine every single day.. ❤️🥺
I can never get enough of the rasp in Brett's voice and the true emotion the way he sings this cover. It just gets my heart pounding so much!! Daniel is a star in the sky!! He sure is!! I miss him so much! I truly think this is the best cover ever!!
I was floored by this. I was listening to the prerecorded version on Fuel's album and came upon this. This live version sounds even better than the prerecorded one. Amazing job by Brett.
I just want to say.. I saw fuel at Nashville City Winery the other day. I've always been a huge fan but when I heard Brett Scallions sing live, it changed my life forever. This cover is so amazing. I play it over and over. It gives me goosebumps.
He came out and did this acoustic the other day at House of Blues Orlando. It was absolutely breathtaking. I wish I would have recorded it but I was just taken back and too into it to stop and record.
Probably my favourite song in the entire world. I couldn’t imagine a cover being so well done but this one ☝🏻 I love this version. Very well done. The emotion brought tears to my eyes.
This is the exact way they sung this at Common Ground in Michigan many a many years ago. I remember it clearly & the feeling of awe that took over me that night while this song was being played, for years I've thought about that & how much I wish cell phones would have been out back then to captured that moment! Fast forward over 15years & I come across this! My life is complete! Lol. Thanks for posting. ❤🤘🎶
I had this song on a cd years ago and could never find it! they released it on a greatest hits cd or something, but it wasn't the same! so glad I found this!
I was in the Navy stationed in Italy 95 and had a stillborn named Nathaniel James and flew back to states without him for 2 months so this is our song forever!!!!
I was never a big fan of Brett, but as I've listened to more of his singing, he always puts everything into every song and they are always full of emotion and that is not easy. This is a great cover! Thanks for posting it!
Brett w fuel and Elton John are both amazing in thier own ways. the cover is in my opinion AMAZING seen Brett and fuel live once, and I wish I had the chance to see them do this song. Fuel is a great band, and obviously Elton John has earned his stripes. Fuel does a great job with the replication. love fuel, and elton
You really can't compare Elton John and Brett Scallions. Two different vocalists with two very amazing voices. When you know a vocalist has nailed a cover, is when you feel the same as you do when you hear the original. This song gives you just that.
@6666666662 His voice, the energy and emotions he puts into this song is what makes this version spectacular, which is why alot of people like it, brett is definitely talented. you are entitled to your opinion, and I respect it, i just dont agree with it.
I tell you at first I was like (subconsciously: What is this!) then when his voice came to I was BLOWN AWAY! This guy has a voice that is so memorizing! Man~! I wonder why he doesnt do his hair like that video Had a Bad day. Girls were freaking out over him....
Anyone who's lost a brother or a person close to them will feel this. It's so hard isn't it??? Sometimes not being able to have them here. Don't doubt there's something after this life. I believe energy goes on. You're gonna see your loved ones again someday. I'm just certain of it. Of course I could be wrong but I don't think I am.
Thank you for the upload. Not able to keep track of how many times I've listened and watched this video . I think I'm obsessed with Brett's version of Daniel, specifically this performance. The passion was everywhere, perfect for his voice. No offense but I actually prefer Brett's cover to the original by EJ.
This is the best, i never heard of the song until i heard it from Brett. listened to the original and didnt think elton done it justice. great job. love it.
Powerful. This is one of my favorite Elton songs, and this version is a great interpretation of the original. I think you captured and expressed a lot of what he probably felt at the time.
Years on the road. Voice trashed, but the spirit is there. Such feel. Every note hit. Best cover version I've ever seen oh oh and.... As a vocalist, it hurts so good. My wife and I come home after gigs just to re-listen. Great job. If you ever need a bass player, let me know. JAM-out
I did a video of the snow storm on 12/26/2010 with this as background music... You can see it by searching "Snow Storm 12/26/2010" I never knew Brett covered this tune but it grabbed me because it is better than the original or perhaps just an updated LIVE version... Love it... You can't help but sing along...
my stepdad is my childhood bully but one thing he did that was cool was to learn this guitar because he knew I liked this cover and he liked the original and the cover (15 years ago) we jammed it one or twice and it wasn’t great but I felt like I had a dad for a bit doing it. When he dies I’ll sing this at his funeral.
@A1Steaksauces sorry but his voice wasnt even near being trashed here, that roughness in his voice is the way it always was, he can control that by the way. He didnt have problems with his voice until 2003 when he had that accident onstage with carl. His voice today is slowely getting better and better, when I saw them last july he was amazing, not one flaw.
@jamiemarshall1000 true, i dont listen to elton much, but i do have alot of respect for him and his music, his version of this song is amazing, i just prefer brett's version cause its more my taste.
i have enjoyed this song since i got it from limewire way back in the day. but watching this i just realized he says eyes have 'lied' instead of 'died'. it shows two things: 1. brett did not bother to check the lyrics of a favorite song this would not really be a big deal, except... 2. that single word is the defining meaning of the song: from wiki: Bernie Taupin wrote "Daniel" while inspired by the events of the Vietnam War. The lyrics (including a verse in the original draft that was cut from the final version) describe a fictional veteran who was blinded as a result of the war ("your eyes have died"/"but you see more than I") and travels to Spain to escape those around him back home ("do you still feel the pain"/"of the scars that won't heal?"), including his brother, from whose point of view the story is told.[5] "'Daniel' had been the most misinterpreted song that we'd ever written," explained Taupin, in the Two Rooms tribute project. "The story was about a guy that went back to a small town in Texas, returning from the Vietnam War. They'd lauded him when he came home and treated him like a hero. But, he just wanted to go home, go back to the farm, and try to get back to the life that he'd led before. I wanted to write something that was sympathetic to the people that came home." so clearly brett does not know the history of the song. someone should really tell him this. it distracts me now.
Just because someone doesn't know the full meaning of their favorite song doesn't mean it's not their favorite song. I get what your saying, but it doesn't mean that he is lying about it being his favorite song tho
I played this song in 2003 at my son’s funeral. He loved this song.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
😭😭😭
I am truly sorry for your loss
❤❤❤
It is such a beautiful song, I'm so sorry you had to play it for that occasion though.
My dad used to play the guitar and sing this song to me when I was a little kid. I get emotional every time I hear this version
Sorry to hear man, thoughts with ya❤️
OMG I’m so sorry..God bless you Daniel you’re the star in the face of the sky🎻... I just lost 3 people I dearly loved..the pain is crippling..I just hope that feeling like a wounded deer will pass soon for me and you...
Love ya brother
His spirit knows you would. I’m thinking of you, Scott. Keep talking to him. He’s at peace and free now. Don’t believe anything different and live well for him and for you. ✌🏽 💜
My name's Daniel, I have an older brother, and I've been struggling with my mental health for years. This hit me hard. I'm so sorry.
This song has always made me cry. My mom died recently and now it’s even harder. He sings exactly how one feels with these words.
It’s a beautiful song. I’m so sorry Alexis. I hope this song brings you connection and catharsis. You aren’t alone. 💜
This just choked me up..I lost my Mom on December 1, 2020 and it completely broke my heart. She was only 71. I'm so sorry for the loss of your Mom. It's a pain like no other..I miss mine every single day..

I lost my older brother Daniel to addiction. I cannot hear this song without bawling
This is one of my favorite songs/covers of all time. He not only does the song justice, he improves it with passion.
Amazing! Love how he puts emotion to this song. Brett has the most unique voice ever. Love his voice! He rocks!
I can never get enough of the rasp in Brett's voice and the true emotion the way he sings this cover. It just gets my heart pounding so much!!

He sure is!! I miss him so much!
I truly think this is the best cover ever!!
This is classic Brett. Really doesn't matter what song it is, if he feels it, it sounds like THIS. Beat Frontman EVER.❤
My absolute favorite cover of this song. He just killed it! Amazing job!
This is beyond words, one of the best live performances I have ever seen, and I don't particularly like Fuel or Elton John.
I will always hold you in my heart forever. I will carry us both my brother. Dan schiller Rest In Peace
his version always makes me cry.brett nails it in his own way
I was floored by this. I was listening to the prerecorded version on Fuel's album and came upon this. This live version sounds even better than the prerecorded one. Amazing job by Brett.

I just love Brett’s passion when he sings
absolutely
He came out and did this acoustic the other day at House of Blues Orlando.

Probably my favourite song in the entire world. I couldn’t imagine a cover being so well done but this one ☝🏻 I love this version. Very well done. The emotion brought tears to my eyes.
OMG I love this video! The last person who had it took it down and I was so sad! Thanks for posting!!!!
This is the exact way they sung this at Common Ground in Michigan many a many years ago. Remember getting this song back in 05 and playing it on repeat in the car. Buddy and I singing our hearts out. What a tune
One of my favorite songs & my favorite cover of it EVER! I can never listen to this song less than 10 times in a row.
One of the best acoustic covers of all time imo
Excellent rendition of one of my favorite songs in my universe. You nailed it Brett! Wow..
This is up there with Chris Cornells cover of "Nothing Compares" as my favorite grunge covers
I love Elton John and I think that he did this song justice. Great Job!!
.....a new appreciation for this song... just delivered in a different way....
This is the absolute best cover I believe I will ever hear in my life of any song, ever.
I was never a big fan of Brett, but as I've listened to more of his singing, he always puts everything into every song and they are always full of emotion and that is not easy. This is a great cover!
Thanks for posting it!
Love this song. Such amazing lyrics and very well covered. My big brother introduced this song to me and played it so much ever since.
I still find myself playing this over and over
I saw this years ago but it still Floors me. Xo
This is gold! Amazing job Brett.
Brett w fuel and Elton John are both amazing in thier own ways. the cover is in my opinion AMAZING seen Brett and fuel live once, and I wish I had the chance to see them do this song. This song makes me miss my best friend. Daniel Stephens.
My favorite cover! He gives it so much emotion 😆
You really can't compare Elton John and Brett Scallions. Two different vocalists with two very amazing voices. When you know a vocalist has nailed a cover, is when you feel the same as you do when you hear the original. This song gives you just that.
I have always liked this song by Elton John, but I love the way Brett sings it best!! I just love the way he sings!
@6666666662

Great coer! He's got a great voice, and he puts a lot of heart into his singing.
I'm watching this in 2018. Amazing!!!!
when an artist pours his heart and soul into a song
Anyone who's lost a brother or a person close to them will feel this. It's so hard isn't it??? Sometimes not being able to have them here.
Don't doubt there's something after this life. I believe energy goes on. You're gonna see your loved ones again someday. I'm just certain of it. Of course I could be wrong but I don't think I am.
This cover is so badass his voice is killer.FUEL is good
This is amazing. The power in his voice back then was untouchable. His voice is kinda like Adam of 3DG. Unique.
Thank you for the upload. Not able to keep track of how many times I've listened and watched this video . I think I'm obsessed with Brett's version of Daniel, specifically this performance. The passion was everywhere, perfect for his voice. No offense but I actually prefer Brett's cover to the original by EJ.
I totally agree with ethanhawk, never heard a remake sound better than original singer!!! Love the way he signs, puts his heart and soul in his music.
Wife and I are sitting here listening again.....Brett Rocks! Miss him with Fuel. Peace:)
Great Song covered by a awesome band! Brett Scallions did the song true justice and I prefer his cover over the original!

my stepdad is my childhood bully but one thing he did that was cool was to learn this guitar because he knew I liked this cover and he liked the original and the cover (15 years ago) we jammed it one or twice and it wasn’t great but I felt like I had a dad for a bit doing it. @A1Steaksauces

The acoustic guitar really compliments the sorrow of this song. I find it better and sadder than Elton Johns.
@jmewho
yes he does, along with new songs that him and the band has been writing.
Damn bro.
@jamiemarshall1000
true, i dont listen to elton much, but i do have alot of respect for him and his music, his version of this song is amazing, i just prefer brett's version cause its more my taste.
so awesome
i have enjoyed this song since i got it from limewire way back in the day.
but watching this i just realized he says eyes have 'lied' instead of 'died'.
it shows two things:
1. brett did not bother to check the lyrics of a favorite song
this would not really be a big deal, except...
2. that single word is the defining meaning of the song:
from wiki:
Bernie Taupin wrote "Daniel" while inspired by the events of the Vietnam War. The lyrics (including a verse in the original draft that was cut from the final version) describe a fictional veteran who was blinded as a result of the war ("your eyes have died"/"but you see more than I") and travels to Spain to escape those around him back home ("do you still feel the pain"/"of the scars that won't heal?"), including his brother, from whose point of view the story is told.[5]
"'Daniel' had been the most misinterpreted song that we'd ever written," explained Taupin, in the Two Rooms tribute project. "The story was about a guy that went back to a small town in Texas, returning from the Vietnam War. They'd lauded him when he came home and treated him like a hero. But, he just wanted to go home, go back to the farm, and try to get back to the life that he'd led before. I wanted to write something that was sympathetic to the people that came home."
so clearly brett does not know the history of the song. someone should really tell him this. it distracts me now.
but it is still a great cover as he makes it his own.
Just because someone doesn't know the full meaning of their favorite song doesn't mean it's not their favorite song. I get what your saying, but it doesn't mean that he is lying about it being his favorite song tho
I would assume he changed it for his own personal reasons. It's obvious that's what Elton is singing so it's not as if he misheard it.
Nailed it!
It I think this may be the best song I've ever heard
you do realize he is back right, and they do have an album coming out. 2 actually
Excellent!
