Until this day, it completely baffles me why Detroit didn't pick Melo. He was a beast at every level prior to starting in league, legendary college career but they went for a highly risky pick with Darko which clearly never paid off. Yes they still won a championship but think of how many more they could of won with Melo and think how we would rank Melo in the all time rankings if he had 2-3 rings to go with his statistics?
If Detroit never won in 04', that would haunt Pistons fans forever because of how much of an impact player Melo would be. I don't think he would've won ROTY and his numbers would be down, but the Pistons would've been able to get over the ECF during the 00's and possibly delayed the endless Detroit rebuild.
@@sammywoodstock I agree, his number would probably be half of what they were but if he played with such an great defensive team with a winning culture he could of been where Lebron is today, we maybe talking about Melo possibly taking the MVP this year instead of Lebron but instead, Melo is barely still in the league. Carmelo also led his team to the playoffs in the western conference with a 43-39 record while lebron missed the playoffs and led his team to a 26 win improvement. Carmelo was also the first rookie to lead a playoff team in scoring since David robinson in 1989. @@coolman7626 I agree Carmelo deserved the ROY. But he still had a horrible 51% TS, and he had a way better team than LeBron had.
