A now 18-year-old (I think?) Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) learns all about the joys of fooling around and then immediately after, its consequences. It’s all like a Westerosi after school special but a relatively sensitive one that respects how easy it is for a relatively sheltered royal girl to get swept up in unfamiliar emotion.
We know Rhaenyra gets the message because in the very next scene she decides to act on her own desires for perhaps the first time in her life. Rhaenyra flirting with and ultimately sleeping with her sworn knight Ser Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel) is quite the fraught moment. While the power dynamics in the previous scene favored Daemon, here they favor Rhaenyra.
Just one episode ago, Criston told Rhaenyra that he and his family owe everything to her.
Every relationship, it turns out, pivots on this one night. House of the Dragon reminds us there are no normal families in King’s Landing: Power makes all relationships impossible in Episode 7

The incest does not bother me either. The writer's are now working on Rhaenyra and Daemon's relationship and how to write them going forward in Season 2. Because Daemon and Rhaenyra married in the old Targaryen tradition, I think he will be faithful and loves her only. This Nettles is 16 yrs old and will most likely fall for Jace. Hess did say that we are going to see "a different side" of Daemon. Perhaps, that's because the Greens are coming for "Rhaenyra and her children." Will he be a villain or will it be self-defense?

@@CW-rx2js Clearly, Daemon has always loved Rhaenyra. Fans are having a breakdown because he gripped her neck but he was frustrated, grieved, and attempting to make a point. Right after that scene he put his life in danger to introduce himself to a huge dragon. Daemon is more impulsive than dark. However, I think we are going to see a different side of him going into Season 2. He's pissed!

It feels sad how House Targaryan gradually lost its knowledge of its ancestral culture over the generations and in no small way by its own internal conflicts.
That and Andalic Racism/Religious Bigotry. They spent iso much tone trying to appease the Andals and First Men they gradually lost more and more of who they were.

It just occurred to me that a big reason why the Targaryens are obsessed with their ancestral blood purity in order to preserve their ability to bond with and ride dragons is (duh) they are the only dragon rider family of Old Valyria to survive the Doom. Yes, all the Dragon Lords of Old Valyria practiced incest for the same reason, but the Targaryens became especially obsessed with it after the Doom because there were no other dragon lord families to intermarry with to ensure a long lasting and strong Valyrian Dragon Lord bloodline.

Weren't the Velaryions also from Valyria and dragon riders? I don't know if they practiced incest or not but I don't believe the Targaryens were the only family to have survived.

There were dragon riders in the three sister colonies on the day it happened but in the immediate aftermath the citizens rose up and slew the surviving dragon riders visiting them and there was a dragon rider who declared himself emperor of “New Valyria” that he intended to build after returning to his homeland with an army and conquering whatever was left in the aftermath. He, his dragon, and his entire army were never seen or heard from again. That leaves House Targaryen the sole surviving family of dragon riders at the time of Aegon I’s conquest. House Velaryon were never members of the dragon riding noble houses of Old Valyria. They were a seafaring people all through Old Valyria’s history.

Even though Daemon and Rhaenyra were uncle and niece, they both loved each other greatly and wanted to be husband and wife.
This was the best scene because it shows a Valyrian Wedding Ceremony. This was how the Valyrians wedded one another for thousands of years.
The way they have been building these two up… I STG Nettles better be a daughter like figure…
All it cost for these two to be together was 2 dead spouses or fathers of her children, one son going to the free cities and never returning, a family on the verge of extinction, a grieving mother and father who thinks both their kids are dead. Sounds like a GoT happy ending...
well, if Viserys ever listened to Daemon to wed her to him immediately, there won't be any bloodshed because no one's stoopid enough to challenge him. the purpose of Aegon's prophecy was Daemon and Rhaenyra's descendants. until these 2 joined their blood, the damage will keep going but now it's too late. now they gotta survive. if they both married earlier, Aemond would never born. because Aemond is the Greens wildcard.
Definitely the fault of Viserys. Every action against this match was pure spite. Daemon asked for her hand and he banished Daemon for it, then married her to someone who can't have kids. Creating this problem.

I really wanna know what happend later that only Dany's family was left! I may have missed out on this detail in GOT or they haven't mentionned it, but like where did they go, there are too many targarians to leave only the mad king and his kids
Also Rhaenyra's sons have black hair, obv their dad's DNA is stronger than the targarians, so their kids most probably will have dark haired kids, which means there are dark haired targarians, where did they go!?
It's coming this season. The dance of dragons wiped out all the targaryen line and dragons. Rhaenyra and Daemons 2 sons (aegon and viserys) carries on the family which eventually leads to Daenerys, Viserys, and Jon.
The Dance of the Dragons (The Targaryen Civil War), is what wipes out so many of the Targaryen line. It’s the war between the Blacks (Rhaenyra Targaryen’s supporters) and the Greens (supporters of Alicent Hightower and her children). Very bloody war. By the end of Dance, the Blacks win when Rhaenyra’s son Aegon lll gets installed on the throne. After that, Rhaenyra’s grandkids and also her youngest son Viserys ll also sit on the throne, and many generations later we have Dany and Jon as the two surviving Targaryens.
