I was watching this live on viva tv back in 2000. This is the sound of my young days. Pure bliss. With all the modern technology available nowadays he will never top what he did in 1998-2002 period.
I agree, his live sets back in those days might not have been technically perfect, but made much more sense and the musical selection was so much better. His sets were unique, as soon as you heard 5-10 minutes of a set, you knew right away if it was a PvD set or not.
I would posit that the technology affected every facet of dance music - both the production and the DJing of it. Back then the shiz was still organic, hard to describe with words.. I'd also point out that I used to see him play in Germany and stateside and he was already playing MUCH more watered down for US audiences vs his home country sets.. either way, so glad we have these videos and recordings.

Darude - Sandstorm 12:35 These tracks mixed in that order are effing timeless IMO; Dj Remy's Pumped Up sounds like it was just meant to be mixed into John Rees vs Helios' Beta Blocker.
I was addicted with this transition back in the 2000s.. Was 15 yrs old.. my old password was BeTaBlOcKeR haha... 24 years later.. & I am commenting on this incredible awesomness.. Pumped Up + BetaBlocker was one of the most iconic transitions PvD had ever created & that had lasted for over a year in his DJ sets.

It is far more important to understand what the preferences of the crowd are, their reactions to the music, the musical key your switching from and to. Anyone can create a perfect mix in their bedroom, but if they just copied it to a crowd, that crowd is far more likely to leave the floor. In fact, PvD doesn't even beatmatch into Sandstorm. Point proven.

These two sets have no slow parts, pure energy, pure trance with no mercy to those who cannot move anymore. Too sad, that trance as it was suppose to be is no longer here. Hopefully, while away from mainstream, it will be revived in couple of years.
