Older Eminem has a different SOUND and is harder to listen to in order to catch the bars. He's a lot more technical and clever now his rhyme schemes far more intricate. I've had to change the way I listen to him, before I was guilty of lazy listening and therefore missed all the sick wordplay and double entendres but now it's like I'm hearing him for the first time and I'm blown away by his sheer brilliance. So when I hear someone trash his later work I know it's cause they are still lazy listening and simply miss all the bars. WAKE UP!!!

Aww, well when you put it that way… Not to mention they were probably each other’s first real love since they got together when they were kids, and then had a baby together when they were still so young… They really did try to make it work, but they only had the skills of teenagers, with no good role models as you said… and as time went on there was probably just too much trauma and damage for them to fix. They were literally opening childhood wounds every time they tried. And you can tell he still feels so much for her - his first (and maybe only) real love, the mother of his child.
Back when this album first came out I always kept coming back to this song. My favorite thing that Em does is when he gets real and emotional in his music. He does that a lot on Revival and that’s why it’s one of my favorite albums.
Even if it takes a long time. Real talk. I think it did take him dying too or almost getting there. But he wholeheartedly apologized to his mom and Kim in songs, really good songs. He probably had a lot of guilt built up over time.

I think that punch back line is not him literally punching her, to me when she would do that his way of punching back was by going to the studio and write all those diss songs about her which he now realizes it wasn't right. I really love Revival to me it's a more mature side to Em the album was different but that's what I love about it. They said they witnessed many arguments and he was never physically violent with her. In fact, there's one story in particular where they were arguing on the tour bus and she slammed his head into a mirror causing it to cut him. He was bleeding and he never retaliated. They actually had to pull her off of him kicking and screaming and remove her from the bus. Also, I'm 100% certain that if em had ever actually hit her, she would've shouted that from the rooftops as loud as she could. I mean, she said on a radio show that he has a small dick so why wouldn't she talk about physical abuse if it existed? Of course, 2 other women refuted those claims she made in that interview though.

As a teenager and maybe early 20s I let my hot blooded Italian temper get the best of me and put hands on my then boyfriend (now husband) maybe five time in ten years and I'm not saying it was right. I look back and can can think I was safe because he wasn't going to lay hands on me. When tempers be flaring all rational thinking goes out the window, and if you can't take a step back for a split second things will quickly get out of control. But now that we've had kids and are in our 30s we've found how to talk to each other and what our buttons are. I would never want our kids to grow up in a dysfunctional home like that or think that's how disagreements are settled. I don't believe anyone should put hands on anyone but there was a time that I thought I could get away with more because I was safe knowing a man wouldn't hit back, he never did but I know how wrong that thought was. Coming from a relationship that I was hit prior it's how I learned to fight or agrue.. or disagree. We have come a long way in the 16 years we've been together and I'm thankful where we are in life.

You want kids having mommy and daddy but sometimes that relationship is not healthy. You gotta go separate ways and then not constantly be fighting iver the kids in front of the kids. When he says "why did I punch back..." I think he means it metaphorically, because according to many sources, he was never violent with her. One of his former bodyguards said that it was Kim who was the violent one. “I never saw him get physical with her,” Williams says. “But she was in his face. I saw her once point a finger, hitting him and pushing his head backwards. It was obvious things were headed for an end.”

I don't know Kim and Em's story 100% because the facts will always remain between the two of them, but based on what I've heard, Eminem was actually the abused in the relationship. When he says "why did I punch back..." I think he means it metaphorically, because according to many sources, he was never violent with her. One of his former bodyguards said that it was Kim who was the violent one. “I never saw him get physical with her,” Williams says. “But she was in his face. I saw her once point a finger, hitting him and pushing his head backwards. It was obvious things were headed for an end.”
That's what we know we don't know what went on behind closed doors we can't make big statement about them
