“Does she hit hard?” Ian Paice says: “She hits harder than I do - and makes less errors” (Burn). As others wrote, the drum set sometimes desintegrates 😀😀.

YoYo is a legend at 12 years old. I love her and so humble. She is already a top drummer in the world. And the power behind her is astounding for her age. her favorite drummer is John Bonham watch Deep Purple Burn, face melting. Or TO TO Rosana when she was 10 is amazing with the tempo.

Yoyo did a video at 8 or something just standing on one foot. It was absolutely Terrific! Did you see THAT one?
In the "Marvel World", there is a character that lives in a world of sounds called "Dare Devil"
Yoyoka once said she can learn whole songs very quickly just by listening a few times and can't yet read music. The Beatles never had to either.
      She's like a Mutant!

Heh heh heh. You have now witnessed first hand why an 11-year old Yoyoka Soma would be included in the Top 500 list of DrummerWorld. She's now 12 years old by the way. I have no doubt she'll become scarier as she grows older. Oh, incidentally, many have said that they believe her to be the reincarnation of John Bonham (and many of these statements were not said in jest). You can look for her Led Zeppelin covers (especially the later ones) and see for yourself how this came to be.
In fact, just go subscribe to her channel and see all her videos yourself. Hey, feel free to make reaction video out of them if you wish. Us Yoyoka fans won't be complaining. 😁

I concur, I search for reactions to yoyoka, it’s a shame that some of them don’t bother to take the time to read up on her accomplishments prior….I like reactions were it’s obvious that it’s the first time hearing the player, but due diligence is at least know some of the history, one reactor out their would cover her until he recorded the song and put it out there at the end of the reaction. Respect, and it earned him a visit from YoYo and family and an invitation to play live on stage for a few songs with her. Got to dig the humility on both sides….

In response to your comment about Yoyoka 'playing hard'. Wave Potter, a musician and YT reactor, had the pleasure of playing and jamming with her recently. IIRC he said she can hit very hard. (Yoyoka and her lovely family were visiting the USA. They arranged to visit him at home to play a cover together in his home studio. Then they jammed together on drums.)
Yoyoka started learning to play drums at 2yo. Her parents are musicians, and she was shown how to play drums by a drummer friend at 1½yo. She is self-taught with no lessons until she was 9yo (I assume the friendly drummer gave her some tips).
My _theory_ is while she was small a way she could get the sound she wanted was to accelerate the stick over a longer distance and be 'whippy'. An example of what I think I mean by _high-stick, whippy hit_ is *Can't Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers* (4m47s) ua-cam.com/video/spTYwali22g/v-deo.html She gets deep into the song and its groove 😄
I'd be interested to hear your take on that theory. I failed to learn to drum, so it's likely tosh.

This girl is something else. Already approved by Perl and K. Zildjian, and many famous musicians have reacted and commented on her skill. What's amazing is when she finds a song she likes. She listens to it, like 2-3 times (5-6 times if it's difficult) and then she can play it. What also surprises me is that she seems to be able to copy the drummers' playing style and actually sound like them. I'm not sure? Some say she plays without a click, others say she does? I shouldn't be a bit surprised if she doesn't because she seems to have a built-in metronome in her head. If this isn't amazing enough - look at her technical skill. Look where she's hitting the drums. Look at the area of the drums being worn. It's like a 2-inch area, max! And finally, the question of whether she hit her drums hard? Just look at her snare drum as she plays trough this song. It jumps around in the stand! Honestly she's something special. No limits. It seems like she can do anything and make it at an superb standard. It gonna be fun to see what this end up to in the future.

    • @andrewplumb6544

It's difficult to use a click with old rock classics. They were not recorded that way so move constantly. Rick Beato showed how John Bonham moved when he tried quantising a Zep number drum part. She feels this so well that she normally completely buries the drum part.

I have been watching her videos for several years now and she still blows my mind.
Her cover of "Burn" had Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice himself singing her praises.
If she were if fact making it look like she is playing harder than she really is through exaggerated movement yet still never miss a beat or loose the tempo then that alone would be impressive.
Great hand speed,, great at using her hands and feet independently when needed and she does not just go for the easier songs to play.

*Happy 2022.* I very much enjoyed your reaction. I am delighted you enjoyed Yoyoka's drum cover. I especially liked you sharing relevant experiences as a drummer. I failed to learn to drum decades ago, so I respect people who succeeded. Yoyoka's fans have commented plenty so I'll only add a few things:
    1. *Yoyoka does not upload 'duds'.* She sets herself very high standards.
    2. Before 9yo, her drumming was very good for her age. After 9yo she's very good for any age.
    3. Yoyoka videos are one take. Her 'solo'/'home studio' use fixed cameras with no cuts.
Her ethic is "What you see and hear is what you'd get live".
I've watched all her covers. Only one of over 80 covers has a single cut.
A Yoyoka 'trademark' is her stick waves before and after a song. Lots of her fans like to see that and wave back. It is the least we can do to show her the respect she earns every time she plays. I'm fine if you don't feel like doing that. 😀
    ----
Yoyoka has several playlists of her videos which might help you find songs to react, or listen, to.
*'Yoyoka Drum Cover / 叩いてみた動画'* playlist is mostly Yoyoka playing 'solo' in their 'home studio', eg. this 'Rainbow "Kill The King"' drum cover. Pick out bands or songs you like, and you'll probably enjoy it. I guess 'Deep Purple' is a good place to start.
    ua-cam.com/play/PLdRIgHiqkWWbf6r83PokACwV5gqIVv9vs.html
A few of *'Yoyoka Drum Cover...'* titles include *'with friends'.* These are remote collaborations during 'stay home'. Yoyoka is recoding in their 'home studio', and the friends are recording themselves playing at their location. The tracks are recorded separately, then the song is assembled by Yoyoka's dad, Akifumi from each audio and video track, to create the complete performance video.
_Edit: the _*_friends_*_ are internationally recognised adult musicians._
*'Yoyoka 12th Birthday Session'* playlist is based on, at least, 10 songs recorded in one day by Yoyoka, four musicians and three singers. They are together, playing 'live' in a studio. The video is cut together from several cameras, but the audio is one 'live' take. It was recorded and released before her 12th Birthday.
    Yoyoka's playlist is 'YOYOKA's 12th Birthday Session': ua-cam.com/play/PLdRIgHiqkWWahmjBhCmEMPWsK8rIFZZBc.html
It has two mistakes; Deep Purple 'Mistreated' is included twice, and Van Halen 'Jump' is missing. My playlist is more accurate ua-cam.com/play/PL8ELJOZTTeePTLoqGgzmqQKBK9OKDrcmo.html
_Edit: the four musicians and three singers are all famous Japanese musicians, some in legendary Japanese bands._
*'YOYOKA with Cross Roads Band'* playlist was recorded in the 'Cross Roads bar' in Sapporo. The bar was established in 1998, and is renowned for its live rock music. Yoyoka is playing a set with the house band, who are very good. This was 'live streamed' from the bar the weekend after her 12th birthday. Yoyoka's playlist is 'YOYOKA with Cross Roads Band' ua-cam.com/play/PLdRIgHiqkWWZSkljCDocBXXv854npbOQm.html
It has two mistakes, so mine is more accurate: ua-cam.com/play/PL8ELJOZTTeePTsu96B17Mf8tO1zQDtG7R.html
*Note:* When Yoyoka collaborates with other musicians she's very serious, professional and respectful. She serves the song and supports the band.
In her 'Solo'/'home studio' covers, like this 'Rainbow "Kill The King"' drum cover, she's playing songs she likes, is having fun, and is often exuberant, sometimes playful. She sometimes includes her 'bloopers', which are either funny or interesting. So the 'Solo' covers are more fun to watch, while the collaborations demonstrate how she feels the song should be played as part of a band.

I totally love the sentence in
      2. Yoyo's takes are only one take.... Like HUH? She's only 9 when this was recorded and spoken. Drummers with 2-3, even 4x her age don't always get it in one... 2 at the least I am sure some even up to 5-7 takes.

    • @gbulmer
      @gbulmer Рік тому

@@freddygonzalez8797 @Freddy Gonzalez I apologise for this long response, and I might have mislead you. I should have written "video is one continuous unedited take". *Many* UA-cam drummers construct their video performance by editing several takes together. Some are obvious because there are lots of cuts, and sometimes one camera angle should see the camera used for the next cut. But some are harder to detect. I was contrasting them with Yoyoka who uses multiple fixed cameras to show there are no edits.
In over 100 videos, I've only spotted one edit, and I was looking carefully. Otherwise the audio is always a single unedited continuous take even if the video is assembled from many cameras.
For example, she met with legendary Japanese musicians in a studio during Japan's "Stay Home" for one day. They rehearsed then recorded at least 9 songs. _YOYOKA's 12th Birthday Session_ ua-cam.com/play/PLdRIgHiqkWWahmjBhCmEMPWsK8rIFZZBc.html
Yoyoka learns by ear, and doesn't need many listens to get it, and add her own 'feel'. We don't know how many times Yoyoka played and recorded the whole song. We know Yoyoka doesn't need many takes. Partly because she answers questions about it in her live streams. Partly because she's met with other UA-cam musicians for collaborations, and some collaborations even had witnesses. Those folks report she was 'perfect' in the first and every take. Though she does adjust what and how she plays to best support the band or musician she's playing with, as well as adding her own 'magic'.
She's also made 'jam sessions' with other musicians where she reacts and improvises in response to them leading the song. She's also 'jammed' with very experienced drummers, they 'bounce' leading back and forth between them.
A fun video is _Onyx - Senri Kawaguchi Seven year old drummer ``Yoyoka''_ ua-cam.com/video/MkhGgqXywU8/v-deo.html which is in front of a live audience (she started playing for live audiences at 4yo). It's worth listening all the way to the end for the audience reaction.
There's a *LOT* more to say about her. However, it's helpful knowing she was added to Drummer World's "Top 500 Drummers List" at 11yo, and she got an 'Artist' visa to live and work in the USA IIRC at 12yo. She's there now.
      Best Wishes. ☮

Another doggo sited... White one and second one that looks like a chihuahua mix.
Some advice, before you start your reaction check out the location of the cams. Your watermark is covering the foot cam.
Did you read her bio on her page? Playing at 2 years old, live gigs by 5, writing her own songs by 6, respected by adult musicians in Japan by 7, won Hit Like a Girl (under 18) at 8 and if I remember correctly drummerworld put her in the 500 best drummers by age 10 (maybe it was 11). Already sponsored by Pearl, DW and more other things than I can mention.
Grasshopper (you are old enough to get the reference and obviously I am old enough to give it LOL) you have learned a very valuable lesson today.
No matter what you do, or how good you are at it, there is a little Japanese girl that can do it better.
Now let us embrace the truth. I would like to introduce you to Junna. She is a typhoon of energy, talent, skill and joy. As a wise drummer once said, if you are not dancing when playing, you are doing it wrong. Junna does it right. She is not as young as she looks. Junna combines playing the drums with cosplay. She was 22 when this was filmed and had been playing drums for 8 years. She was also in a band in Japan called Trident. So I would like to suggest Junna covering Through the Fire and Flames by Dragon Force.

Thanks for your comment. I did read her bio. Pretty impressive. About my watermark. I don't see it when I'm watching the video. It only shows on my recording but I'm watching the actual UA-cam video. I'm guessing most people watching my reactions have already watched the original video as well. If not I hope they go and watch it without my watermark.

Yoyoka is one of the shining lights keeping rock n roll at the forefront.
I first saw Cozy Powell when he was drumming for Bedlam. They opened for Black Sabbath at the Coliseum on the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath tour. Speaking of which, Bill Ward is another outstanding drummer. Great show with two powerhouse drummers. I can't wait to see Yoyoka out there touring with a great band. I would pay good money to see that.

The absolute take over of world drumming elites has now begun, in Japan. What explains so many young WORLD CLASS drummers? Besides Karen Carpenter & Shelia E., I don’t know other female drummers. Not saying there aren’t any, just that I am unaware of them, personally that is. So is this Tsunami of world class drummers related to the radiation-in-the-water from Fukushima? Hey, it’s a question that had to be answered! Before you get the answer, ya gotta ask the question! Rock on Yoyoka!

That's kind of her signature way at the beginning and end of each video. Youngest ever to be added to drummer World Top 500 OF ALL TIME... Has 5-6 (or more) endorsements already as well. Youngest ever for at least most of those as well. Read the profile on the SHOW MORE tab of any of her videos. It's about a page long and covers less than 1/3rd of her accomplishments. She is very humble and has said, she doesn't want people to notice her drumming, but notice the song. Uh, can't really help noticing her drumming!
