Man Utd legends share unheard 1999 Champions League Final stories | Football’s Greatest Eras

- Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes are here to take you inside one of the most dominant periods of English football. You can expect stories about the trophies, the rivalries, the hairdryer and their team-mates throughout the series as they get candid about their time at Manchester United.
Welcome to Football's Greatest Eras and where else to start but with the crowning glory for that team - the 1999 Champions League Final win over Bayern Munich.
Nicky and Paul take us from their flight out to Barcelona on Concorde to the celebrations in Manchester after. They discuss their contrasting emotions as Paul was suspended from the biggest game of his career and what they thought of Sir Alex Ferguson's starting eleven. We go down into the bowels of the Nou Camp as Nicky explains how he felt stood in the tunnel, separated from the Bayern players by a cage. Then, we're into the match itself, from the terrible start of losing a goal early - and who got the blame for that - to the manager's half-time team talk and, finally, to the unforgettable ending.
Along the way, they also recall when Mick Hucknall trained with them (and whether he could play), why Nicky thought he might be on his way out of the club that summer, and which United player was the first to leave the party after the final?

The '99 Champions League Final | FG: Eras with Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes
Where were YOU for the 1999 Champions League final? 🤔
12 years old, in my bedroom in Middleton, on a old high back wooden chair, jumped up, landed on the chair and it snapped and collapsed, dad went mad at me and sent me to bed 😂😂😂
@@Slabhead00 🤣🤣 Dictionary definition of scenes that
11 year old me in my room in Singapore at 5am with full plans to call in sick the next day and skip my Spanish exam 😂
In my living room with a pack of smarties and a lucozade. The ceiling ended up drinking more lucozade than me after i went crazy running around the house 😂One of the best nights of my life ❤
11years old, In my front room with my pals sobbing my eyes out as they abused me and next thing that united squad does what that united squad did and created magic that will live forever with every United fan..I still cry everytime I watch it, I’m crying right now thinking about it 😂 what a time to be alive 🙏
I think we Manchester United fans have been waiting for a podcast like this. 2 Legends of the Club. ❤
I'm a City fan and I agree.... 2 top class players....
Scholes was unbelievable....
This is outstanding. Just a couple of friends and teammates sitting down, having a chat.
When my dad was in a hospice in his last days he actually had the 99 champ league final on a video playing as he passed thanks for the memory's when football was proper
Sorry to hear that,I guess some people put hobbies before there own kids but I'm sure he was thinking of you and not ole Gunnar

This is an absolute joy! Can't thank you enough for these memories x

Bloody brilliant! So happy to see Butty and Scholesy together…will be one of my go to podcasts!
Nice to hear from Scholes as he never did interviews back in the day, so humble and don't to earth to
Thanks for the memories lads. 15 years old watching the final in my late grandparents home. I wouldn't swap that for anywhere else in the world.
Albert man marking the manager hahaha 😂😂😂❤
I could listen to these two for ever. Awesome podcast lads
Well done lads. Brings it all back.
Definitely needed this and more
Thanks lads!
Great stuff. Nothing will ever tip the 98-99 season again. Best time of my life.
Finally great players talking about great accomplishments
Amazing insight, thank you Guys
We had to go 1 nil down in the final ... That's when I knew we would win it.... All the comebacks that season it was incredible I remember every game... Thanks for the memories lads we love you guys....
You’ve got a great thing going. I like the dynamic between you both. Keep it up, please.
Laughed out loud at choccy almost killing sir Bobby. 😂
loved it. brought back so many memories, as I was also at the Nou Camp that night.
6am here in vietnam, getting ready for work was a bit slow listening to this. I'm a gorton lad like Butty and was about 14 when we won that. I was on deansgate up on a shop doorway roof and it was pandemonium. We were all pissed, people were just walking into off licenses and just helping themselves to beer. One of the best few days of my life, i was at the semi and the final in the cup and at old trafford for the tottenham game. Only one i missed was the trip to barca coz my dad wanted to go with his mates, we didnt see him for 4 days after. To this day i have no idea where he ended up, he won't say, he just showed up in the middle of the night with a scarf for me singing his head off.
A brilliant time to be a red
Imagine I’ve just jumped on UA-cam & the algorithm has suggested a new United podcast by 2 absolute legends of the club! Well done lads and all the best success with the podcast 😎🔴
2 great lads..
from one Gorton lad to another, super proud of you Nicky. And you're alright too Paul.
best couple of days of my life , deansgate was fkn carnage .
Loved it. Every second.
Scholesy is not a natural when it comes to speaking directly to the camera! Think it should have been Butt doing the whole intro + outro 😆
Best player I ever saw in a United shirt and simply the greatest prem player of all time. And the best all round passer of a ball I've ever seen! The most important player in our club's most successful era.
I remember him in his prime, when he played a more creative attacking playmaker role. Bergkamp-Zidane-Ronaldinho were *_NOT_* on his level! They may have been more " pleasing to the eye " but none of them could match Scholesy's genius, vision, efficiency, work-rate and consistency.
Scholes would very rarely give the ball away. Or fail to spot a teammates run. Always showed for the ball, no matter his position or who was marking him. Never shied away from a challenge, despite his diminutive figure. The ultimate team-player!
It's obvious looking back why Sir Bobby loved him! The way he passed and struck the ball was very Charlton-esque! If England ever had the sense to build the team around him and play to his strengths maybe we would've won something.
Cheers to the Ginger Prince 🍷 Oh and Nicky butt as well!
Great player ,but Zidane and Ronaldinho not on his level ?🤣🤣🤣 don't rember either of them being played out of position for their national team so others could play in their position
What a team we had that year! The combination of Yorke and Cole was unbelievable, don’t think I’ve ever seen 2 forwards have that level of understanding. When you watch clips of that era of team on UA-cam it’s hard to believe the quality of the players. Might be rose tinted specs but I don’t think the current generation of player (in any team) can compare.
I loved this first episode it was unbelievable telling stories from inside to the world I hop it’s a lot more inside
Loved the episode
wow top podcast lads please keep them coming!!!
U can tell scholesy loves butty he actually looks happy to chat and have a laugh with him

Butty thinking Bobby Charlton was dead when he got hit by a McClair volley🤣
The world needed this❤
Glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Will need subtitles... I think...
Hey guys huge fan. Nicky I used to live I'm Denton and I remember one evening a silver porsche crashing outside. 5 mins later a pug 206 gti turns up to pick....what looked like you up haha do you remember this? I'd say maybe 97/98???
I was my father in law and mother in law in the pub 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
The new thumbnails seem to have had an impact on views, and I think it’s due to it not actually looking like someone will be talking on the podcast. Definitely needs changing.
Keane giving Mick Hucknall a b0ll0cking🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭
During the war! 👨🏼🦳
Hopefully this stops The Overlap from having too many ex Man Yoo players on and gwt other guests on.
This looks good and is the right place for that type of content and let Gary do his thing.
How about if you dont like the overlap dont watch it. Tit
Untied brings the views in, it's not rocket science why they are so popular and prevalent.
Also what is "Man Yoo"????
Give your head a wobble kid.
I went to primary school with Mick Hucknall we had a trial for Manchester boys I got picked and he didn’t he was crying.
Can Manchester Utd score? they always score
hey Nicky i believe you had a shot on either the 84th or the 86th minute it was on target but Khan held it tight and that's when i lost hope in the game
my bad it went across the goal
Rodriguez Daniel Robinson Eric Jackson George
How can they not remember it properly?? I can remember nights out ffs! Really shows how dim they are and how they really are just told what to think and do
Thanks for the memories
