Man, ported or stock those saws scream. I'd love to have a new stihl that size to replace my old 038, but I don't cut enough to justify the expense. It's amazing how much power those larger stihls produce. Really nice saws.
Nicely done test. Takeaway point = I *NEED* a 661, regardless of porting. Makes my 372 look like a limbing saw. The 661 would definitely be a timesaver.
How extremely were the two port jobs? Of course ported saws can be plenty reliable, but both these saws perform very well. Standard “woods port” or more? Would these particular saws be ok bucking big wheels off tank after tank? Not a criticism, just Curios as to how hard these saws are ported.
He took TEN SECONDS off of stock. Whatever the cost of porting, you're going to make it up in time, especially bucking. Anyone have input on how long ported saws last vs. stock? How much time between rebuild?
Idk about rebuild time but from what I’ve seen it all depends on how well you take care of them I’ve worked with cutter that blow up stock saws in a year and ones that have had ported saws last years
Egan's are junk they blow the exhaust on the case bolt for your dog and It loosens the bolt. Get a westcoast saw barkbox they are the original design and has a baffle it blows exhaust up not just out.
Maycon Flores Used-wise you're going to find them out west. Otherwise just special order it from your Stihl dealer. Pretty sure they only offer wrap handles for the Pro saws tho
Redbull661 .... what am I receiving for $300 ? I’m assuming muffler/mod ; decking ; modded combustion chamber ; timing advance and port work ... did I get that right or anything else to add ?
Yeah, the stock saw isn’t doing it. You shouldn’t keep something like that. I’m in a generous mood so just ship the saw to me and I’ll take it off your hands lol. 😉.

Kinda unfair on the stock saw, you weren't pushing down on it. You can tell by your forearm and the fact that the ported saws slammed on the ground after you cut through. I'll still agree that a ported saw is faster.
I cant understand why you would port a chainsaw. Both Stihl and Husqvarna want their saws to be the top performer, on this we would all have to agree. They have, I'm sure, very intelligent engineers designing their saws. If porting a saw made it better wouldn't they come from the factory ported? When they design a saw I would imagine they are balancing saw life with performance and possibly some form of emissions controls. Porting a saw, in my mind, would have to decrease the life of the saw. I cant help but believe that the real reason you would port a saw is to tell your buddy you have ported saw that cuts really fast. Am I wrong?
Yes you are wrong. Engineers design the saws to produce the most power while meeting emissions standards. Saws like these come choked up from the factory and are down at least 20% in power from what they can make ported. Porting is simply the process of opening up the airways in the head, freeing up the muffler for less restriction, and turning up the fuel to allow the saw the breathe better and make the most power it can. You can also do a piston upgrade and play around with compression but then you are looking at having to use different fuels with a higher octane. You can take any stock saw and make it a monster if you help it breathe better
I need my 066 ‘Tree Monkey’ ported boi. Where do I get that done?

nothing wrong with an 038. great little saws
I just got one for 400 and put210 into it nd now I have a great 661c.
Good saws those old 038s
It's hard to explain the difference between a stock 661 and a ported 661. It's like a completely different saw? An angry saw!! Treemonkey is the best.
a 038 is a great saw but once you work with a 660/661 etc. it makes the 038 feel like a toy.
Hello man,
Looks verry good👌👍
Where can I find these items to boost the Stihl 461 661 and 880?

I run VP U4.4 racing fuel (105 octane) and it gives you more power without doing any mods at all. Smells good to!
interesting
Try MS109 its not leaded and it is oxygenated highly so need to richen it up quite a bit but yeah😎👍

why doesnt stihl port their saws for more power
