This video really convinced me I could do this myself in 10 minutes. Thanks!!!Threw away the 5 page instructions printed out. Got a T20 bit and paid $200 for the mirror from local SoCal Dealer and accomplished this on my wife’s 2023 RAV4 XLE gas. Simple unscrew and slide the mirror off to the left. Then a couple of tries putting the new mirror into the right position to slide to the right and screw in. Programming it to my Liftmaster Garage was also very easy. Instructions in the box were clear. Keep in mind this mirror is powered by an approximately 10 year non serviceable battery according to the manual. There are absolutely no other frills to this mirror so don’t expect more than a mirror that opens your garage door. Enjoy.
Thank you, I was able to install the mirror on my Highlander '22 without the need to take off the plastic cover. I just had to tilt the anchor a little bit to get it out and put the new mirror back in the same way.
Installed this on my 2024 RAV4 Premium XLE Hybrid. The dealer told me ~ $400 to replace the installed standard mirror. I found the Homelink mirror online for about $115 and used these steps to replace the standard mirror in less than 5 minutes. One suggestion: Program the mirror before installing, just to make sure it works the way you expect.
Did this install today. The shortcut method didn't work on my 2020 Corolla. Had to take off the plastic surround. You were right about the fragile plastic. Definitely have to take your time and be patient.
Awesome! I am going to put this mirror on my 2021 Prius LE when the mirror arrives at the dealer tomorrow! I was worried about removing the plastic housing and love that I can maybe change it without taking the housing off! Thanks!
I just replaced the mirror on my 2021 Rav4. A few points: 1. You cannot unscrew the mirror and slide it out without removing the covers. 2. The entire outer cover will pop off if you slide it forward. But it will be trapped onto the mirror. 3. The inner cover is a real handful. You either need a special tool or you need to remove the outer cover and depress the inner cover retention tabs from the inside. This is what I did. Here's a process that will work: 1. Loosen the torx screw a few turns until the mirror will slide around. 2. Slide the outer cover forward till it pops off. It will be dangling from the mirror. 3. Slide the mirror to the rear and the whole assembly will come off, housing trapped on the mirror. 4. Depress the tabs and remove the inner cover to separate housing from mirror. 5. Install new mirror. 6. Slide the outer housing on (to the rear) 7. Slide the inner housing on (forward) If you knew all this to start with it would take you all of 5 minutes.
Great info. Sounds like the '21 is *just* different enough to require the cover removal. That whole cover assembly is so fragile feeling and the replacement process is needlessly finicky. Great job and thanks for sharing and watching.
@@pb3030 That would explain it. As an aside, I sure wish the power to the transmitter were integrated with the car. If you park the car outside and someone breaks in, they have free access to your garage door.
Hey thanks so much for this video! Just ordered one of these mirrors for my 2021 Corolla Hatchback which my Toyota parts department confirmed fitment on. Glad I don’t have to risk breaking any plastic.
Very cool. I just got a 2023 Rav4 Hybrid SE trim package. I does not come standard with the Frameless Homelink mirror. Do you know if this process you just did for your 2020 Rav4 is the same for the 2023 Rav4 Hybrid? I believe that the part number is still the same. Thanks in advance.
Hi! While I can't guarantee the process is identical, if the same part number applies to that version I'd have to think the steps were largely the same! Thanks for watching!
The female mount on the mirror is wider than the opening in the round black plastic cover mounted to the windshield. You may get lucky and force it out without breaking the cover .. or maybe not. Your chances of success are 100% if you take a moment to remove the cover before removing the installation screw on the existing mirror.
I was hoping for a video to change the battery in case one of my customers asks. I don't see any obvious removable cover. It's lithium and supposed to last a long time but it's not forever.
The battery is a sealed, and supposedly non-replaceable unit designed to last ten years. Be sure I'd try to open it up myself if it dies before then!!!
thanks for the video, I have a RAV-4, 2019gv, I have the same mirror, only the battery icon is crossed out on the top right, as I understand it, the camera is not connected, how to connect it, thanks, I'm waiting for an answer.
Sounds like you actually have a different mirror. The Homelink mirror I installed in this video doesn't have a camera or any separate connections. I wish I could help more!😥
Yes both versions have a battery but the Toyota Homelink has no additional connections and no camera. The battery in the Toyota Homelink is a "sealed", supposedly permanent, 10-year battery.
I like the installation but the but you said that this is an auto dimming mirror which I see a lever on this so is it really or is it a manual dimming mirror .
Gary, I regret that I erred in saying it was auto-dimming. It isn't. I made an incorrect inference about the dimming when I first looked at the mirror and thought the lever adjusted something else. Thanks for watching!
The new mirror seems to have a manual tilt tab on it but you mention that its auto dimming. What is that tab for? Oh and I assume since there was no wiring connection that there must be batteries to replace.
Hi! The unit has batteries that are supposed to last ten-plus years. I was curious about the tab as well, because we've not had to adjust it at all in evening driving. I think it is perhaps a "gross" dim adjustment in case the autodimming isn't to your liking. Thanks so much for watching!!
I may have to correct myself, Jeffrey. I thought it was auto-dimming, and it sure seems to *behave* as though it autodims, but the specs I looked up for indicate it isn't. Thanks for asking!

They install exactly this same mirror. It was the exact same item number and even the same price when I compared it to the cost when added as an option to the car (MSRP) or purchased from a local parts department. Thanks for watching!
I don't know for sure, but my instinct is that it will *not* because the RAV4 underwent a big redesign for the 2019 model year, onto Toyota's uniform architecture platform. So I suspect it would not fit. That's a best guess only. Thanks for watching!
No, it is entirely self-contained with a ten-year battery. No connection to the vehicle wiring at all. In that vein, it's a little risky if you park it outside, because it really amounts to an always-operable garage remote if someone were to break into it. I would prefer a vehicle power interconnect of some sort.
