  • Hay on Wye, known for its literary festival, is a town that lies mostly in Wales but where you could, technically, have one foot in one country and one in another. It is very much a book-lovers paradise with countless bookshops stocked with treasures that would be hard to find almost anywhere else.
It was fairly quiet on this day, toward the end of May during the festival, it shall probably attract visitors of about 80,000. But on this chilly afternoon, only a few people were visiting these streets.
It's not a large town by any means but it has its own castle and more nightlife than one might normally expect in a town this size. But, mostly, it is just a rural town lying on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. A very fine place to spend a lazy day, rummaging around book and antique shops, enjoying coffee and ice cream, or simply wandering around and enjoying the easy-going ambience.

Hay on Wye being called the "The World's First Book Town", looks like a very interesting place to visit. It looks like you could spend days browsing through bookstores, search for those lost treasures. The view from the Castle looks very nice. I love the old stone walls that surround many of the streets. Thank you for another wonderful tour. Wales is a beautiful place.

I heartily recommend it (though perhaps not while the festival is on as it might feel a bit... crowded). Wales is a beautiful country to visit, quite distinct from England (although there are many points of similarity). It's always amazing to me to listen to Welsh being spoken and trying to find some few words that I might recognise. It's quite a musical language and it's a cliché to say this but Wales is famous for its singers and, of course, its actors whose English is incredibly precise and pleasant to the ear.

@@jagoturner I can only imagine how busy Hay on Wye would be during the festival. The Welsh language is very different. During Queen Elizabeth's funeral services, we listened some services in Welsh. I appreciate your tours. They are very educational.
