Totnes is a former Saxon settlement on the River Dart, Devon, 22 miles (35 km) south southwest of the city of Exeter. (we have an Exeter city walk on our channel).
The steep and narrow Fore Street takes in the Eastgate arch and many of the town's historic buildings. Totnes is said to have more listed buildings per head than any other town in Britain.
Totnes is known for its New Age community and is known as a place where you can live a bohemian lifestyle.
Totnes was the first town in the UK to introduce its own local currency in 2007
It was known as the Totnes Pound. It's aim was to support local businesses.
Today Totnes outdoor market is held on Fridays and Saturdays.
Totnes railway station is situated on the Exeter to Plymouth line and has trains direct to London Paddington.
Totnes castle is one of the best preserved in Devon, It's managed by English Heritage and is a short walk from the town centre.
Totnes is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
I did an Internship there about ten years ago in cooperation with the Totnes language school and I'm not shy to say that watching this brought tears to my eyes. It's just so great to see all these familiar places again, much has changed but some of the stores I could still recognise.
I really miss that town and my guest family. I hope that I can visit Totnes again someday in the future!^^

Big like! Returning viewer here!
Thanks fellow walker, I'll pop by to your channel later to see what's new. All the best to you.
You surprise me every time. Totnes Devon is about the same population as Sandpoint, Idaho USA. However, a lot more shops and beautiful architecture. Interesting that they established their own currency in 2007. Do they still have it, did it work out?
Wonderful outside market. Thank you for another wonderful video. Hurley Dean, Sandpoint, Idaho USA.
Good morning to you HD, yes it was interesting that they established their own currency isn't it. It was in circulation from March 2007 to June 2019, when it was discontinued due mainly to the increasingly cashless economy.
Curious to hear it is about the same population as Sandpoint. We're learning a little bit each week about each others world, we welcome that!
I’m gonna go to Totnes sometime as I live in Paignton as I’m only a bus ride away.
Hope you enjoy your day Phillip.

Pleased you enjoyed it RÔÔTE 4K
I would like to move there ❤
Hope it happens for you Jibreel!
This is great thanks. I always wanted to go to Totnes when Ilived in Somerset but never made it.its bigger than I thought. We can hear the seagulls so I wonder where the shops are in proximity to the sea...assuming thats it at the end. Lovely to see so many dogs about town too 😀
Hi there KG, The closest beach as the crow flies to Totnes is Goodrington South Sands which is in Paignton, 3.23 miles from Totnes but I think the seagulls are quite happy to hang around Totness even though it's a little far from the sea!
Been there many times, my family are from that area..over 200 years..
It's a lovely liveable town I'd imagine Barry, we certainly enjoyed our visit. All the best to you.
I saw an awful vehicle accident there....Luckily someone pushed through from the back of the crowd who was an aromatherapist. He also offered everyone some of his knitted condoms at 3 for a tenner! Amazing that someone so spaced out could have such presence of mind.
Ha ha Walkabout, quite so!! Such presence of mind is commendable!
🚶✌️👍✋Extra Good job 👌🤝
Wow. Great view, I love to see new places 👍
Great movie 👍 Bravo 👋
And I have a new movie from a walk around the city 😊
Yours sincerely, DJ Janusz from Warsaw Poland ✌️ 🇵🇱✋
All the best to you Nazir, greetings back from the UK.
Amazing quality. What device are you using for filiming?
Good morning Mitsu, we're using the DJI pocket 2 and are quite pleased with it, especially in low light. Thanks for dropping by.
@@LivingWalks Thank you for replying this. (It is 10pm in Australia) I'm DJI pocket 2 user as well, but cannot film good videos like yours! Looking forward to watching your next video.
@@mitsuvlog2021 Ah you must be nearly ready for bed Mitsu! So you us the DJI too, Best of luck with it, it takes a bit of getting used to doesn't it. We especially find the small viewing screen a bit of a challenge. Thanks for connecting, hope to stay in touch.
Very fantastic please haigh Santander Arya
Pleased you enjoyed it friend!
We live 2 minutes walk away from the shops. Looking to see if we see anyone we know or us lol
Oh you may even see yourself then Laura, hope you feel we've done your lovely town justice?
@@LivingWalks you did a perfect job. X
@@Laura...... Pleased to know that Laura, happy christmas to you.
My daughter and I are looking at moving to Totnes. This video is lovely. Is it a nice place to live for a single mom with 8 year old? We are emigrating from South Africa.
Glory Glory DEVON CITY FC.😅
Indeed!
you smell Totnes before you see it
Ha ha is that so Harry?
getting smelly crusty hippy vibes xD
Ha ha, well that's one way of putting it BaehrGaming!
I'm sorry. I don't trust low buildings.
😉
Yuck not one flower box or window boxes let alone trees like meaditeranian villages & towns ....shame on England stoic sparseness .
Mediteranian villages & towns do often have the edge don't they but I have to say, and it's a wonderful thing agreed. I do rather like the spirit and uniqueness of Totnes anyway. All the best to you.
Totnes is really weird just like the people who live there. I used to work at the police station and even the police are weird. Being in Totnes is like being inside some deranged person's daymare where logic and rational thought has no purchase. The place is twinned with Narnia and while it's amusing to visit and see the antics of the locals occasionally, it isn't wise to visit too often for the sake of your sanity. They're all barmy.
Interesting to hear your personal take on Totnes John, I guess I've met a few rather odd 'logical' folk too! All the best to you.
