    You’re right! She is holding back here! Check out her English version of this song! It’s called “I Don’t Know” and it’s off her Falling Into You album! Her vowels are so much more open on the English version! But you have to listen to it the right way. You have to be in a black, dark room, with the light of a single candle illuminating you and blare it with a great surround-sound system. . It’s worth the set up. Her voice will engulf you. It will shake your soul. This woman knows no bounds

      completely agree.. she absolutely as he says bodied the English version of this.. yes, this version is good, very good, but that.. its probably one of my favorites off that album if not of her entire repertoire

      If I recall correctly, JJ Goldman didn't want Celine to blow off the roof every time she sang. He wanted to bring a little more sweetness to her voice as if she had a baby in her arms. That's what he wanted on the D'eux album.

    • @GilbertGTV
      @GilbertGTV Рік тому +1

      @Wild&Blue I didn't say it was better so much as I was stressing that she soars more vocally in it. Its a matter of preference. Both songs are exquisite.

    That’s how she sings J J Goldman. :) In one of her interviews she mentions how you should sing Goldman and not some other ways. And of course she gives a short snapshot of how she’d do it if it weren’t a Goldman song. That was gold.

    Yeah, J.-J. Goldman asked her to "de-sing". He wanted her instrument to be used way different that it was shown in her English repertoire like her explosive belts and never-ending notes (many could agree that Celine was born with 2 extra lungs 😁😎). Celine did what he asked for and they created together 3 albums. The first one is D'eux from 1995 which until today remains the bestselling French-language record of all times! 🔥🔥🔥The 2nd album is entitled "S'il suffisait d'aimer" was released in 1998 and it's the 2nd best-selling French album of all times! Can you believe that?! 🤯🔥🤯🔥🤯🔥 The 3rd one is called "Une fille et 4 types" and had its premiere in 2003. This time Celine worked with Jean-Jaques and 3 other writers, composers, producers (Jacques Veneruso, Erick Benzi and Gildas Arzel), yet it was Goldman who was in a way a "godfather" of that concept album, where Celine showed her totally different side by singing something totally different touching pop (well...🤷‍♂️😎), rock, folk and country even). Celine and Jean-Jaques Goldman made HISTORY together! 💪🫶

    Yes she performed this song in France and here people are mostly into story telling and emotions. They are not so touched/impressed by belting and ad-libs. some of us even hate that. Jean Jacques Goldman, the author of this song, taught her to be less "American" in her singing for the french audience and it was the best success in French music history ever

  • @fashionblank
    @fashionblank Рік тому +5

    I get what you mean. I wouldn't call it "holding back" since this is how the official track sounds. She just sang it the way she did in the recording. We all want that power though :D In the English version of the song "I don't know" she did what you wanted to hear.

  • @sketchley80

    Agreed with others. When she sings in her native French there's a subtle beauty (not the powerhouse of big voices in English) just a different style! We love her for all of it! ❤

    if I'm not mistaken, in a few songs, J-J" Goldman, a singer, writer, producer wanted her to hold back. He collaborated with her for at least 2 but maybe 3 French albums. He wrote 'Vole' (Fly) for her, with that song she also held back a lot.

    It’s important to remember Céline’s French music is more in the nouvelle chanson genre of music. So it’s more rare for her to belt in French, like she does English. French music isn’t really about belting like English music is. They like story tellers more than belters.

    • @TheMisterTruth
      @TheMisterTruth Рік тому +1

      She does belt in French too but French vowels are not the same and belting a U sound like she does here is much harder as it is a close vowel...

    You must know that when she worked with this famous friends composer, Jean-Jacques Goldman, they wanted to show a softer side of her voice in a less American style with super loud beltings and resonances. Instead it puts emphasis on the text, the emotion, it showed a more refined side of her craft and a new audience fell in love with her.

    the lyrics are not suitable for going bigger, because the last phrase basically means I don't know (je sais pas), she goes powerful when she is mentioning everything unimaginable she can actually imagine happening, but life without you I don't know, there she is so unsure that's why she is holding back, I think the way she sang fits the emotion of the lyrics and can't be done any other way.
