It's a beauty. I used to drive my uncle's 74 Grand Marquis one big boat, which was very thirsty. But it moved. I'm sure those old enough to remember Jack Lord in the original Hawaii 5 - 0 drove around in the Grand Marquis.
Loved these big girls since i was a baby. My Grandparents had a 77 Marquis that was DooDoo brown with with matching 1/4 rag top. I remember Gramps would always change his oil every 300 miles(Yes 300) and afterwards he would take her out for a spin and i do mean spin cause he would just slam his big old size 14s down and "Tootsie Roll" would scream,squeal the one wheel with smoke pouring out the wheel well and Gramps would have the biggest smile on his face.
Luxury has different standards today because these barges floated over every bump,pothole,railroad track with no effort at all.
She's a classic. She is a beauty.

The button on the fender well is the seatbelt/starter bypass. If by chance you have a seatbelt malfunction you depress the button and the starter will engage. Under normal conditions, if sitting in the driver’s seat, the starter will not engage until your seatbelt is on. Nice Mercury, I have a 1974 Lincoln Town Car with 2,300 ORIGINAL miles. And you are absolutely correct, you have the rare factory alarm option.
At 41:27 he starts it fine without the seatbelt on. Maybe because he was not sitting in the seat? There is a sensor in the seat back in 1975?
1975 was the year of the mandatory seat belt ignition interlock safety system. You had to have the seat belt buckled in the front or the car would not start. This was a federal requirement and one of the few times the general public rebelled so strongly against the regulation was rolled back fairly quickly. These were quickly disabled in the cars produced that had them installed. The systems were still in installed in all the cars like this one. Just deactivated. That button in the engine compartment is part of that system. The manufactures quickly released disabling kits or service bulletins on how to defeat these systems after the regulation was rolled back.
An ingenious defeat I saw at the time was a couple who did not like seat belts just trimmed a couple of old credit cards to fit in the seat belt buckles and just quickly slid them up and down in the belt latches prior to turning the key. That quirky little hack worked like a charm. They had their system deactivated literally 2 days after the regulation was rolled back. They left those credit cards in the latch for as long as they owned that car.

What a beautiful car, even before detailing! FYI, the Grand Marquis was the highest trim level. And you're correct, this particular car has the wide side molding delete option, which meant the exterior was trimmed at the Brougham level. This car also has the vinyl insert bodyside molding, a separate option. One of the unusual things about this car is the white leather interior, which was only available in '75 (GM only, of course). The quarter windows became fixed midway through the '75 model year. The wheel covers were optional -- my '73 Brougham sedan has them and I love them too. The rear trim panel that is dark red on this car shows something rather unique -- it was typically color-keyed to the vinyl roof, except when the vinyl top was white, in which case it was color-keyed to the interior.

What a beauty!!! When I was in high school we got a new 75 Colony Park wagon & it was like having a Lincoln station wagon, very comfortable!!! Yours is the top of the line with the fancy wheels covers!! You have a real gem there Bob!! 👍👍
My parents purchased a 1976 Grand Marquis Colony Park LS wagon that was owned by the U.S. Secret Service. The car had bullet proof glass, 3 gas tanks and was equipped with a 460 -4 barrel engine.
The best looking Marquis's were 1969 thru 1971 in my opinion. Fuel efficient they were not but what a ride.
And that is not a Grand Marquis Brougham. The model line up for 1975 was the Grand Marquis, Marquis Brougham and the Marquis.
The small round disk in the glove compartment is a code for a locksmith to make extra keys in case you lose the originals.
I had 94 GM.Nothing drove and road like a Mercery.
My uncle had that same wagon. So smooth, quiet, full of effortless torque. Though I was more into muscle cars at 16, I realized just how impressive that car was.

I've got an 84 Sedan Deville in the same condition. She doesn't leave the garage often. Also, an 85 Eldorado with 27k and drives like a dream. Paint is original so she is a driver. Everyday. Enjoy it.
I grew up driving big cars, they were so cool, 1966 caddy coupe DeVille, 1975 caddy, but my favorite big car was a 1983 Buick 225 Electra park Ave, what a car, heavy, smooth as silk, pillow interior if you wanted to "rest" in the backseat.
That Buick you speak of was indeed special. I knew a family had one in triple navy blue and it was SPECTACULAR. I swear it had Cadillac beat. Such a beautiful car. Velour interior for days.

I got my grandpas 77 Ltd Landau with a 460. That was a jet. It had every option. We had a 75 colony park. Same thing. Its the torque!

I love cars/car designs. I have zero connection to this car. And even thought an hr would have been a long video. But it passed so quickly. To truly admire the details is cool to hear. Nobody around me really cares to hear when I talk about cars to them like this. This was nice to hear and relate to as far as admiration for its condition. When its a passionate you feel it and I could feel yours. Great job!

Very nice. Almost traded my 70 mercury Monterey in for one of these but it was sold. Ended up with a 74 Grand Prix SJ with the 455. These Mercury's had an awesome ride. Glad I got the SJ it was a very fast car!
Couldn’t agree with you more on the GP. When I start driving my Dad had a 73’ GP and he threw me the keys every time I asked for it. To this day it’s my favorite car ever and I owned Caddie’s, Oldsmobile, Mercury, Vette, even Jaguar but that GP is my favorite.
I had a '74 that was almost identical to yours.
Mine had a brown interior and hard vinyl roof.
You got the nice upolstered headlight covers with the emblems & the two door I always wanted, mine was a Marquis Brougham & yes a garage find.
I got it for $800 Canadian.

John Candy drove one of these in “Uncle Buck”,but his was badly beat. It had no shocks and blew huge clouds of smoke.
With the 460 the car goes one way while the gas gauge can be seen moving to E in real time. However it’s a beauty!!
My parents bought a new Colony Park wagon with the 460 in 1976. I got my license in '79 so this was the car I learned to drive in. We calculated 8 miles to the gallon around town and learned that if it didn't have at least 2 gallons in the tank, it wouldn't start. I used to show my friends that when you stomped the throttle you could watch the gas gauge needle move to the left while the ribbon speedometer needle moved to the right.
@@kevinrowley2579 yes you can see the gas gauge move in the opposite direction, I recall that because I had never seen that before and that was decades ago. 8mpg was driving it softly.
A friend of mine's Mom had the 4 door version of this car, white with light blue interior. It was a purdy car with a very floaty ride. Used to joke with him that he'd have to call the Coast Guard (we were outside Boston) each time he took her car out. LOL A definite museum piece for sure.

From before my birth until 1974, our family car was a Chrysler Imperial Crown. Then from 1974- 1985 was a 1972 Mercury Marquis Brougham. That was for me, 2nd grade to HS graduation. Mom had a couple of Cadillacs after that. A Coup DeVille and another Caddy that I can’t remember the model, but it was a silver four door.
Bob...I think that MGM has found it's dream owner for life. I enjoyed watching how much passion you have for automobiles and the emotion welling up in your voice when you were talking about your mom and her Mercury back in the day. When I was a teen we had a pale yellow 1976 Mercury Marquis base model. It was plain...but everyone loved to ride in it because of the spacious interior and those front twin comfort lounge split bench seats. Ours had no clock, am radio, manual heater/ac controls, window cranks and cruise control. It had the 400ci 2V engine and performed reasonably well. A little tip on painting the plastic armrest panel on door and the trim along interior C-pillar around the rear side window. The piece of trim over the door windows that retained original white is metal. That is correct. I'm pretty sure they still used metal on that w/matching paint. The other piece on C-pillar and the door are indeed made of plastic and as with everything else as it ages it turns. Lol. I would seal the painted plastic trim pieces with a light coat of clear matte sealant to keep paint from flaking or being scratched. And by the way, you are correct about the rear windows not coming down on any other model year Marquis. Ours were fixed in position. Buy really loved that car. But your white beauty is a unicorn with full vinyl roof in such a good shape and all the chrome and stainless steel trim. I wish you many pleasurable trips in this land yacht and have a feeling once nick are buffed out and polished and waxed with new tires....It will find a place in YOUR garage. You are traveling in style when you ride in a fine automobile like that one. I see many old Mark IV's, V's, and late 70's Tbirds on the road these days ....but not many big Mercs. And it seems when I see these aforementioned cars they are in terrible condition w/a thick dense cloud of smoke surrounding them. But most of the Grand Marquis seem to be in almost pristine condition. They were, are, and forever will be my favorite model of the Grand Marquis lineup. @@euroasianbob9268 I just watched your OP of the walk-thru and drive along of this car for the second time. And you were right, the car was really quiet. And surprisingly so. Even if stored in climate controlled storage you would think the dual exhaust system would have sprung a few leaks being 42 yrs old. I know I did when I hit 50. Lol. My family's Marquis that I drove as a teen had a tilt steering column. And I remember, as I'm watching your video, that Ford integrated the tilt steering control lever in those days with the turning signal lever. GM at the time had a smaller separate stalk farther down the column for adjusting the tilt wheel. Ahhh.....good times. Should you decide to keep this dreamboat and want to listen to some classic tunes and your FM is fading in/out.....I will send you my Carpenters Greatest Hits 8-Track cassette or Gordon Lightfoot 8-Track cassette. Oh I remember the day Elvis died and how it felt , I was in my class room and most all of us felt it really and they let school out about an hour later. It was like world stopped for a moment .
Cars beautiful Mercury Grand Marquis. That's a rare find to find one in mint condition with low mile's like that.
Very nice car,, don't forget the door striker post bushings so those doors close properly and stay quiet...
Garage find. A really, really big garage. That car affected the tides in local bodies of water. It was the Big Gulp of cars and had it's own zipcode. Under turning radius, the owners manual said, "See Montana".
It's a gorgeous survivor / time capsule.

My parents drove Lincolns back then, but I actually thought these were prettier, especially in the two tone colors that were offered. Lifelong enthusiast, I owned all the panther cars in the 80s , Crown Victoria, Town Car and Grand Marquis; they were all wonderful cars.
Other than brand snobbery, I always saw the Marquis line as being essentially the same as the Lincolns, and therefore a much better value for the money.

I always thought it was odd that with these white interior cars Ford didn’t put the color keyed carpet on the lower door panels. All the other interior colors had carpet. Brown, green, blue, red, black etc. but white interiors just has white vinyl on the lower door panels. Still a GORGEOUS CAR! I loved these as a kid in the 70s

Yes there is PDR on bumpers. It is just done by an actual bumper guy. I have one in Iowa that has done trucks and all types of stuff.
0000 steel wool or SOS pad on the chrome bumpers. Never dull can get the skinny trim without hurting paint.

I remember in the 70's and my dad working the oil fields in Texas and him and all his buddies would buy these boat anchors cars like here used/cheap back then and due to the long wheelbase and cushy suspension they were ideal for the long gravel roads that took him to his job sites. He probably drove 200-300 miles on gravel roads a week. A lot of guys even drove station wagons due to the long wheel base and swore by them. Trucks were the worst because of the stiff suspension and light rear end.

These cars don't look great at all in a 4 door.... but in a coupe they are BEAUTIFUL! This car is a gem and I hope it finds it's home with you. Maybe I will see you cruising around Wichita sometime :)

If you haven't tried anything on that yellowed trim, look into the retrobright process, it works pretty well.
And white plastic is notorious for yellowing with age. I hate when that happens.

If nobody has said anything.... that lever next to the passenger power seat switches is a very rare reclining seat option. Not a lot of cars had it and owners never notice it. Great car! Rare Classic Cars here on UA-cam may want that one to go with all his other mid 70's Marquis'. The original water pump would be Ford blue. That one has been changed. Please don't throw any of the old parts away, they may be worth something to the next owner.
The water pumps were indeed installed on the engines when they were painted, however the paint on the water pumps never held up well and are typically rusty on almost every low mileage, surviving FoMoCo product I have ever seen or owned. It is by no means an indicator of the water pump having been replaced. Check the casting date on the water pump if you really want to determine that.

I recessed the bumpers in 3 inches.installed large rectangular composite headlights behind the headlight doors.led interior light bulbs. Drop the exhaust and cleaned out the cats.
Car ins from Minnesota so it has some underside rust but nothing bad.
The 460 used 38000 miles and I've been debating on converting it to diesel. The MPG is so bad and the nonethanol is so expensive.its parked for many years now.
The grille I replaced the plastic vanes with genuine rolls royce vanes and fitted a Rolls-Royce spirit of ecstacy base to the grille and lady looks great it's a copy of o e why not make it look real.the hood is so long it look appropriate from all angles.
Interesting: converting it to diesel. Can you comment more on that?
Don't get never dull on that white paint while your using it though , use some blue tape along that trim never dull will stain that white paint .
