As a boy of 11 or 12, this was the first car that made my head turn and ask pop 'what is THAT?' Of course he knew what it was. Made a real impact and really stood out.
I would absolutely LOVE to have an 81/ 83 Imperial! My favorite car I have ever owned was an 82 Cordoba! It was solid, reliable, and oh so comfortable! I parted it out in 1996 when it had 189k on it. It was still reIiable as a daily driver, but was getting a bit quirky in it's ways, and as a newlywed, I felt I should get something newer for the wife to drive, but I loved that car! I saved the front passenger seat and made a desk chair out of it! I'm sitting on it right now, still enjoying the "rich Corinthian leather". :)
OLD SCHOOL CAR LIKE THAT ARE LIKE ROYALTY TO DRIVE AND BE SEEN IN.
The Imperial fuel injection system had several issues. The main problem was the state of filtration in 1981-83. Many gas stations still had old metal tanks in the ground that were deteriorating. This would bring lots of sediment into the gas tank. FI fuel pumps, pressure regulators and injectors don’t like foreign objects. Also, Chrysler electronics were not the most robust, and their location under hood didn’t help. Another problem was that the air cleaner has to be installed for the car to run. However, things like the timing cannot be set, and throttle sensors cannot be calibrated unless it’s removed. It was a nightmare for technicians to service, and some settings were difficult to get right. The fuel quality and filtration issues are not a factor today, so it should have better reliability than previously. Super nice Imperial!
Great information! Thanks! The idle is not perfect. Has a light flutter but it actually runs perfectly otherwise.
Thank you Bob for selling it to me❤
In the late 80's I checked out one of those [Frank Sinatra edition] on a dealer's lot on a Sunday when they were closed. Big sofa on wheels.
What did he pay?
Imperial was a separate brand through 1975, then began again separately for these cars from 1981-83.
I love to "meet" the people that are selling their cars.
This car is in beautiful condition! Thank you for sharing it.
Running great with the EFI !!!
Love this car Bob
I had a 1981 it had been converted to a carburetor, very quiet and comfortable car
I used to work for Wayne Castle when Foreign Cars Unlimited was at your location. It was a pretty good place to work. Bought a lot of cars from Wayne.
Not a fan of bustle backs but this was the prettiest of the 80's versions.
LOVE these old cars! A limo version of this was used by Burt Reynolds in "Cannonball Run II".
I remember when I was a kid one of the Chrysler dealers in our area had their main dealership sign with three brands on it when most only had two. There was Chrysler, Plymouth and Imerial on the traditional Chrysler dealship sign so Chrysler was definately still trying to market it as a seperate brand. It's the only one I remember seeing and remained up maybe 7 or 8 years after that model went out of production. I remember seeing several of the cars on the road but I don't recall seeing another Chrysler dealership sign with Imperial on it.
what a very classy beast ! one of my favorite cars of the 1980s !
Wow, again a beautiful car👍
I love the 'old' US cars so much. I live in Europe and here you almost never see such US cars.
What a beautiful classic car!
Very cool piece of history Bob & Becky!!
I purchased new in 1981. The fuel injection was a nightmare. The dealership Chrysler Corporate had it converted over. $2K at Chrysler Corporate paid the bill.
The car itself was just a classic look.
Mine had a moon roof. And White/Red interior leather. Red carpet.
23K new in 1981. I traded the car for 1982 New Audi 5000. Never had a issue with that car.
Today I drive Cadillac. Thank you
Dude, you should have kept the Imperial! 😁
The 1980s brings flashbacks of the Cordoba commercials talking about its "rich Corinthian leather". The Imperial was unique and brought that regal look with that tail end and that big grille in front but I believe they had their fuel injector issues (and had to recall them replace them all with carburetors).
Yes. That’s what makes this one even more rare. Working original fuel injection system.
What a beautiful vehicle! I wish I could buy it. Looking forward to seeing it on your site.
Hey Bob & Becky, this Imperial is so unique, I actually like the style of it. It's a shame that the fuel injection was such a disaster, it really had everything on it!!! Thanks for sharing another exciting video!!! 👍👍🙂
That baby looks pretty plush!
One of the most beautiful cars ever made!
Thats a very special car.
I would much rather have an old car like that than a new one that's built like trash!!!! I have a 1977 Nova Concours, but it's not as nice as this one, but I love it still!!!!
And one of that style/era I have ever seen, hope h gets his health back on a level plain....
Those crystals! Those mother brings me the keys, crystals. Wow. That’s all I can say.
The Sinatra version came with a set of his albums on 8 track or cassette (depending on which tape player the car had).
rides like a caddy
Great video Bob!
I agree with your enthusiasm about this car, Bob.
Lovely Imperial - painful video. Mopar continued to issue service bulletins for the EFI AFTER the conversion/swap program, resulting in many 'sorted' Imperials.
I believe Frank Sinatra paid Lee Iacocca full retail price in cash for two (2) new Imperials. One for himself and one for his wife. Frank wanted to feel he was doing his part to help save Chrysler Corporation. Sadly, as told in this video, Frank Sinatra had a bad experience with the Imperials he bought.
Amazing car ❤❤
Look at the door lights. It’s like the engineers looked at the other cars that they were going to be competing with and said, they have good lighting on those doors. But we can do more. When one of the engineers asked, more, do you mean better. The first engineer said more. The second engineer was like, ok.
I have had a chance to buy one of these a time or two for inventory and Bring a Trailer, but I am so picky there was one thing or another that stopped me from pulling the trigger. Soon I will grab one!
Good luck finding one as nice and original as this one!
As you and I both know it is a challenge for sure!! However I have been very fortunate to keep on finding so many very ultra low mile Classics of all sorts from the 70's and 80's. The hunt is the fun part, but I don't need to tell you that!! Lol! @@euroasianbob9268
nice car bob.
Thanks!
I am looking for an Imperial in blue.
I tried to buy a 83 blue on blue in Michigan and the seller just wouldn't message me back or couldn't find a date and time to meet up. Wanted the car pretty bad but since the seller didn't seem to want to get rid of it I bought a 86 Corvette instead lol
These were beautiful cars, problem is at certain angles, they looked too much like a cheaper Chrysler.
Eyes on the road. Hands at 2 and 10.
Becky it's better been out and about 👍🥰
Great Find❤🏆 Love those Rare 80s Imperials! What’s the Mileage?? Also what’s Broken?? Does the A/C work? Radio..etc, etc
Rumor was there was a Frank Sinatra edition that automaticaly punched reporters in the face if they got in..
From Bustle to Bangle Butt....no Corinthian Leather, eh? My father owned, I believe the Seville with the same rear end (a true Cadillac Man; buy, not lease, drive to and fro from the golf course and trade it in every two years, not his favorite)
This particular Imperial has the “Mark Cross” leather interior. I vacationed in Hawaii in 1981 and saw a “Mark Cross” retail store that sold lady’s handbags and such.
Bob. Who straightened out the fuel injection on this vehicle? Has it been upgraded to new software or something? Thanks
I’ll have to get details from the previous owner.
Tornado looks like busle back in 69?
Hey Bob & Becky!
This is Lancy from ANCEL. I am reaching out to see whether you are interested in reviewing our OBD2 diagnostics scan tool? Looking forward to your reply.
Well done video. Chrysler used to make beautiful cars. It’s a shame that brand new cars today are not the least bit attractive, to me anyway. It’s like designers try extra hard to make fugly ugly cars.
I agree!
@@euroasianbob9268 Oh, by the way, I daily drive a 1994 Eldorado. Prior to this I drove a 1997 Continental. New cars don’t excite me.
You're not alone. Dude! The new ones are not only ugly, but also uncomfortable!
@@allenwayne2033 As a little kid in the 1970s I grew up surrounded by new Cadillacs and Lincolns. And my Aunt had a spectacular yellow 1967 New Yorker. The impression these cars made on me has lasted a lifetime and these are the cars that I still gravitate toward today. I’m not sure what my next car will be. Perhaps an old Fleetwood or Town Car. I get a bigger kick out of these old cars than any brand new car that I could buy today. Also high on my list is an early 1980s Riviera. Call me crazy, but I love all that fake plastic wood on the dash!
@@euroasianbob9268 I forgot to say that in the mid 1980s I totally fell in love with a white Dodge Mirada with factory alloy wheels. I think it had a white or navy leather interior. I lusted over that car something crazy, but I was in college at the time and I simply couldn’t swing it.
With all due respect and I mean no disrespect by this but what is up with all these UA-cam's telling us their life story I just want to see the car
I do two parts to many cars. Some people really want the back story. My other videos are detailed overviews of the car itself. These are probably what would most interest you. There will be one coming on this car soon.
@@euroasianbob9268 cool will look for it thanks
