I really enjoy your videos. Extremely helpful! About 7 months ago i became a night-time custodian for an Elementary school here in Shelton, CT. I have been using your methods since the first day i started. Thank you so much !
I am new to your channel, and I want to say thank you so much. I am going to a interview Friday 07.14.23 at a elementary school for a full time year round janitor. I found your videos helpful to also help me get ready for my interview. Thank you again
I totally agree about the bathrooms they can be one of the more difficult jobs. I have a hall that has a bathroom in every classroom for a total of 16 bathrooms, so unfortunately, I can't always vlean them as well as i would like do to time constraints.
Been in the cleaning business with my wife for 25+ years. Last 20 years with same customed....a colonospy outpatient center. We now have both of their centers...stank? Ha! You ain't smelled nothin'!
As a school janitor I find it extremely helpful to have my bathroom entrance doors always open after students have been dismissed for the day. I highly recommend purchasing a hard plastic door jab holder that easily keeps the entrance of bathrooms a breeze. Makes janitorial tasks easier.
Mr. Jeff. Another great video. If you would use a Hydrogen Peroxide Disinfectant/cleaner helps with the stank in the bathroom as well. No rinsing with Peroxide. Since it will counter the Urine. Could use a microfiber pad on a stick to clean your partition walls which are faster than the spray and wipe method. It's true hitting your drains and urinals with bio Enzymes cleaner. I'm lucky I have a Kiavac bathroom cleaner to use. Hitting the floors with a single or a swing scrubber for the floors. I think hitting your bathroom floors with Disinfectant cleaner it builds up on the bathroom floors with a biofilm and makes them feel sticky. Need to hit them with a floor cleaner once in a while.
What is a Kiavac? And I use Steam to clean because it cut through dirt disinfects and sanitize. I like that steam doesn't use as much water and chemicals. But I'm just getting started, is steam a good way to clean?
Man I wish I had a hose bib in mine. That being said. I wish I had sinks that had water to them. Love that you disposable rags. Everyone at work thinks I'm nuts for not using rags
What would you want to use a rag that needs washing. Plus having to deal with not having to keep with one for sinks and toilets. Just use and trash and move on. Is my opinion.
@@jshanks8365that’s what we do.. I don’t go from a toilet and use it on a sink though and I usually just use it on the chrome because I Johnny mop the outside of the toilet(not the chrome or handle) but I also pre spray everything first.
You do a great job cleaning the bathrooms. The smell could be the drains.Pouring mop water with disinfectant helps.I also use a chemical that is used to pour down drains.Another tip is using a liquid fragrance to ad to mop water or a deodorizer
if dirty mop water is sitting in the p-trap there will be a toxic smell . just plain water poured down there will keep it at bay but you need to do it anytime you toss dirty water down the drain.
Got any tips for trigger sprayers? Do you mainly use spray mode or stream mode? Also maybe tips on cleaning them? Sometimes the trigger parts stick and the don’t wanna pop back out automatically.
Who makes the disposable blue rags you like to use? I’m curious if using them would be more cost effective than using microfiber rags and washing? Thanks!
I work as a Custodian. Here in San Diego, Ca. When at Elementary schools we have to do the WHOLE school...every room... dumping trash, stocking paper towels, etc. When every room has been completed we have to vacuum 8-11 rooms every night. Often this takes nearly a whole shift many times I've never taken a lunch or a break. I'm not slow I'd rate my self a 7 in the one to 10 scale...10 being lightening fast. Adding to this there's usually 2 sets of bathrooms you clean extensively . The others you just trash and fill the paper items. When I see your extensive bathroom cleaning here adding a hosing off this would be impossible unless the shift was 16 hours ! At Junior highs there's 2 custodians on nights sometimes 3 and it still takes most all of the shift to complete the basic tasks. The extensive job you've done here is done during the long breaks.
I understand ya fully! I use to have 27 classrooms plus bathrooms. Garbage and everything else that comes with it. No night shift had to be done during school hours. In those days yes long breaks for deep bathroom cleaning. I work at a collage not. A little slower pace for sure. Always people here l. So makes it a challenge at times. Take some advice from and old man. You take care of yourself. Take those breaks and lunch. They don’t care if you do or not. The only one that it hurts is you in the long run. I am a fast worker myself. Over time it will wear you out if you don’t take care of yourself. Here is a video I made about those breaks. Have a great day!!! ua-cam.com/video/78HYYqCfM78/v-deo.html
@@mrjeffthecustodian thanks for replying ! Funny... I worked work for the same district I did when I was 25 ! I came back as a sub 43 years later just for something to do after retiring for 8 years. I've been subbing coming on 2 years. I like to work around 10-15 days a month no more. ( swing shifts) Every day being off gets old. When you work you look forward to "days off" .
I split them half on day then other half next day. Then do it again the next day. Rotate them. I did them during the day. During PE and lunch times. It was a rush.
Been watching all your videos, great help. I've noticed that you don't have anything on covering someone's area when they call out. I have a big area that I clean everyday. Takes up pretty much 8 hours. When someone calls out then I might have to cover their area. How the hell do I cover an 8-hour area after an 8-hour shift, and not exhaust myself so I could be okay to work the next day again and maybe even cover that shift again
I kinda let other things go. When I worked in the elementary school. I took care of the bathrooms and garbage. That was the most important. Class room cleaning didn’t get done. I had to learn to pace myself. Where I work now same thing. Not going kill myself day after day. I will cover this more in and upcoming video.
I have a feeling that there’s poor ventilation. I’ve been a plumber for over 30 years. If it’s not a sewer gas smell proper ventilation usually fixes the problem. I’m sure your cleaning isn’t the problem. If it smells like sewer gas the odds of a bowl wax not sealing is really high.
@@mrjeffthecustodian I would start with the bowl waxes on the toilets. If it’s not a floor drain it’s usually a wax. I can’t imagine it’s a floor drain with hosing the place down. Smells are either fairly easy to find or the absolute hardest thing to find. Although you could check the floor drain before cleaning to see if it’s getting siphoned out.
No just when I think it needs it. When I worked in school system. I did it 2 Or 3 times a year. Now that I am in a collage setting. I just do it when floors start to get build up.
@mrjeffthecustodian well I might be watching your videos more. I have a job interview today for a custodian job at a elementary school.
