My dad was telling me a story that his friend(that was a long retired steel mill worker) told him. So my dads friend was working at a Pittsburgh steel mill, and he noticed that there was a pair of boots and a wallet on one of the overhead beams. And then he looked over onto a beam directly above a vat of molten steel and saw that there was a man standing there, and before he could let an operator now he was there, he jumped into the steel and, his words, "fell onto it like it was concrete and disintegrated into dust". He had left his boots and wallet on the beams so they could be found and he could be identified and his family be compensated for his death. He said it was one of the worst things that he had ever seen.
Wow he does look Nordic skyrim , lol I can imagine him sitting around the campfire putting the unintelligent warriors to sleep with nerd science fact then they bully him with a loin clothe wedgie until the Dragon comes around for lunch.
So you mean to tell me that if I jumped into lava in a volcano, I would: - Have my lungs vaporized on the way down - All my nerves would be burnt up before I touched down - My eyes would boil like eggs and turn into steam - EVERY bone in my body would break as they pierced into the lava - I would be trapped underneath it for a few seconds before popping back out - And then what's left of my corpse would zip around the surface of the lava like Mario Kart. Your lungs are goey, ultramoist, and mostly made of water. At this temperature, the hot air would instantly vaporize them, turning them gazeous in a blink.
I'm more curious about what happens to your brain... Granted, I kinda feel like between the extreme heat plus the moisture it's guaranteed to 'pop', but my question is more 'Would the heat kill your ability to register pain before you finish your lovely phoenix-dive'?
Almost everything you can think about can be turned into a solid a liquid and gas... With the lungs not being an exception! They would litteraly be gas in like no time at all!
Yeah, I know ! It's just that, typically, since they're almost pure water, your lungs are the most sensitive part to high temperature - cold air will freeze your lungs long before your skin for example ! But what about the eyeball ? Are they closer to the lungs or skin... ?
I think that would be worse. Without fire resistance you almost insta die barely feeling pain. With fire resistance you would survive a few more seconds in extreme pain before you die anyways. I mean, how much fire resistance would you need to actually survive? And even if you survived, would your body still be okay? Or kinda burnt? I prefer just to insta die xD
My grandfather told me he watched a man jump into a crucible when he was working at a steel mill. He said he didn't float or sink, he burned into dust before he touched the liquid metal.
Thats the way he told it, He walked up like he was going to check it, and just bailed in They had to do a chemical analysis to find out if he was in there, not a speck of solid matter was found, so they poured a piece of steel in the shape of a coffin from the metal he jumped into and buried that. I get to hear all sorts of horrifying stories about working in the steel mill.

You assumed wrong on the terminator thing. There is scene in Terminator 3 where some firemen try to pick up terminator but he weights so much they can't even nudge him, suggesting he's extremely heavy. Just an observation.

If the terminator is so heavy that a group of strong and in shape firemen couldn't pick him up, he would need to take up a lot more space in order to lower his density so that he could float. Density is just mass over volume, so increasing the mass without increasing volume would increase density.
Jonathan Green I don't think firemen is a very good way of gauging how much mass is in an object... But I see your point. Your original post just said firemen, so I assumed one person which shouldn't really be able to pick a hunk of metal anyways.
I was just pointing out that the fact that multiple firemen not being able to lift something must mean that it is pretty heavy. Obviously we couldn't gauge an exact weight based on that alone.

I poked lava with a walking stick once that was flowing slowly down the side of a volcano, and it was so dense. You couldn't really swipe the stick side to side because it was so thick and all I could really do is poke holes in it that would flow back into itself. When we threw sticks on it, they landed on top like it was a solid surface and burst into flames. The only issue I have with this is that not all Lava is the same. There are different types of rock, mafic and felsic and that creates different kinds of molten rock. Also temperature matters a great deal, the higher the temperature, the less dense it is. Looking at the rapid lava flows of lava through lava tubes, you would most definitely sink some into it as the fluid motion of the lava would shift around you while you're carried down stream.
That's probably because it was exposed to air. Similar to something like play dough. If you leave it out too long the outside will harden but the inside will still be fine.
+Rensune It would be pretty quick. You would explode due to boiling blood and turn to ash in seconds due to the insane heat of actual flowing (orange) lava.
Darth Jar jar In the original myths, both Thor and Loki were ginger, rather than the blond and black hair that people are more familiar with these days. Loki was also the half brother to Odin, and Thor's uncle.
+Nerdist I got a question? If a tank weight 15.75t moving at 64.7 km/h hits the tree, and the tank explodes, how strong must the tree be to resist the tank or make the tank explode on it's own? source - World of Tanks. Is it Possible for people to be capable of breathing even a little bit or even a second in thermosphere? source-A Certain Scientific Railgun S2 Final Episode. Is shooting a railgun in your hand possible? source- A Certain Scientific Railgun.
+Dan Maximus He didn't really fall into the Lava did he, he only slid down the hill until it touched him some and ignited him. So it would really depend on how high one could get until they burned out their lungs to determine how/if at all inaccurate the scene is and whether either Obi-wan or Anakin could have even survived floating above it like they did.
The movie Volcano, with everyone's favorite Alien Immigration Control Agent, has what i feel are some of the most accurate depictions of death by volcanic activity. Especially those first 4, who died so tragically from super heated gasses.
There are actually people that have fallen into molten metal and been pulled back out that did not die immediately because of the gas reaction you described. So idk.
An important thing to note about this is that while it would LOOK horrific, it would not FEEL horrific, as within seconds of being on/in the lava, your nerves would be fried to a crisp and you wouldn't feel much of anything. So yeah, looks horrific for quite some time, but only painful for maybe 2-3 seconds, tops. In fact your body is probably in shock during that time anyway, so you probably don't feel any pain at all.
PopDatPeridot69 They’d be dead as soon as they got even close to the lava, not the way it happened at the end. Their clothing would have ignited as well as the vaporizing of their organs. That’s the scary thing with lava. It doesn’t have to even touch you.
In the Lord of the Rings books I think the One Ring melted as soon as it hit the lava but in the movies they had it float on Gollum’s ashes for a minute to leave the audience in suspense which was a cool effect on Peter Jackson’s part

From the show berserk the main character -> Guts, a man who can carry a sword about the same size of his body. A sword so big they just call it a mass of iron. Is it possible for him to carry that sword. And then swing it faster than human eye can see?
SirMilkyMars physically unlikely, although I've always wondered whether a technique could be adjusted by a superhuman being so they work with the momentum and use it to their advantage. Regarding whether moving the sword fast enough so the Hunan eye can't follow the movements, it's possible, but the person wielding it would be sent like a catapult stone the other way
SirMilkyMars or another way to have the giant sword move without launching yourself into orbit would be to slowly begin swinging the sword and then spin with it, spinning faster and faster around yourself, progressively until you become a human beyblade
Michael a perfect defence is the unstoppable offence. If no one is willing to get within 2 and a half meters of you in fear of getting hit by a massive, supersonic blade, no one has the chance of beating you. Guts has it figured out
The human beyblade thing is exactly how I carry large bags of dead plants and the like over long distances, makes me dizzy but I don't feel the weight at all - well not unless I slow down or stop
That was a really good Gollum impression. There is a superhero book called prepare to die that has the heroes running on top of the lava as it burns his legs. The audio book guy also does video game voices.
+༺Fizerin༻ yup. when set on fire after burning for about 60 seconds you would stop feeling pain from the nerve damage. but im sure most people would be dead at this point from either suffocating on the smoke and lack of oxygen or from inhaling the flames which burn your throat and then suffocate on the swelling and scaring of the oesophagus and lungs. this is what ive heard anyway. also the tightening of the skin around the chest would also compress your chest causing you to not be able to breath. basically by the time you stop feeling the pain of the burning, you would already be dead
+Shiro Nogitsune You'd be dead anyways. The human brain is not equipped to handle high temperatures. That's what happened in Pompeii. They got hit by a high temperature air blast that was so hot they literally just stopped being alive. Or, you could wind up like in Herculaneum, where the air was so hot that the small amounts of water in their sinuses boiled and literally exploded their skulls from the inside.
+David Linkan Oh no. Pyroclastic flows are insanely hot. At their absolute coolest, they're about 400 degrees Fahrenheit, enough to easily cook you, but most of them are closer to 1,800 degrees Farenheit. Depending on the temperature, you might be like the Pompeii people and die instantly with little damage to your body, though you'd probably be missing your lungs, or you could be like the Herculaneum people and have the skin vaporized off your body. Either way, you definitely die from cooking. They definitely didn't live long enough to suffocate, which is a small mercy.
One part of death by lava that wasn't mentioned is that because of how hot lava is all of the blood and water within your body would flash boil just as you touch the surface, and the extreme pressure expansion from all of the now gaseous water vapor in your veins would make you explode.
+Sean Peery And even if he didn't vaporize instantaneously, well before his veins exploded, his braincase would do so. That's, for example, what happened to Herculaneum's inhabitants when they were reached by the pyroclastic flows from the Vesuvius in 79 a.D.
according to description about the Terminator you are correct, less dense than steel, but denser than people, by the resilience of the frame with everything done to it, would be somewhere about the same as titanium.
I SO want to see a scene where someone that has jumped, fallen or been thrown into molten metal skitters across the top of it screaming...would be one of the best comedic death scenes ever....

+Charles Hixon totally agree! basaltic, rhylotic and andesitic lava all have very different properties
so, more "revenge of the sith" than "terminator 2"
That's what I was thinking. It would be extremely painful.
+Raul Mejia You're a big guy
+Armando Galvez For you
+Armando Galvez
Get this hothead outta here!
I don't think anyone thought death by lava would be pleasant.
+Rensune WHAT!!!!
+Rensune you're kidding? i thought it would be one of the more euphoric experiences in life.
+Rensune It would be pretty quick. You would explode due to boiling blood and turn to ash in seconds due to the insane heat of actual flowing (orange) lava.
Why? A hot bath have never hurt anyone before, right? RIGHT?!
Moonman First off, I'm no kid. Second, do you have something against disabled people?
That was a great Gollum impression. It needs to reappear more often.
I am extremely horrified now. Thanks science Thor.
+FoxyWhite Thor? Either I hit my head in a really bad way or this guy's not ginger.
Völundr Frey he can still be Thor
+Völundr Frey I didn't know throw ginger
Darth Jar jar In the original myths, both Thor and Loki were ginger, rather than the blond and black hair that people are more familiar with these days. Loki was also the half brother to Odin, and Thor's uncle.
oh didnt know that thanks for telling me
=D
So in new super Mario bros when you fall into lava and pop back up while on fire, it's actually realistic
+Osmium Gaming Hahaha yeah I guess so! -- KH
The water in your body would vaporize to turn you into a firework
Exactly. Surprised he didn't mention this...
+Sireesha Eluri oh my... movies XD so family friendly. added to that you would already be on fire before you even hit the surface of lava itself.
WAIT WAS HE WRITING ON THE BOARD BACKWARDS THAT WHOLE TIME
good point
Believe that’s how the works.
Either that or he is left handed and flips the video.
He always is.
John Ingram He’s right handed. The video is flipped when he writes words, and not flipped when drawing
Is that Thor
Recipies For Dummies finally someone mentioned this
like Thors soft little brother
Recipies For Dummies that ain't Thor that's THORS Mama!
Recipies For Dummies yes
He's jacksepticThor
why is Thor talking to me about dying in lava?
Lol.
+Cheetos Christ Because he's swam in it.
Because he is an educathor
+PopTartNeko good one
+PopTartNeko how do I like this comment?
Someone needs to take one for the team, and jump into lava on camera so we can all see it.
Yeah why don't you do it
+Ilyaas Najee-Ullah Okay, will do. Where is there lava close to Nevada?
+Daniel Lockaby Wait a few centuries!
some shock sites may have videos of it actually happening
+Daniel Lockaby Just throw a SynDaver in there instead. It's more expensive but at least we won't lose you.
I clicked for lava facts.
I stayed for vegan Thor and Peter Parkers lovechild.
Very surprised you didn't pick apart anakin's lava scene!
+Dan Maximus I don't like sand..
+Dan Maximus thumbnail clickbait? damn
+Dan Maximus He didn't really fall into the Lava did he, he only slid down the hill until it touched him some and ignited him. So it would really depend on how high one could get until they burned out their lungs to determine how/if at all inaccurate the scene is and whether either Obi-wan or Anakin could have even survived floating above it like they did.
he died on the inside bro
+THE X-TREME TEAM He did. From a certain point of view.
Thors giving us an inside in Holly wood
lmao
your wrong the true thor is a ginger with a beard XD
Grammer nazi 😂😂😂😂😂
+Yousuf Ahmed I wasnt the only one :p
+Bengt Svenson *Grammar Nazi.
why is thor teaching me science
cus vikings
+sebastian svensson no, this thor didnt make the cast. too scrawny
+a bit legit I'm dead xD
+a bit legit because internet.
And making impressions.
Just imagine seeing someone just fall into lava and then seeing them skip across the lava
Imagine tho
Dude the Golum impression...just wow.
its gollum with 2 l's. :3
Kai Barber i hate you
Magicses - love it
You look like Thor
Thor and Jake from Vsauce2
If Thor only ate gluten-free
kura paska Hahahah shut the fuck up.
I just was on my way to write the exact same thing
You misspelled *Joe Dirt* don't worry I got you.
Why is Thor teaching us about lava?
lol
dadey1000 because science apparently .
no idea.
Because Surtur trys to kick his ass with it in Thor Ragnarok, so he's teaching us so we can help join in the fight against him
Savage mode: on
The movie Volcano, with everyone's favorite Alien Immigration Control Agent, has what i feel are some of the most accurate depictions of death by volcanic activity. Especially those first 4, who died so tragically from super heated gasses.
There are actually people that have fallen into molten metal and been pulled back out that did not die immediately because of the gas reaction you described. So idk.
Really? I would be interested to look into that. Do you know where to find reports of such things?
Croaking Frog yea look it up. Its essentially like falling on a bed of zillion degree bed of coals.
Mythbuster show once the effect. They had molten Metal, but before they force their hand inside, they bath it in generic water
No dmg at all
Wow, Brad Pitt owns a youtube channel
Hilarious
+PikiarroPlayer i think he's more like the lovechild of Brad Pitt and Chris Hemsworth
+Péter Stangl Agreed.
chris hemsworth and brad pitt jizzed in the same toilet and it was struck by lighting creating this guy
What will happen if you cut off someone's arm and suddenly attach it at the same place with duct tape?
would slowly re-connect like a cut??
I don't know. That's why I asked nerdist.
Christian Leapley It should re-connect like a cut but not 100% imo.
+Rahul Siyanwal someone should try it out😂
Christian Leapley he will end up in jail. BECAUSE LAW!
Tfw anakin skywalker’s experience on mustafar was probably the most accurate depiction of what would happen to you near lava
PopDatPeridot69
They’d be dead as soon as they got even close to the lava, not the way it happened at the end. Their clothing would have ignited as well as the vaporizing of their organs. That’s the scary thing with lava. It doesn’t have to even touch you.
You forget, HE WAS THE CHOSEN ONE!
I don't know...the lava had the high ground. ;)
Trevor Muse hurr durr no because they are force sensitive so the force protects them from anything outside the main plot
Nahhh both would be dead from breathing in such heat.
That was a rather good Gollum impression.
I agree
I come to rewatch this video just for this impression
Reminded me more of JarJar
and one of the worst Arnold impersonations
your golem impression is actually really good. 10/10
okay Gollum* same thing you know what i meant
In the Lord of the Rings books I think the One Ring melted as soon as it hit the lava but in the movies they had it float on Gollum’s ashes for a minute to leave the audience in suspense which was a cool effect on Peter Jackson’s part
Civil War science incoming! Iron Man, Spider-Man...Stay tuned! -- KH
+Nerdist #teamironman
#TeamCaptainAmerica
This was hilarious, #best golom ever.
YAAAAAY!

Best Gollum impression I've ever heard!! XD
If you would throw yourself into a vulcano couldn't you just die from the impact of the fall?
if you are lucky.
Remember from game theory, its not the fall, its the sudden stop
Entirely depends how high you fall. At terminal velocity you're good.
You'd catch fire as you fall towards the lava. So death by fire, then finished by impact
you'd probably explode because all the water is evaporating and expanding, so yum!
I enjoyed your Sméagol... “Gollum! [hairball] Gollum!”
That Gollum impression sounded more like Jar Jar Binks
Can't un-hear. 'What yousa got in your pocketses?'
ow, ; ( I could see JarJar getting into lava.
Nah!!!
bro, that golem voice. golden, just golden
+Clarke Kent you might say it was precious
+Jesse “Feel Good” Filoteo pa dum tss
+Jesse “Feel Good” Filoteo HAHAHAHAHA!!! get out
From the show berserk the main character -> Guts, a man who can carry a sword about the same size of his body.
Regarding whether moving the sword fast enough so the Hunan eye can't follow the movements, it's possible, but the person wielding it would be sent like a catapult stone the other way
SirMilkyMars or another way to have the giant sword move without launching yourself into orbit would be to slowly begin swinging the sword and then spin with it, spinning faster and faster around yourself, progressively until you become a human beyblade
haha human beyblade
Did you know: You can drink lava, but only once.
Baha lmao “but only once”
Well if your fast enough twice
@@cruz-sk3ix 🤣🤣🤣
if your nerves would instantly melt doesnt that mean you would feel no pain?
+༺Fizerin༻ yup. when set on fire after burning for about 60 seconds you would stop feeling pain from the nerve damage. but im sure most people would be dead at this point from either suffocating on the smoke and lack of oxygen or from inhaling the flames which burn your throat and then suffocate on the swelling and scaring of the oesophagus and lungs. this is what ive heard anyway. also the tightening of the skin around the chest would also compress your chest causing you to not be able to breath. basically by the time you stop feeling the pain of the burning, you would already be dead
but jumping into a volcano as he describes it does sound like it be a painless death, just not a quick pleasant one :P
+༺Fizerin༻ it'd hurt while the nerves were being incinerated though.
+Michael Burt so it woulnt be so bad xD
+Nathan unknown shieeet my gf is getting braces 😧
well that was close... just cancelled my volcano diving trip after watching this.
can't believe none of that was in the brochure
Playing "The floor is lava" just got that much more terrifying.
Your Arnold impression is pure gold
pure molten gold... which he is sinking in👍
+LightningBolt18 the thumbs up got me
So Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me has the most accurate portrayal of death by lava then.
wait...when?
Kenny Kenken watch the movie
I was just gonna post this. Good on ya my dude.
No. Mario has.
One of my favourite movies
So if you jump into a volcano, hold your breath.
+Kaynos If you're going for the lava, don't hold it. Unless you want to die very, very painfully.
DisabledBiscuit Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Poor sods.
+DisabledBiscuit Interesting facts, thank you. I thought the Pompeii people suffocated before dying...
This is my first video of yours and I automatically subscribed. Love this!
You missed the greatest chance ever to show scrooge McDuck diving into his money when you talked about jumping into metal :)
john tucker 😂😂
I think family guy already did that
Science of Lava : Narrated by THOR !
You look like if Thor were a physics teacher
Your Gollum impression is really, really good.
One part of death by lava that wasn't mentioned is that because of how hot lava is all of the blood and water within your body would flash boil just as you touch the surface, and the extreme pressure expansion from all of the now gaseous water vapor in your veins would make you explode.
Yes but you'd be dead from super heated air and poison gas before you ever hit the surface so no worries
+burnin8able Your skin would burn holes before you could build up the pressure to explode. So it would still be burning to death, just in a flash.
+Sean Peery And even if he didn't vaporize instantaneously, well before his veins exploded, his braincase would do so. That's, for example, what happened to Herculaneum's inhabitants when they were reached by the pyroclastic flows from the Vesuvius in 79 a.D.
shoild have watched lord of the rings before seeing this...
should
its a sin you havent watched Lord Of the Rings before
+Pure Orange Im sorry i just didnt had the time
Ricardo alves take a sick day or something, its worth it
should*
Anyone ever tell you look like Thor?
Only every other comment on this video.
Gamerborn yeah just about everyone
Probably a rare thing to happen...
...without the muscles
Not anymore
according to description about the Terminator you are correct, less dense than steel, but denser than people, by the resilience of the frame with everything done to it, would be somewhere about the same as titanium.
the Arnold, ehh
the gollum, freaky good
I thought it was the other way around lol. His Gollum sounds more like Stitch.
yep
His gollum is good.
+jinitron Smeagol wasn't good, Gollum was just worse.
+jinitron *clap* *clap* *clap*
+DirtyVenom Elmo corrupt.
Tru dat
It sounds like stitch
Don't take this the wrong way, but you look like a more feminine version of Thor
But i guess it's not hard to be more feminine than Thor, 'cause Thor's pretty manly
I was think that too!!!
+courgeonaute Thor isn't manly. Thor is... cinematic :/
I SO want to see a scene where someone that has jumped, fallen or been thrown into molten metal skitters across the top of it screaming...would be one of the best comedic death scenes ever....
