He's just brilliant....Skunk Baxter repeatedly says he is the most underrated musician in the world which is high praise. Listen to Livin on the Fault Line when you get a chance to see 6 guys at the top of their game....sadly Little John Hartman and Keith Knudsen have passed but the other 4 are still with us and it would be fantastic to hear them reunite in some form if/when the Doobs do some kind of farewell tour. Tiran Porter is such a talented/interesting guy and I would absolutely love to read any book he would write. Thanks for doing the interview, Ti....and congrats on being inducted into the HOF.
The first time I heard the Doobies, what immediately drew me in was Tiran’s punchy bass lines. I threw my guitar out the window ( metaphorically), took up the bass and never looked back. Still gigging with my band today at 66. When someone asks me who my influences were on bass, the first words out of my mouth are Tiran Porter! Thanks brother!
What a got darn legend man.. thank you for interviewing him.. I just wanna see him play one more time with the Doobies but unfortunately I do understand why he wouldnt. And I totally respect that for sure. Guy is awesome.
@@oldschoolguystalkingoldsch6991 no lie, no doubt, but giving what he said earlier during this interview(kinda messed up) I myself couldn't agree more with his decision to sit in and play a couple signature songs he helped made happen(Streets, What A Fool, Minute by Minute, etc..) but I feel like if you were to ask him next time, he'll probably say no or that he's done touring or performing live(which I understand) he helped shape the Doobie Brothers 52 years and it still ignites this day but thank you for the interview again. Pretty awesome one y'all did for real. I noticed he said he and Mike spoke recently so there's a little to no hope. I'm still hanging on and hoping.. Tiran and Jeff B. It would be spectacular. All the Doobies in their 70s performing songs from the 70s.. they're also making a new album with Michael. I don't know if you seen that yet
What a great interview. You guys were precise and analytical without being over technical. I have been listening to the Doobies since ‘74 and to this day, there is no band that evokes more emotional positivity than they. Tiran was the MAN that could bring out those leads and melodies with a funky jazzy overtone that makes you want to listen repeatedly to their brilliance. I put Tiran in the top echelon of bass players, at par with Jaco. He is homespun, with tremendous humility. It would be amazing to sit with all of you and pick out some his other incredible pieces. Take a listen to Texas Lullaby. You will really like it. Thanks again for this.
Doobies were great before Michael McDonald. They were different but great when he joined. Clearly the sound was more rock and roll pre-Michael. Nothing wrong with that!!!
Yes Tiran. Write that book now! I’d love to know about your early years, your family and who influenced you for the Lord. I know you were being prayed for by your grandmother.
I‘m an old school Doobs fan and TP is my favorite bassplayer of all. Interesting insights into band relationships. His voice sounded muffled. Just an audio quirk I hope and not a voice or health problem
Tiran Porter has a unique sound which made the Doobie Brothers stand out. Tiran was under the weather when we recorded. He is much better now. Thank you for listening/watching.
Strangely enough, I was in a fraternity at University of Washington with Tommy's nephew. Mom is still friends with a bunch of musicians so I keep you on the hook. You have actually babysat me and my sister before. Remember?
Tiran was the secret sauce of the Doobies. Best ever.
Tiran wasn't a secret. He had a great feel. He gave the Doobies a groove that many other groups simply didn't have. Thanks for your comments.

A legend of the 70's! I correct myself, tiran Porter is a LEGEND! forever!

The older I get the more I appreciate Tiran's bass playing on Doobies.
@@mattfoley6082 He was one of the elements that made the Doobies unique.
Tiran great bassist, great singer. Cool beret !
The Beret was his signature for decades. Thanks for your comments.
I’m a 81 year old grandma. I’ve admired Tiran Porter forever! Thanks for this interview!!
Thanks for watching it was a fun interview. Tiran Porter was a very influential bassist.
Tiran's bass playing on Another Park, Another Sunday is next level - out of this world. And you seemed to gloss over it. Give it a good listen
@@cruisersupsupport4502 So, we asked Tiran what songs he wanted to discuss. He is a great bass player. He had a great feel.
@@oldschoolguystalkingoldsch6991 thanks for the clarification
Great tune, melody line reminds of the lazy flowin river part on bridge of Listen2 music

Wouldn't that be awesome. Tiran playing with the Doobies with Michael McDonald!!! 🤞🏾🤞🏾

I like and am a fan of the original sound of the Doobie Brothers - pre-mcdonald.

Hi Tiran. Bret Turner here, Gail and Rick's son. I still follow you with interest.
Hello, Bret. Although we interviewed Tiran, he doesn't answer comments here. I hope you take the time to view our interview. Thanks again.

Is Tiran whgrampa on telegram or twitter?
Nope. That's not him. He is NOT on social media... and if you ask him about it, he is happy that he is not on social media.
@@oldschoolguystalkingoldsch6991 do you have any ideas as to who whgrampa is??
