  • With some minor modifications made to a solenoid point motor on the upper level, sufficient clearance is achieved to allow a Hornby 9F loco to pass under on the lower level.

    Nice to see the layout running again. Nice to see the section with the lake/reservoir again 😎
    As for the next project, I would suggest the one you have the most complete ideas for. Maybe just crack on with the engine shed as once that's done you can park your engines somewhere! 😊
    Cheers mate 🍀👍🍻

    Hi Julian. Yet another fascinating video! It really great to see all the time and effot you out in to making those removable areas come in useful and even prove essential. Plus you did such a great job that we can't see them and I had totally forgotten about the church area etc. On a slightly related note regarding the 9F. We had a visiting one at Llangollen Railway some years ago when i worked as loco crew there. I have some footage somewhere of them route gauging it down the line and in particular on one over bridge on the Corwen extension. Put it this way, the 9F's are definitely that little bit taller than other loco's so it's not your model that is wrong. If anything it is pretty accurate! The gap between the cab and the underside of the stone arch was mesured with a 30cm metal ruler it was that tight! SO thank you once again and happy modelling!

    Great video Julian. This demonstrates perfectly why forward planning is essential. I don’t even want to imagine how you would have addressed this problem without the hinged and lift out sections around that area. Congratulations on solving the problem with minimal disruption. Thanks for sharing. Roy.

    Hi Julian, great seeing Station Road again, and seeing a train run. My vote is the farm area, I'd love to see that come to life, although the disused viaduct is going to great too! Farm! Cheers Dave 🙏

    I watched a randomly suggested video a couple weeks ago - guy built a goods shed, and for lighting, he attached two thin plates of copper(?) on two interior corners of the building. The building wires were soldered to these plates, which then married up to two identical plates on the baseboard. This allows the building to be removed for track cleaning, and gives an easy reliable electrical connection for the lights. Maybe something like this would work for your church?!

    • @StationRoadModelRailway
      @StationRoadModelRailway  5 місяців тому

      That's sounds like a good solution for the connectivity of building lights with the baseboard.

    Very enjoyable video, maybe this is one of those areas best suited to an above board point motor. When deciding on point motors i was never keen to cut holes in the baseboard particularly if the track plan changes, in the end went with slow action cobalts which i thought would be kinder to N gauge points but obviously more expensive when you have 50 points etc. In the end we all make our own decisions for various reasons..

    • @StationRoadModelRailway
      @StationRoadModelRailway  5 місяців тому

      I did buy a couple of surface-mount cobalts many years ago just for that reason of tricky locations, but I've never been a fan of visible motors, hence finding a alternate solution with surface-mounts being the last resort.

      Hi Stephen, many apologies for the very late reply. It was a pleasure to meet you also and accept your very generous offering. I have the Tarmac truck waiting in the wings for its spot on the layout and I think it might have to christen the depot access road when that area moves along a little further.

    Super video. Love the lift out sections and the use of magnets for the arch retaining walls. Always good to plan ahead. That warehouse just to your left in the final scene looks great - scratch built or a kit/kit bash? My preference would be for the engine shed and disused viaduct. Have you thought of putting inspection pits in the shed?

    Interesting the difference in height between the two 9F's. Could be, as someone else mentioned, a change in wheel standards so maybe measure the two sets to see or a slightly different machining to the chassis block.
    And the farm would be good, always nice to escape to the countryside.

    Lift off section and not adding any ballast has saved your bacon a little bit.
    I think finishing off a section of the layout would give you a sense of achievement, especially if you run into the mojo decline problem, you can see the bit you finished and give yourself a lift. Though of course no layout is ever truly finished.

    They may of changed the diameter of the wheels to make it accurate to OO scale. Do you have a video in your collection that shows the making of the curved viaduct as I need to make 2 of them. I am making a raised level using Metcafe Stone Viaduct kits and some other bridges that I have. I know Paul is missing you already. Martin. (Thailand)

      You'd think a change of modelling scenery would be advantageous, but I've found the viaduct build is just the ticket to keep the creativity alive. Of course, I'm now creating another area requiring rural scenery, so there'll be a lot of that coming up in the near future.
