    I have had my implant for a few years now and I can tell you it was the best thing I ever did. Dr. Eid was thorough in explaining the procedure to the point I was very comfortable with. I have the Coloplast Titan inflatable and it works great! Dr. Eid gave me back my life! Thank you, Dr. Eid...

    I saw two urologists. I explained my problems to them. The pump, pills and injections don't work for me. My urologist is totally against penal implants and warned me against having the procedure done but advised me to increase is amount of prostaglandin units or change to tri mix.
    My Urologist said implants bad out weighs the good. So many things can go wrong.

      Hi Mr. Jones. Thank you for writing. Your urologist may have had a bad experience with implants in the past. This is often the case with general urologists that have a busy practice and are not focused on penile implants only. There are currently anywhere from 20-25,000 inflatable implants performed in the US alone each year and patient satisfaction is extremely high. The implant was invented in 1973 and FDA approved in 1975 and the devices are now very reliable with life expectancy exceeding 20 years for some. Because they are so successful, Medicare and most commercial insurances cover the cost for the procedure. Please watch some of my other videos on UA-cam about why one should find a specialist when considering a penile implant. As is the case for all delicate surgical procedures, the results are always better when performed by a specialist. Likewise, this procedure is very safe in the hands of a penile implant specialist. In 2006 I invented the "No-Touch Technique" which is a procedure where we do not touch the skin. I have completed 3,368 consecutive implants since then and our infection rate is 0.5%, the lowest in the world.

      I had an implant in December of 2017. I am now waiting for my last appointment on February 5th for my final approval to do what I want. You need to talk with a urologist and watch all the videos on UA-cam you can, write out all of your questions and concerns. Discuss this all with a urologist. I did not even discuss this with my personal doc. He has not done one of these surgery’s. I have to say the pain was minimal. The pain I had I would say was more like I was punched and I was just sore . I had no sharp pain or pain like I was,kicked in the area. Really I had broken arm that hurt way more then this. Uncomfortable a bit more just getting use to a knew feel that went away in 7 days. I have to say the worry of surgery in that area was just over rated. Up and walking was no problem, the doc limited my walking the first week after that first week I have not looked back. I am waiting for the all clear on feb 5th. Talk with your urologist and make the decision biased on that discussion. By all means I would even be more to the point if you asked me questions. Look up the statistics of this procedure and it just does not come close to what you may have been lead to believe. Why give up this part of life on someone else’s bad experience. I hope you get back and talk to a urologist and maybe to people that have had this done. Very best wishes.

    Thank you for your question. Having performed over 7000 penile implants in the last 32 years, we receive a significant number of referrals from other Urologist when their patients are not satisfied with their implant. We therefore not only specialize in the initial implant procedure but also in repairs, revisions and replacement of implants performed elsewhere.

      After placement of coronary stents one is generally placed on blood thinners. The blood thinners cannot be stopped for a one year period. After a one year period, the blood thinner can be stoped and the penile implant procedure performed without the risk of bleeding. This is routinely performed for patients with coronary stents.

    Thank you doctor for this insightful, educational presentation. I will be having this procedure done this next month Unfortunately, my doctor did present this option only after I went through the hierarchy of treatment. As you said, it was presented to me as the "last resort." I've done lots of research and I'm feeling confident on having this procedure done.

    • @JFrancoisEidMD
      @JFrancoisEidMD  7 років тому +4

      Although medical options such as pills and injections need to be tried first, it is important to inform the patient of the existence and benefit of a penile implant when discussing treatments for erectile dysfunction. Physicians who omit or present the implant as a last resort may not be comfortable performing the procedure. In order to maximize success, one should seek the most experienced surgeon to perform the implant. This may not necessarily be the doctor near your home or in your insurance plan.

    I had a kidney stone removed by laser. The surgeon put the instruments up my meatus and up to my kidney and left a stent in for 12 days. Will this cause any problems now or if I have to have surgery to remove another stone in the future if I get an implant?. Also secondly, I am concerned about the failure rate. Are there things that a man should do, such as less frequent sex, abstaining from masturbation or other things to prolong the life of the implant. Thank you.

      Thank you for your question. You can have any procedure that is needed. The devices have 15-20 year life expectancy. When they fail they are easily replaced. You may resume all physical activities as early as two weeks after the penile implant procedure. For bicycle riding and horse back riding one should wait a full 4 weeks.

      Dr. Eid: How natural can an implant be when your partner handles or fondles your scrotum and there is a third object, the pump, inside? How can partners not know, given that on his back, a man with an inflated implant will have his penis pointing to the ceiling with no hands or other assistance?

    • @JFrancoisEidMD
      @JFrancoisEidMD  8 років тому +5

      By concealing the pump and tubing, the scrotum and penis feel completely normal. In addition, the vertical scrotal incision is concealed by the central raphe of the scrotum. I have many married patients who report that their wives are unaware that they have an implant.

    • @JFrancoisEidMD

      Very sorry to hear. You will need to wait a minimum of 3 months before considering another implant. It is strongly recommended that you consult with a penile implant specialist for your next procedure; a doctor that only performs implants and nothing else. It’s best to travel and get a good result, rather than have two 3 surgeries, such as you had, and be worse off than when you started treatment. Also you should be aware that after an infected implant is removed, the penis retracts, and heals retracted, which permanently and irreversibly foreshortens the length of the penis. All subsequent implants will be very difficult, require sharp dilators and more than one surgery. I cannot over emphasize the importance of consulting with an experienced specialist, rather than the doctor near your home or in your insurance plan.

    As I sat down in my Urologist office with my wife he explained that with penile implants the girth of a mans penis is lessened and the tip it softer than a natural erection in order to penetrate.

    • @JFrancoisEidMD
      @JFrancoisEidMD  7 років тому

      Hi Mr. Jones. Erectile dysfunction itself can cause a loss of length and even girth. If men leave their ED untreated, the lack of regular and nocturnal erections can cause shrinkage and atrophy of the penis. This will limit the size and girth of the penile implant cylinders that can be placed in the penis. In order to properly size the implant, an artificial erection is created in the office and measured. This will be the size of the penis after the implant is placed (please see www.urologicalcare.com/penile-implants-prosthesis/maximizing-penile-size/ and www.urologicalcare.com/penile-implants-prosthesis/penis-size-after-penile-implant-surgery/). The erection with an implant, when the cylinders are properly sized, is the same length as the artificial erection before the implant is placed. In the home setting, as opposed to the Doctor's office, with arousal, sexual stimulation, and manipulation of the penis, the glans penis will engorge and be naturally firm, which will allow for penetrative intercourse. Your urologist may not be aware of this physiological response. The device has been around since 1973, longer than Viagra, and 25,000 men choose to get a penile implant every year. There is a reason this is such a popular treatment option for advanced ED.
      Keep in mind that a very small number of urologists actually perform this procedure (7-10%) and an even smaller number do the procedure regularly. The best way to find out about an implant is to speak to someone who has one, rather than a physician with limited penile implant experience. If you would like to speak to a patient, please use this page of my website to talk to Mark: www.urologicalcare.com/patient-resources/ed-patient-liaison-service/
      I wish you luck as you continue to seek the best treatment for you and your wife.
