It wasn't our warm up but we did Jupiter, Venus and Mars as our three parts of a marching band show my junior year of high school. Hands down my favorite show we did.
1:39 is the exact moment that I, then 11 years old, was converted to classical music. I literally danced around my bedroom with that waltz segment on repeat.
The Planets has been one of my favorite pieces of music ever since, even after my classical tastes have long-since diversified. I have the entire score memorized at this point and I've played the euphonium part alongside the recording in personal practice sessions since high school. Holst remains one of my favorite composers and was my gateway to Vaughan Williams and Mahler, who *are* my favorite composers. I love Mars and Jupiter a lot, but the last three movements are my favorites, especially Neptune. Can't wait, y'all.
@@vvvvend3632 No it’s not. It’s “Jupiter the Bringer of Jollity,” which is a piece, not a song. This came before the British turned it into nationalistic garbage.
My school is doing part of this on our marching band performance. It's such a beautiful piece, easily one of my favorites (the part we play is at 2:56)
During full concerts of The Planets, they’d sometimes have to cut the symphony short for time, ending with Jupiter. I read that Holst hated ending on Jupiter because ‘life doesn’t have happy endings’. The mans a freaking goth.
All I got to say is that I'm impressed! Really! I am! Especially 2:57 which is my MOST favorite part! SMB! You did a wonderful job! It was worth the wait!

I'm in the same boat!! I conducted this a couple of days ago at our concert, and I would not stop smiling because of how gorgeous it was. I'm smiling right now, just thinking about it...and I'm choking up OMG WHY IS THIS SONG SO FREAKIN PRETTY???
I remember playing this piece for my last orchestra concert in my senior year, and this almost evokes the emotions I felt that day when I played for the final time with my orchestra family. I'm glad that this got recommended to me.
Finally, we get the best movement from the suite! Wonderful!!!! :))) Upd: still wait Saturn, Uranus and Neptune from you) especially to hear how you convey the subtlety and sophistication of Saturn and Neptune - along with Venus, the quietest parts of Holst's suite :)
Jupiter, and the entire album but especially Jupiter, brings me back to my days at Disney World going on Spaceship Earth filled with so much curiosity. I think Gustav Holst is one of the only composers to really get the feeling of space right, it just feels so full of wonder and excitement. It’s a vast expanse of unknown and millions of possibilities, just these pieces make me want to look up at the sky in awe.

I saw Neptune's one released a few weeks ago and wondered when Jupiter was coming as it's my favorite I cannot believe this has been out for a year right under my nose 2:57 just hits your soul on another level and probably the only section that I'd take the original over the piano covers despite how awesome SMB makes them every time. Top work guys!
Magnificent re-interpretation. This is what the web and UA-cam are good for... to show such extraordinary things as these to those who haven´t LIVED IT before. I remember singing Thaxted in our community choir and, although I didn't care too much for the victorian lyrics, the music is incredibly overwhelming when sang.
I've been waiting for this for years. Jupiter is my favourite classical piece. Now it's here. Love it so much same as any other video. Thank you so much SMB and congratulations for 2M subs. The special was awesome. Made my day. Greetings from Czech Republic. Have a nice day. Vojta

superb. i once tried to convert the full orchestral score to a piano roll type program but there was no way of transposing the instruments what were tuned to a different key to the main key. What i love about Jupiter is that the music so fits the planet itself and not just its astrological character. The churning, ever changing cloud patterns and storms, but also our great protector in the middle section. In fact most of the pieces fit nicely with the physical nature of the planets, even Uranus and Neptune, which little was known about in Holst's time. Only Mars and Venus should be the other way round. Mars is actually peaceful and serene, Venus is a hellhole.
I played this tune in middle school band and I remember it being a fun thing to play. You guys should do Charm by Kevin Puts, I think you would like it
