    Thanks for this video! last year we had a fair in our school which I won a game and received a baby chick, she later died thou :( I feeded her some gravy and bread and of course water but she didn't survive. Now I am an owner of a hamster. I found out that they had nearly similar cage setup from their bedding and foods, so probably next school year, I'll win a chick again and provide it with a good life with a good food and bedding :)

    Great video. I live in hawaii and obtained a few strays in my yard since so many chickens roam free. While its beautiful to see, the large stray cat population often kill the mothers and leave orphans to be raised by locals. This helped me as i was raised on a farm but never did this on my own. Again great content!

    This video was very helpful. I’ve had baby chicks before when I used to live in the country. I’m in hope to have this experience while I’m in uni since a cat & dog deposit are expensive. Can’t wait! Also, can a regular lamp be used as a heating lamp like a desk lamp or will I need a heating lamp and should the chicks be kept in a small cage if I’m living in an apt? Thanks again!

    • @57Vlada

      Hi, so glad you decided to get baby chicks and yes you may use a regular lamp if you don't have a heating lamp....Just make sure to keep it safe as they could catch a fire if placed near flamable material.

    Hi, I'll be adopting two baby chicks and I'll be keeping them in my house for about two weeks, And when they sleep at night should I leave the light on or off? (They are now 1 week old, almost 2 weeks by the time I get them)
    And I'll also have to transport them to my dad's farm in Canberra, (which is a 3 hour drive) Are there any trips to transporting them in a car? Would they get stressed? Should I get a portable heat-lamp or turn the heater on in the car? (It's winter in Australia now)
    When I keep them in Canberra I'll probably have to keep them in a shed outside, but it should be a little warmer in the shed but not as warm as the house, but it gets down to 35-25, (Fahrenheit) 0 - -4 (Celsius) at night, Would a shed be okay if they had a heat lamp? or should I keep them inside the house?
    And how old should they be to go outside in a pen? I'm kind of worried about that because Winters in Canberra are very cold and the cold season lasts from (May to September) It can get down to 16 or 15 (Fahrenheit) if we have a very cold night, but the average is around 40-24 (Fahrenheit) So should I wait until spring or until they are fully grown?
    Thanks, and sorry for the large amount of Questions c:

      Use the light on one side. This way, you can leave it on and if the chicks get to hot there is a cooler side :)

      Hi Max...regarding your first questions - yes, do keep the light on over night, regarding the transportation just make sure chicks have water and little bit of food during the transportation. Well ventilated box is another good thing to consider.

    • @57Vlada
      @57Vlada  9 років тому +68

      +Mark Seto (SSunnudagurr) Hi Mark, I understand how this may look wrong but think of it as this: egg yolk in not an embryo, it is only energy sack for the baby chick. Giving them egg yolks is like giving them perfect starter energy.

      +Angie Nichols Hi Angie, thank you for your feedback. I can understand why some may feel this is wrong. If it helps at all, while I do give baby chicks egg yolk first few days of their life I do not continue it into their adulthood. Hens, which grew out of these chicks, did not bother the eggs why produced.....I am sharing this only as a reference for anyone who is looking into raising chickens.....Regards!

      Kiana Fox Hi Kiana, I know how you may feel. But think of yolk only as a energy storage, yolk is not really a baby chick but a storage of food from which chick embryo would feed if eggs were fertilized. Yolk is great food for baby chicks during first few days of their life...Like mothers milk for a baby. I hope this helps honey...Thank you for writing to us and for watching...Love, Vlada

    Hi Angie Rivera, thank you for wring and sharing your struggles. You chick must not be felling well! Chicks seek company so raising single chick must be hard. Is there any possibility you could get another chick to keep this one company? Other things to consider are warmth, proper food and maybe some supplements.
