Idk why but most of my favorite ships in Star Wars are the troop transports. I always think it's cool when they fly into the middle of a battle and drop in troops with all their guns firing then fly out
The U-Wing's hyperdrive makes it much more useful for guerrilla warfare, as the Rebellion (especially early-on) didn't have many capitol ships. The LAAT needed to carried by full-sized ships to get from system to system, which is fine for a galactic superpower, but wouldn't serve the Rebels nearly as well, as it could only be used during full-scale deployments.
Overall, I think the two craft are perfect for their respective factions. the clones get the ground support gunship that needs support from other ships to be used effectively (such as fighters and carriers) whereas the U-wing is much more independent, able to travel into space and enter light-speed making it perfect for rebel cells

The U-Wing has an incredibly narrow profile...that makes a gigantic difference in combat. It does the LAAT no good if it cannot accurately hit the U-Wing when engaging an air-to-air duel.
In my opinion the U-Wing is tougher than the LAAT solely on its purpose: It is a high speed blockade runner type ship that is to troops to a landing zone as fast as possible and alive. That being said it is expected to encounter fighters and capital ships while making the mad run to drop troops and then support them. While the LAAT only expects to face ground forces which let's face it has very little chance of hitting a moving target (Turbo Laser Turret meme) and the smaller units that hit it does not do enough damage to it.
Loved the video, I love both transports. Also I would like the see the AT-XT republic walker vs the empire AT-ST. I know that the AT-XT was the prototype of the AT-ST during the clone wars but was quite the sight to see and play with in the old Star Wars clone wars game. As for the AT-ST being the successor, it would be quite the fight to see prototype vs successor.
Something you missed is that TIE variants are noted as having particularly powerful laser cannons, so the TIE Striker taking down the U-Wing isn't as damning towards the U-Wing's durability.
Red Dino-Kn1ght I'd say it's probably an even fight as the Pelican is more maneuverable than the LAAT so it could easily get around it and attack. (especially if it's the post Covenant war model of Pelicans which came equipped with a Spartan Laser turret.) The Bubble Turrets from the LAAT could probably hit the Pelican good and take it down with a few hits.
I think that the two ships can’t really compare because there were in two different eras with different needs. The u wing was well fit for the resistance, who fought with quick ships that had to be shielded because of their lack of pilots, so they needed to have heavy duty ships which had hyper drives and shields. The galactic republic, like the galactic empire, fought with giant ships and turbo lasers, therefore not needing hyper drives on their ships as they have motherships. The laat, as it’s name suggests was for low atmospheric troop drop offs, while u wing were shown in rogue one to not even need any ships and travel to multiple planets. So, I think that the two ships were amazing in their era and therefore cannot be compared.
Defender can wreck 7/10. The Tri-Fighter is unshielded and less armed than the Defender, and its main advantage is in speed and maneuverability, plus those super-annoying buzz droids which may not even work on shielded ships.
I think it worth noting how vulnerable Republic vessels were to the ion cannon of that CIS dreadnaught. I think, with the combined maneuverability of the U-wing and the total lack of shielding on the LAAT, a single straif from that ion cannon would disrupt systems enough to give the U-wing a strong edge. We also saw how accurate that ion cannon is when they pummeled that walker's knee.
Big difference between a dreadnaught grade ion cannon especially one as large and massive as that one. And a pintle mounted infantry weapon which I might add LAAT/i's were impervious to small arms fire and they were shielded. The U-Wing can't even approach the LAAT from any direction either without getting shot at.
And again my ideas are: Terminus-class destroyer vs. Acclamator-class assault ship Darth Malgus vs. Darth Vader and Top 5 assassin droids If there are any questions I am ready to answer them
It's like an AH-6 Apache Gunship Vs. a UH-60 Black Hawk (with more guns of course). Forgive if I got the model number wrong on the Black Hawk, by the way.
CSO-class supercarrier vs Executor-class Star Dreadnought Executor or Eclipse-class dreadnought Im probably not the only one who what to know about this massive space fight.
You got this one wrong. Think about it, the U-Wing is much faster so all it has to do is speed up and circle around to charge the LAAT head on. The U-Wing bolsters it's front deflector shields (which the LAAT doesn't have) while unleashing a volley of gunfire and all it has to do is get one hit on the cockpit and the LAAT will go down due to being without a pilot. That weak spot negates any other advantages the LAAT has. It's rare that a non-shielded ship can take down one with shields, especially in this case when the U-Wing has such a speed advantage.
The U-Wing does have a speed advantage, but it's not SUPER DUPER faster than the LAAT. Plus the LAAT can fire 360* (thanks to the lasers), so even while the U-Wing is circling the LAAT, it would still take heavy fire
Like in WW2 - the fighters were lighter, less durable and had less guns than bombers, but they had speed advantage and were usually just picking bombers out of the sky. With minimal losses too. My money is on the U-wing because speed!
I would like to mention that the TIE Striker is equipped with heavy laser cannons. This is because of your comment about the U-wing was seemingly taken down by "a couple of shots from a TIE Striker". This is nothing negative about the video but I just wanted to point this out
when you were talking about that x wing taking down the at act you forgot to mention how the x wing also used a ion torpedo as well not just its primary weaponry
I want to see a video about The Killiks VS the Trade Federation. Dart Ships and Nest Ships VS Vulture droids and Lucrehulk-class battleship. As well as Killik Troops VS Battle Droids.
In my opinion the LAATs, as they are represented in the movie, were actually shielded, but that this detail, for some obscure reason, wasn't included in the technical manuals. You can make a pretty convicing case for that assumption simply by paying close attention to the visuals. In the arena rescue scene, you can clearly see impact of blaster fire all over the hull of the ships, none of them leaving any mark, but when they finally land (and supposedly lower their shields to permit the passage of troopers) the same blaster bolts create wide, visible scorches. Same deal with the chase of Dooku. The gunship is destroy at the instant it disembark Anakin and Obi-wan despite having been shot at for the past five minutes without any significant damage. During the battle, you also can see a LAAT being violentely rocked by a flak burst directly under its wing but remain totally undamaged. There's also the fact that when one of them is destroyed, shortly after by a direct hit, the energy of the blast seems to spread all over the ship hull instead of simply blowing it up in half like it would be supposed to (reference to the LAAT of Anakin anObi-wan).
So if the U-wing's weapons were upgraded, say an swiveling laser turret above or below the reactor on the rear, would that be enough to make it more formidable? Especially a quad laser turret a la the Falcon, where the turret(s) are controlled by the co-pilot or an astromech?
technically the "missile launchers" on the LAAT gunship are mass driver cannons, that are on AT-TE, which means they can fire almost any kind of missile and high power plasma bolt that most tanks in star wars use.
Great that you put those two massiv Gunship/Transports against each other! But you miss some Informations about the U-Wing (or they were not avaibel since this video is over 4 years old) The U-Wing can be controlled by 2 Pilots and up to 2 Doorgunners for supporting fire Weapon: the 2 Lasers of the U-Wing are very strong, strong enought to penetrate an Arquitens-class light cruiser, and the door gunners could change the doorweapon for whatever they needed (i would chose some rapid fire anti personal Lasercanons) Shielding of the U-Wing : Chempat deflector shield generator (don't know if this is a very good one) In my opinion the LAAT has the better weapons but the weaker defence because it' kind of a flying rock. The U-Wing is more Mobile and faster and can take on ore two shots cause of its shield. In Combat i think this would be a close one, if the LAAT is abel to lock on the U-Wing and fire a rocked than it mostly will win, but if the U-Wing can use its mobility and land a good shot the LAAT instantly will go down. I love your Videos and to think over the possible outcomes. I would like if you could make video about your opinion why the LAAT was not used by the MEpire or at least by the rebels after the clone wars since it is such a good Gunship.
One thing I hate is that I would love to see the TIE Hunter be in a Versus Video, but there's not that much information on it to actually use it in a video.

Sounds like a fair assessment. Though it would have been nice if the U-Wing were better armed.
Yes, LAAT! But could you make it against the Droidgunship next, please?
Why do you only compare the fighting ability of this two transporters? You don't even mention how much troops they could carry. I think you forgot half the match-up...
well thought out argument 👍
how about the ectzectuder class super star destroyer vs the reguvinater class star destoyer
