Cats are chill. I think most people find them disagreeable because they respond badly to being over stimulated and harassed - you gotta let your cat love you when it doesn't feel stressed out by you constantly going after it! If you treat your cat right they'll be the sweetest cuddly little critters. Just like a dog treated right will be a bouncy playful thing. Basically most people don't treat cats correctly (they treat them like dogs and expect them to love constant contact) and so think they're unfriendly or aggressive but they just need time out!!
They're more of an introverted best friend. If they're treating you poorly, that's because you're treating them poorly. Dogs love you because they have no choice but to. You need to earn your bond with a cat, and treat them with respect if you wish for some in return.
GreninjaSexParty dogs reflect their owners quite well if you tell at a dog it will bark loudly and growl. if you harm it it will become more hostile towards many things.
Once had a cat named Batman who thought he was a dog. He legit would fight and play with the dogs, trot over like a dog when you called his name, would have a go at the postman, do tricks like give the paw and sit and roll over and even chased cats in the neighbourhood howling at them as he went. Just imagine that nightmare for the other cats on the street, for all intents and purposes it was a dog that was as razorblade sharp as another cat and could chase you up a tree. I miss the bastard. He was a big boy too. I miss the bastard.
You know you're right. I've never actually seen it written only ever heard it said. And I pride myself on proper use of the English language too. Cheers.
They should have Sally talk a bit about how some worm parasites will rid a human host of their allergies at only the small cost of some reduced iron in the blood (which is easily replaced in Western diets).
Christian Garcia I think they are still called parasites, both parties gain from the relationship, but only one needs the other to live. I could be wrong, just speculating.
I'm glad Chris still recognizes that cats love us despite being a dog person. No, their love is not food or reward driven. My cats greet us at the door when we get home. One of them cuddles on us literally all day whether or not she has a full bowl of food. Always purring and rolling around. The second cat is less cuddly but will still meow happily and roll over if approached and loves scratches. If a cat doesn't act affectionate towards you, you simply didn't raise it with enough love. (Sad but true). I've always heard that cats treat humans more like their mamas. Kittens will kneed, purr, and cuddle their mothers. But not actively towards other cats especially at adult age. Yet adult cats will do that to their humans. Toxoplasmosis is only somewhat common in outdoor cats. If you have indoor cats it will never be an issue. Although the parasite can possibly cause minor health issues, there is no known affect on the human brain or our behaviors. "Cat ladies" are usually a type of hoarder (the need to harbor lots of things for no logical reason).. those types of people can (and sometimes do) hoard other types of animals such as dogs, etc.
Got really excited when they started talking about Toxoplasmosis because I'm all about that. About half the human population is infected at any given time, so good luck sleeping.
For some reason it wouldn't send to the email you gave so: You know how when it is cold outside you can see your breath and other things that are warmer than the temperature is outside. My question is can there be the same affect for hotter outside temperature (ex. 70, 80, 90, degree F) not counting smoke from a fire, which is a completely different process.
My brother-in-law had a cat in intense heat which would never leave him alone. He called and asked his dad what he should do, and his dad JOKINGLY told him to "finish it off with a pencil eraser." The cat never left his side after that...
You show a cat an unfamiliar cat and it hisses and groans and tries to fight it ... you show a cat an unfamiliar human and it lays in your lap or purrs around you
Dogs hump to show dominance to other dogs; they might not even hump that other dog. We once had a neutered male dog that NEVER humped, EXCEPT when one specific person came over. Documentaries I've seen suggest that dogs and cats domesticated themselves; tameness (willingness to tolerate the presence of people) is the trait that created wolves - look up the Ukrainian fox taming experiment. Cats are only half-tame because they don't NEED to be fully tame for us to like/love/keep them while they take advantage of us tending to them. Also cat meows hit the same frequency in human brains as babies crying so we have an instinct level desire to appease them. For the girl with the cat problem, she might want to assess her own behavior around her cat(s) - don't make sudden movements, don't be heavy-handed, walk softly (don't heel stomp), etc.
That spore that infects ants actually comes in a wide variety that each have their own species of bug to infect. I think it was something like over 300 different forms of this spore. They talk about it on BBC's Planet Earth. It's kinda neat.
I'm pretty sure my cat loves me. She doesn't seem to know her name but she jumps on my lap and snugggles me whenever I slap my leg, its like calling a dog.
Cats absolutely love us. No doubt. They are social creatures who have ways of showing you that they trust you and that they care for you. Just because they don’t show it in the same mannerisms a dog uses doesn’t mean they don’t love you. For example, a cat sitting in the same room as you with their back turned to you napping? They trust you so much. They are sharing space with you, and trusting you to watch their back while they sleep, like, WHAT? They come up for a cuddle and purr? They love you. They are such loving creatures if you have the patience and can get them to open up and trust you.
Chris never change your shirt, wash it and stuff but slowly have it look dingier and dingier like you only wear that one because it will drive people insane haha
I left a comment on the Roosterteeth website about that and Chris responded with "They wanted me to change shirts but I liked that one. I even brought it back to film the next day."
lol Cats. Chris' cat's name haha True..cats are strange. Although my cat is especially strange, he acts like my brothers already weird dog who he grew up with. :P Both are huge suck ups, and it's great (the cat was originally my brothers but he couldn't have him when he moved out, so now he's mine). So soft and fluffy...same for the dog. The big attention hogging butt :P Protecting the thing that killed it....whaat the heck haha
I don't think cats think we're cats, I think they show us affection the only way they know how. The same thing I don't think dogs think we're dogs. I feel like animals know the difference, they just don't have a level of communication and understanding that humans do.
If you take the perspective of an outsider watching cat-human relations the conclusion that 'cats think humans are weird cats' is just as reasonable as 'humans think cats are weird babies'.
Parasitic worms freak me out. I can't watch anything showing video of them, so I've had to avert my eyes through many an episode of Monsters Inside Me.
cats in heat get really really friendly and if you pet one long enough it will inevitably stick its ass in your face same thing as dogs humping things plus, any time your cat is sitting in the same room as you it considers that bonding, kind of like you sitting with your family watching tv. Cats will follow you from room to room and sit in that room to chill with you.
I've had a cat hump my leg because we left it to late to desex him. they dig their claws in. its rare but it can happen. cats can do things that you only think dogs would do.
I've never had trouble training any cat that our family has had o: They wont usually do tricks or anything but if my cats walk up to me and lick my arm I know they want to be on my lap or I'm petting them wrong. I've trained them to come over and fetch things or how to 'ask' to be picked up. Cats just need more space than dogs and if you're all over cats constantly and not giving them space you'll stress them out :( Probably the biggest thing thats a lot harder with training cats is I had to wear oven mitts and long sleeves so I could teach them that scratching and biting wouldnt get them what they wanted. Otherwise our cats have always been really loving and affectionate but less needy than our dogs O: Although I miss having dogs so much....
So here's my question, why do some cats live in prides, and some don't? I've seen lots about how lions are really the only cats with social groups. But I've also seen documentaries and what-not that show feral cats living in what is effectively a pride. So what's up?
I've read about a theory that because humans take care of all their needs, domesticated cats essentially never actually mature, rather continuing behavior patterns that wild cats only exhibit while very young. Perhaps it ties in to that...they have no need to join a "pride" because they're still being taken care of by their "parents". Whereas feral cats are actually forced to mature and thus start exhibiting their natural behaviors again, including forming prides where possible. Just a guess.
Yeah. Maybe. But feral cats don't always pride either. I guess that's the question I was really trying to ask. The trend I've noticed (anecdotal, not empirical) is that they tend to go pretty solo in suburban areas, but group together in the cities and rural areas (more predominantly in rural). Even that trend is shaky.
Where has Sally gotten her credentials? I'm just curious, I showed this to my friend and he was just asking how we could confirm she knows what she saying lol
She is currently pursuing a PhD in Biology in Oxford University (if I remember correctly, might be Cambridge), so she should have some publications by now. Just put her name in researchgate, google scholar or an other academic search engine. That should help you find what you are looking for, I think.
There is a simple explanation between dogs and cats... we live in a cat world and dogs live in our world. Meaning our lives should revolve around cats but in dogs case they revolve around us.
At 5:10 I own a Labrador and I can tell you Sally is right on the money with the "Labradors are greedy little things"
just today my lab stole half a cheesecake and slice of toast.
she's 15 and has turned into a fat old lady. She never used to steal food but she's on a diet and I think the temptation was too much for her XD
12:01 the way sally laughing in this situation is a little bit terrifying 😅
Good I love this format

They're that hard-to-please girlfriend type. No thanks.
Not really lmao??
They're more of an introverted best friend. If they're treating you poorly, that's because you're treating them poorly. Dogs love you because they have no choice but to. You need to earn your bond with a cat, and treat them with respect if you wish for some in return.

Hans yeah! they're just hypersensitive introverts!

lol, it stuck out 'cause I used to say it the same way
as I'm watching this my cat curls up on my lap and purrs up storm
I for one, welcome our new insect overlords…
I just love when Sally gets excited about science
They should have Sally talk a bit about how some worm parasites will rid a human host of their allergies at only the small cost of some reduced iron in the blood (which is easily replaced in Western diets).
Mitchell Drew because it's neat. parasites with a seemingly symbiotic relationship with its host is very rare.
Christian Garcia I think they are still called parasites, both parties gain from the relationship, but only one needs the other to live.
I could be wrong, just speculating.
I love Sally's face when Chris says something stupid lol
WHAT IS THIS SHOW!!??? Just the thought of a whole show with Chris commenting on anything is amazing.
I actually really like this show. Hope it gains traction with the community so we get more seasons.
I love this series! Such a great mix of real science and entertainment
I now have nightmares... They wont go away.
This is why I love Sally so much.
the way sally is all happy makes me happy too :) she just seems like a happy person ya know
I love this so much I just really wish it was longer.
Sally just inspired at least two more horror franchises.
I was able to train my cat to do anything she wants to do.
I'm glad Chris still recognizes that cats love us despite being a dog person. No, their love is not food or reward driven. My cats greet us at the door when we get home. well looks like we have someone infected here
( Ps keep calm I'm just kidding)
Did you know, if no food sources are available, a cat will wait 2 days before eating their dead owner, but a dog will wait at least 1-2 weeks.
as soon as I saw this in my sub box and heard the question I thought about the RTAS where Gus talks about that cat that came back and died :p
I'm glad there are other people who get as excited as i do over parasites, even in y lectures i'm considered weird
more and longer spot of science plz
Can this show please be longer?
my boyfriend's parents had a cat named "Duck" >.
wow plants and animals always surpise me with how they evolve
Got really excited when they started talking about Toxoplasmosis because I'm all about that.
About half the human population is infected at any given time, so good luck sleeping.
I do find parasites fascinating as well, yet am repulsed by them everytime I learn something new about them
For some reason it wouldn't send to the email you gave so:

Recently scientist has discovered a dark abyss where cats' hearts should be. WHY WONT THEY LOVE ME?!
They got rid of the advert. It's easier to watch but i hope this doesn't mean this show ceases to be economically viable.
hi i would like to ask why is it that any time you guys talk about a body part I imidiatly notice it and feel like there is something wrong with it ?
I swear nature is far scarier than any horror movie.
Make this show longer please lol
You show a cat an unfamiliar cat and it hisses and groans and tries to fight it ... you show a cat an unfamiliar human and it lays in your lap or purrs around you
thanks Sally, now I lost my appetite.*puts down sandwich
I think I need to watch some of those videos about those parasites. It sounds pretty cool (and creepy)
"have you had cats gus"
flashback to the cat rtaa

So Tom & Jerry is a documentary series about toxoplasmosis?
can you guys make 'a spot of science' longer or some kind of special ? I love the show but I'm always bummed out it's only 12-15 minutes
I really hope that Sally will be on an episode of Always Open someday.
still rockin' the same shirt i see

you can never ever ever ever cancel the show
best one yet!
It's over Anakin! I have the high ground!
Just went on a two hour long kick of watching rabies and parasite videos, thanks Sally! I'm going to have nightmares :)
Turkey Grasslesnatch sameeeeee
Am i the only one who have a huge crush on Sally?
123Jokkmokk123 Beautiful, intelligent, hot accent
123Jokkmokk123 if you don't have a crush on her you are not human.
chris is the only one who never changes shirts
I'm pretty sure my cat loves me. She doesn't seem to know her name but she jumps on my lap and snugggles me whenever I slap my leg, its like calling a dog.
What I got from this is that the world is scary and must burn with fire XD

Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.
my fav parasite is Cymothoa exigua, it eats a fish's tongue then 'replaces' the tongue with itself!
love this spot
Am I the only one who thought this was on the spot?......*walks away quietly*
Parasites?
Words that kill?
Nanomachines?
Metal Gear!?!?!?!
I love this show!!!
Chris wearing that shirt has become a meme.
"Do you have a cat?" Science!
Chris never change your shirt, wash it and stuff but slowly have it look dingier and dingier like you only wear that one because it will drive people insane haha
Parasites! Ooooooooohh! Their coming to get you! Hahahaha!
Seriously, though, their so interesting even though they're the stuff of nightmares.
Oh my god Chris, change your shirt.
They record a bunch of episodes in a row and release them periodically, because Sally doesn't live in Austin
I'm aware, but literally every episode he's dressed like Ness.
George Rogers Weren't there any smart people in Austin?
Apparently not
I left a comment on the Roosterteeth website about that and Chris responded with "They wanted me to change shirts but I liked that one. I even brought it back to film the next day."
Next time i watch this, i make sure not to be eating something.
I feel like cuddling with a xenomorph.
Hasn't seen a spot of Science in a long time and I regret it. I'm just not a fan of parasites and things bursting out a bodies
lol Cats. Chris' cat's name haha True..cats are strange. Gavin knows a lot on cats in heat
how fast does the earth have to spin to negate gravity...please answer gus

Well. Time to go have nightmares
Chris, we need to talk.
We know you have an obsession with bees but please,
CHANGE YO COTTAMN SHIRT!!
I am the Senate
Not yet.
It's treason then...
IainFoley Foley It does look like you have two Penguin henchmen so it vey much could be the case.

I've never heard anyone say that labradors are intelligent.
IKR. They're trainable, not intelligent.
TheLeroy1981 Yeah. Compared to actually intelligent dogs like Border Collies, they're dumbasses. There's a difference between trainable and smart.
Smaller dog breeds are said to be smarter, if I recall correctly.
you're joking right? labs are renowned for exactly that trait
Ivan Ingram You sure? I've never heard someone call a lab smart. Trainable, yes. Good at their job, yes. Smart? No.
Why does Chris wear the same clothes in EVERY. SINGLE. A SPOT OF SCIENCE?
Does Chris wear the same shirt every episode
not the best hing to watch while having dinner
i was eating when they started started talking about insect parasites X(
Where has Sally gotten her credentials? I'm just curious, I showed this to my friend and he was just asking how we could confirm she knows what she saying lol

hellsjester31 Awesome! Thank you very much :)
If cats dont differentiate between humans and cats then why are they meowing? Don't they use it almost exclusively to communicate with humans?
synbow yeah we're pretty deaf to them.
do fish feel pain?
was the parasite crazy in egypt?
