Dutch King and Queen see Dutch Masters in Atlanta

At the High Museum of Art, the Royal Couple is given a tour of the exhibition 'Dutch Art in a Global Age'. This exhibition features more than 100 paintings, prints, maps and decorative works of art from the 17th and first half of the 18th century by the most important Dutch artists of that period, including Rembrandt, Jacob van Ruisdael and Frans Hals. A reception will then take place in the same museum, during which they will speak with American companies active in the Netherlands and important local partners. King Willem-Alexander will give a speech during the reception.

Actually, the Dutch Master paintings the King and Queen were viewing are in the permanent collection of the art museum of Boston, Massachusetts, in the US. The Boston museum lent these paintings to the Atlanta, Georgia, museum for a special exhibit. Most major American museums have large collections of Dutch art, including Old Master paintings that haven't been seen in the Netherlands in more than 100 years. I live in Kansas City. The museum here owns dozens of Dutch Old Master paintings as well as four van Gogh paintings and one very rare Hieronymus Bosch painting.

Dat WA de economische belangen over zee behartigt (ondermeer bezoek aan een overslagbedrijf en tentoonstelling van Nederlandse kunst) is prima, maar ik heb geen idee wat (om maar iets te noemen) een straatwandeling en een dansje in de stad Savannah, een bezoek aan het Martin L. King Center in Atlanta en een rondleiding in een onderzoekslaboratorium naar de malariamug, daar mee te maken heeft ? Het zogenoemde werkbezoek krijgt hierdoor wel erg het karakter van een toeristisch uitje.
