I own the actual arcade game (race driving) and can see why this would translate poorly to a console. no force feedback steering.. When we have get together it's one of the more played games of the 15 I have, as it takes some real skill to master, and when playing against others (comparing times) its very fun. Sadly even the arcade game frame rate is pretty poor, but its still quite fun.
That’s impressive. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the arcade version of this anywhere in the UK. Even Hard Drivin’ wasn’t particularly common as it was an expensive machine.
This series (drivin’) loses nearly ALL its appeal when transferred to home consoles. The whole appeal was to kids in the arcade. It was like driving a REAL car! A steering wheel, pedals, a shifter- and you even get to start the car with a key!!! Just like dad does!!!! Once home- BORING.
I had a lot of fun with it on the Gamecube collection that included the arcade version. Tha was around the time of me playing NFS Most Wanted and I still enjoyed Race Drivin'.
Great Video, I was that sucker that had to have both, and still do. I happen to love both games so I guess it is good. I was going to tell you to hit one of the cows if you didn't do it in this video, good stuff there. Sidenote in todays gaming market what do you think they would have charged for that DLC, becasue that is what race drivin is.
Race Drivin' really is just DLC isn't it? If it was Polyphony doing it for Gran Turismo we'd get it for free, and three extra cars (probably virtually identical to what we already had) every month for five years until they finally replaced the game. If it was EA they'd sell you a new version every year with no difference to the previous version except making the cars this year's model.
And we liked it!
I rented it a few times.
So the old drivin' games have 'phantom photons' as the ghost cars? I wondered where rush 2049 got the term from.

You’re right. It lost more in translation to the consoles then most arcade machines….except possibly the Afterburner full motion rig!
@@ToughMonkey Yeah the GC port even had the cutch set to a button!
@@ToughMonkey Ohhhhhhhhhhhh yeah now THAT was THE premiere arcade experience!!
Is it just me, or is the frame rate much better?
It’s possibly better overall, but that possibly emphasises the dramatic slowdown on the loop and the twist.
I loved the games years ago, but I'd actually forgotten how bad they were! Ah, nostalgia, it ain't what is used to be....
Sometimes things can be best left as a memory. But I wouldn’t be much of a retro gamer if I did that!
@@ToughMonkey Haha, good point dude!
Probably the best versions for the bedroom gamer.
It was pretty decent to be fair. It missed having the arcade cabinet but it was as good as it got for the home I reckon.
My Genesis is overclocked lol This game is great that way but not on stock clocks lol
