I am looking into getting a laser cutter and I have a few questions. What is a good starting laser cutter for someone who is just getting into it? I would be liking to cut pieces about 1 foot by 1 foot. Also do you have to by these programs to use them or are they free to download? One last question what do you do after you save the design file if you have a video of what to do to actually cut it could you send me the link?
ecsyntric yes, you can use Inkscape which is a free vector programme. But, you can get adobe illustrator cs2 for free which I think is better than Inkscape.
Really nice video mate.. I have gone to some places where people work with this machine but i m thinking while they do multiple pairs of designs how to set margins and distance in between them so lazer cut exactly
Nice video. I was a bit surprised when you mentioned the "main two programs for laser cutting" and it did not include AutoCAD (the hands down industry standard) or Corel Draw (I don't like it ... but a LOT of people use it).
Hey connor. I am new to laser cutting. My college professor gave us a project about it. Can you explain why the words are flipped? Please reply. I need something done. Great video though
Great video. Would you be up for doing some graphic design work for me? I have a project I want to get ready to laser cut. Probably a four hour project in total. Working on two .3 mil business cards. What is your rate?
Great video. I am a novice and it told me exactly what I wanted to know - how to differentiate between cuts and etchings. Nice tip about making the outside a different color so you can choose to cut it last.
Hello! I want to sell my art on etsy for laser cutting. When I save it as DXF do i need to choose "Export selected art only" or not? Or maybe I need to make my artboard fit to artwork bounds? thanks and sorry for my english :)
Hey Man So I need to do an wood inlay where the wood pieces have to fit perfectly. How do I compensate for the thickness of the laser ? Described in another way. The laser should be cutting on the outside of the line and not the very line, because then the pieces will be to small. I hope you understand.
I don't compensate for the laser thickness. If your laser operator is competent you shouldn't really have a problem! If your laser is out of focus you will get a thicker cut line though. :)
The laser does indeed have a thickness, its called kerf. The actual thickness varies with depth of cut, because the laser point is infact a cone. as an example ive measaured my laser at 0.2mm, so if you cut a rectangle then cut another 0.2mm smaller, they should fit exactly. then you can start shaving off hundredths of mm to get a really tight fit. ive made wooden boxes with really hard snap fit, that after a while i tried pulling the walls apart and the box broke, not the join, then realized that some types of wood give off a resin when cut, then combined with really tight fit formed a glued bond.!!
AARO LEV 100% the laser does have a thickness. It's removing some material, that material must have a width. However in my experience, I've never made allowances for the laser thickness and I've never had a problem with it. Also for beginners I reckon it'd be just another factor to take into account. When they can live without it and then take it into account when they're more experienced. :)
FPVREVIEWS 20 seconds in I say the program I'm using and give an alternative. There's a big windows flag on the desktop, maybe that will help with OS, but if not, I'm using windows 10. But the software works on Mac as well.
Thank you, helped a lot

That's usually done in your laser control software after you've created your design.
Connor Plant thanks for ur info..

Fair comment, if I did it again that'd be a good edit. :)

I think he intended to cut a transparent medium

Just replied to your email!
very detailed plans for that I found on Stodoys.

nice video. thamk you!
do you design work? I'm looking for someone to design me some bits for my laser cutter but i'm so not tech
flynn harrison yeah I can do. Send me an email at Connorp6@hotmail.co.uk
Simple ... to the point ... understandable... thanks mate!
Hello. Can u tell me what program did you use?
+Tiffany Avilan Blanco It's Adobe Illustrator CC. :) It's expensive but good!
I think you can get the older version (CS2) for free though!

Yeah, kind a find that out.
Thanks for your feedback

A really tight fit eliminated the glue/clamping time when making a fair number of repeat boxes, so depends whats being made and how many
Plans from stodoys sites have different difficulties, but everyone will find something for themselves.
are u from hull

starts the video by not telling us what program it is or what OS.

Pretty obvious he is using Illustrator
