    Hey Tom, first off I am a woodworker and I want to thank you for the information on Woodrow. Second I have spent the last four months in the hospital with covid,being diagnosed with cancer and heart problems. After learning how to walk and getting my muscles back in order am ready to make sawdust again. But now after watching your stained glass videos you have inspired me incorporate this into my woodwork. Thank you very much. Keep the videos coming. GOD BLESS. ROBERT

      Hi Robert, I am very sorry to hear about the rough past 4 months. I am glad to hear you are ready to make some sawdust again. Comments like yours are very helpful and encouraging. My goal is to keep making videos which I hope will lead me into a quicker retirement from my current full time job. I'd much rather be building things :-) Best wishes, and feel free to send me some pictures of what you are making. Tom

    I went looking for some stained glass videos today for the first time in a while. (I have been interested in doing things stained glass for a long time) I watched your video, and very much enjoyed your straight-forward, informative, and visual approach. After that, I was eager to watch the next one, you said would be put out a week after this one, talking about sealing your work.
    I clicked to see when this video had been uploaded so I could find your video that way.
    Imagine my surprise when I found out this video was only 30 minutes old!
    Ok, so I subscribed! Yay! Thanks for this video. I look forward to checking out more of your work/content! 😀

      Thanks for the feedback. That was great timing. I try to put out a weekly video. They are not all about stained glass making but you still may find them interesting. I do have a few others on my channel here: ua-cam.com/play/PLrb30Zy6QqbuZbb9hFZYlvtN29fiwlwl4.html
      This week I will finish the panel and post it next Sunday. Tom

    I certainly could have done with you in my workshop this week mate - I tried, very unsuccessfully, to cut some glass panes for a table top protector. Hoo boy, did that ruin my day. You make it look so easy! That looks super already but I'm looking forward to seeing it all complete. Cheers mate.

      I nice glass cutter is the key. Thicker glass is also challenging. How thick was the glass you were trying to cut?

    Tom, you're a wiz and quite an artist! I enjoyed watching you do this stained glass panel. I'm looking forward to watching the next episode. This must be how my dad felt waiting for the next episode of Zorro or Dick Tracy at the movie theater, pure excitement!

      Can't be as exciting as Zorro but thanks :-)

    Thank you!! I just made and am still working on along 71 inch by 17 inch window,I’m adding lead came to it today as my frame, then turning and soldering around the back side. It’s my first window but made it with copper tape and lead came. I really love your window and instructions!

    • @AlleyPicked
      @AlleyPicked  3 роки тому

      Is the window going into a solid frame? I'm not sure that the lead came frame will be supportive enough. I thought they normally use zinc channel on the outside of something that large. I once used 1/4 zinc on a free hanging window and after a couple years, it started to sag in the middle.

    That's cool! I've never seen anyone solder as they go on a lead panel, but it makes sense because all those little pieces flip & flop around, might pop out of place, which can be aggravating, even if they are nailed in place! Lol. Anyway, really nice video! 👍

      Thanks for the feedback! I guess when I figure out things on my own, I come up with some unconventional ways to do things. It made sense to me and I'm glad it worked out.

    That's how I started out - using a picture to make a pattern. In my case it was a Google image of the window in the house where I first lived many years ago. Actually, it is from the house next door which faced a side street and accessible by Google imaging, but the adjoining house had the same window design as ours. I was just making it as a panel, so the sizing was whatever I wanted it to be.

      Hi. Sorry. I do not have a pattern. As I stated in the video, I made the panel from a picture and it took some careful planning to get to to come out right. Thanks for watching.

    What size lead came did you use?

    • @AlleyPicked
      @AlleyPicked  3 місяці тому +1

      I measured it today. It looks like 3/16" but When I put a caliper on it, it was .205". In metric it measured 5.3mm. I hope that helps.

    As a beginner it would have been great if you had slowed down this process considerably taking it step by step, from how to create the pattern in photoshop/adobe, to printing to size and even choosing your colours. How do you actually go about choosing colours for your project which i take it you do in adobe. What about those who rather do this manually? Which is the best option for a beginner? Then choosing your lead. What made you decide on the different size lead you chose? There's also building your iig and to the correct size. etc. These are the basics.

      It's always difficult to strike that balance between too much detail that nobody cares about and detail that is helpful to a beginner. I do have a playlist of stained glass videos you can check out: ua-cam.com/play/PLrb30Zy6QqbuZbb9hFZYlvtN29fiwlwl4.html
      If you do have any other questions I can try to answer as I am able. Tom

    what? you lost me at 3 minutes. Not a great way of explaining the size of black line compensation when using pattern scissors. You would literally not print out that huge picture as a guide because you use it for nothing more than a visual reference of which colors go where, lol. You print it out but arent comfortable cutting your glass from it. Why use it? You explain nothing of how you measure glass from the pattern which it literally the title of your video lmao. You couldve just made a video showing how to resize an image in photoshop because thats the only technical information you give in this video. Nothing about lead core size or any of the info youd actually need to create a project like that without getting measurments wayyyyyyyy off
