    Perfect. My Dad made 2 windows 20 years ago for our house which I've now moved twice. My problem is my new house needs 4 windows and we lost Dad 2 years ago so now I'm going to make them using the skills I learned from him with a little help from this video. Thanks!

    Straight lines are so much easier, I chose a piece with a lot of curves for my 2 project, just need to lead and solder it now, I might try one window with the beveled pieces, they look pretty, not too expensive.

    Someone tell the camera operator to do close ups. The instructor and camera operator are not working together. Close ups and slow your pace down, work together.Lots of information, unfortunately missing a lot of close ups of whats being demonstrated.

    Nice video very informative. I just have a quick question in regards to working with lead. Is there any risk of getting lead poisoning? For example using that saw to cut the lead to size, I noticed you're not wearing a respirator and there is no vacuum on the saw. Are you not concerned about lead particulates in the air? Also handling the lead without any gloves is a little concerning to me.
    What if you have young children or the grandkids are over wouldnt that be especially dangerous for them?
    If anybody has any information about health risks and this Hobby please comment.
    I still want to do it though. Lol

    Is liquid flux contamination a thing for home use , I guess your flux gets used up pretty quickly in a factory environment , I'm doing a bit each week so should I pour a little into small container such as a soda bottle lid then toss it at the end of my session or is that just wasting perfectly good materials for the sake of being pedantic

    • @torip9365
      @torip9365 7 років тому

      That is the perfect way to do it! Just pour out a bit at a time so none is wasted. As a college student with not much spare cash, it is, in my opinion, the best way to get the most out of a bottle of flux.

    Ok I’m looking to this as maybe a new hobby . I have been a window repair man at the Iowa state fairgrounds for 20 years I’ve probably cut and replaced a square acre of glass in my time of working maintenance. But isn’t cutting lead with a saw making lead dust and isn’t lead dust like deadly to breath eat touch or get on your skin ? Cutting with a knife I can see being safe but cutting with a saw a huge no no ! Not trying to be safety sally and I’m sure I’ve breathed stuff from the fairgrounds that’s 150 years old from grinding cutting scraping but no way I can not say something about lead dust from a saw ! I know I’ve cut leaded glass and crystal to make matching stuff and it came with skulls 💀 and cross bones 🦴 on it !

    Seems like you missed a few steps.,like soldering the other side of the panel ,wiping the flux off the panel to prevent tarnish, applying cement to seal the panel and make the lead go black and the polishing at the end to make a shiny protected finished panel that does not rattle.. This would take a hobbyist at least an hour . Maybe make a more comprehensive tutorial and less of the you can buy stuff.

  • @colbrittle6456
    @colbrittle6456 5 років тому

    sorry but this is not a professional video. Putty should never be used for grouting a leaded panel. It is too soft and allows movement. A proper leaded light cement is essential
