@@yaboyashton1426 Yes, of course there is a mix of people in every group. I'd be curious to know how many Mormons graduate from other universities vs those who don't go on to college at all.
Re the 15 million, most Mormons are lapsed. Only 2 - 4 million are practicing believers. The information age is proving more and more deadly to Mormonism.
Still, even if you accepted my 2-4 million figure, which I don't expect, the graduates from BYU and the Idaho campus, including not just current attendees, but all attendees since the schools were first established, would still be a small percentage against several million.
The way cults value education (or fear it) is fascinating to me. LDS gives its highest admiration to students who attend their private universities. At least, that's what I perceive. Jehovah's Witnesses actively discourage all college for their adherents, so very few go on to college and remain JWs. I can't even tell what is going on with Scientology. They isolate school children much earlier, so I can't even get college-specific information from Google.
      I'm enjoying talking to you.

@@angryarmadillogaming7863 Ooof. "Largely excludes outsiders" does not equate to having NO friends outside the group. By "insular," I am saying Mormons don't take much interest in cultures, beliefs, and people outside of their own homogenous milieu. What I observe is closer to your phrase, "Just because people don’t go outside of the church...."
It's great that Mormon's invite others to join them, and, yes, they are very kind and welcoming. When my grandma was in her 90s, her Mormon neighbors kept checking in on her, and I would never doubt the good hearts. Kindness is a hallmark of Mormons.
On the flip side, when a member of one's own family leaves the church, ostracizing happens often enough that I would call it commonplace. That's a cult thing.
When missionaries go out to preach, they are kept in a highly controlled environment, told not to be separated from their companion except for using the bathroom, limited to what they can read, told not to watch TV and so on. That's a cult thing, keeping an iron grip on their experiences and their access to outside information.
And how many converts does a missionary generally make? A handful to none -- over two years of doing nothing BUT trying to convince people to join up. Almost all new members have to be born into the system and indoctrinated from birth for the beliefs to seem to make sense. And they have to spend a lifetime living with believers and staying away from widely available facts.
Yes, I know Mormons get good educations and that, of necessity, the majority of education is outside of the BYU system. My questions were about various percentages, and I know you would answer my questions if you could, or if I was clearer. I appreciate your efforts and your kindness. Best wishes.

I spent the first 15 years of my life in the church and my family decided to leave as my parents realized the true nature of the church. As I got older, especially as I entered young women’s, I started seeing basic flaws in the church’s logic and teachings and I also got really upset with the conservative standards put on young women and men. As I voiced my concerns to my parents, they started realizing the same things and more in the structure and ideology of the church and we eventually decided to leave and no longer attend the Mormon church. I am so glad that we have left because my days are much happier now that I don’t have to fit oppressive standards put on women. The rest of my relatives on both sides are still decidedly lds and I have started feeling bad for their young kids growing up in that environment and I want to help them in any way I can. What started me was when my bishop did a Q&A for a youth activity. Two of the questions were about the racist implications of the "curse of Caine" and the priesthood ban on African American members. The curse part, I knew about but never really thought about. But that was the first time I heard about the priesthood ban.
So after that, I started looking closer at the actions of the Mormon church. Since this was around when they were protesting gay marriage rights and put that one rule about the homosexual parents, as well as being when I started to realize I was trans, my faith quickly faded.
I started to realize that even if the Book of Mormon was true, there was no way this church I was in truly knew and talked to God. Cause I was told my whole life that he was so loving, but here his supposed church was doing really hateful things in his name. I didn't even learn about all the BS in the Bible, Book of Mormon, and the history of Mormonism till half a decade after I left!

My dear friend who is very progressive converted to the church for her now ex husband at 21 or so. They married in the temple, wore the underwear, and everything.
He abused her and cheated on her and I suspect sabotaged her birth control to get her pregnant immediately after they got married. The church helped her with her deposits to get a new apartment and even helped her move out. They’ve been supportive of her so she’s leaned in. She has left to other LDS churches due to what leadership has said about queer people and vaccines. She speaks out when she hears social injustices in the church. I’m a life long atheist and I wish she was a pastor because she truly is so good. (She once told me Bernie Sanders didn’t stand up for trans people enough and wished he was more progressive.)
But like I still wish you’d come up in her feed to open her eyes.
I’m very open with her about my opinions on organized religion. We spoke about things like the City Creek Center in Salt Lake and she genuinely didn’t know how much wealth the LDS church controlled and how they gained it.
I just don’t want her to be abused by the church too when she is so so good.

The thing that really blows my mind, is that if the Mormonism that existed when Joseph Smith was leading it were Mormonism today, like exactly the way it was in JS time?,?,?, OMGosh!!!!! I don’t know anyone that would be running to join his group!!! The history is there, the facts are all there, so why are former Mormons mixed up, sad or whatever? The modern-day Mormon faith that I was raised in and that many were raised in is like being raised in is like a Walt Disney movie. It’s so lovely and so beautiful and so good because people from birth are trained to believe that we have to be involved in all these activities and be “Boy Scouted to adhere to endless servitude and rules to the point that we don’t even recognize the real world of simple Christianity at all!! According to Jesus, we are supposed to be in the world representing him the way he lived. He loved everyone. He hung out with the prostitutes and the drunks and the infirm and diseased, and loved them and taught them, no matter how much the Mormons say they do the same things they really don’t. They are in a unique, cookie cutter, perfectionistic world of their own, and when you’re raised in that yes, everything else looks ugly and weird until you realize that the sterile, Walt Disney World, that they’re all trying to live in again, it’s not the true world that Christ wants you to exist in. He is our savior our true example. He’s the only one. There is no other. He took all the sins of the world to save us. There’s nothing, repeat nothing we can do to earn favor with Christ, other than honoring him and praising him! We are zip unless we put HiM, not deeds first! The Mormon church mutated over and over again until it came to what it is today and it’s consistently changing with the wind in the ways of the world, not that some of those changes are a bad thing. No, they’re not bad what’s bad is that they keep thinking that they’re going to convince us that, they’re not following politics, but they totally are! They always have since after Joseph Smith. They have changed with the times. Christ changes not!! Thank you for your time. I have never felt so normal or so close to the Lord as I have since I left the LDS church. I feel so bad that, many people who leave have such a terrible time of it. Cling to Jesus, have faith, repent regularly, and trust in his powerhouse of simple love, and you will find your way. Much love & Merry Christmas.

The absolute oppression of the strict gender roles placed on men in *most* fundamentalist faiths, to be sole providers, decision makers, spiritual leaders - the backbones of their families - while also being prohibited from expressing stress, weakness, or big emotions that can come with big responsibility... is one of many reasons that the sort of gender equality in our communities and gender equity and balanced work sharing in our domestic partnerships *should be* important to feminism in its purist form. Rigid and oppressive gender roles are so damaging and destructive to both men, women, families, and communities.

Most woman who leave keep going back because the world they were brought up in to be a “woman” in , does not value the same things Mormons value and the family model is near unattainable to the expectation of a Mormon woman without marrying another Mormon. What anties don't seem to realize is that we are here on this earth to be tested and prove our commitment to improving our spirituality. Some people can't handle that, feeling that it is easier and more fun to live the ways of the world, so they give up and give in to their fallen nature and turn their back on what has been put on earth, by God to help them. Then they try to encourage others to do the same to try to justify their choices Call it devil missionary work. Misery loves company. Choices have consequences.

Whelp, he's VERY fortunate to have you, No joke.
Not all guys are lucky to have a gal listen to them especially in a relationship and keep things comparatively respectful. I've seen staunch devoted Women listen in to their Man or BF and then turn it around to destroy their life for weak faith or use their vulnerability as an emotional hook/ or emotional hold over to entrap them into a sort of Salvation Projector or relational blackmail.
(The Woman would hold his secrets over his head to get the relation as to how they want it and completely destroy the Guy's will and confidence in life)
I myself have been petrified to find a Gal from the faith, even to have some similar cultural parallel to relate to.
Mormon/LDS Gals often go beyond that personal boundary (because Mormonism/LDS doesn't teach boundaries nor do they support the understanding boundaries). The common behavior for LDS Gals is to rummage in areas that they shouldn't/ don't have consent and they believe they are the qualified individual to 'Save' someone when often they have no business getting involved or tampering with very sensitive things.
That usually occurs if the Guy doesn't pass their extensive mile long worthy 'list', or the Gal likes the Guy, but believes that she is the holy one to 'hollow and scrape' out a guys sanity and life and re-decorate it into their ideal model of worthy and holy.
If it's not that then they are going back to their parents and either exaggerating Gossip to gain a sense of self importance through torturing their Guy through harmful/gossip channels to exploit him and his life further, or that Gal is getting domineering tips from their emotionally harmful parents to dig into someone or to sideline the Guy and dig into his self worth even further, and to eventually turn him over to Leadership when the Gal or her family is done with him so they can win Leader favor for their emotional extortion or go up a rung in their social community.
Depending on the Area in Utah County/ SLC some LDS parents even teach their daughter to marry into the social stature or money.
-If she ever gets dissatisfied, she can always take 50% of all his assets and finances. I've seen a lot of gentle/meek guys work their damnedest to create a financial pool to start a family, then the gal screws them over or only staid in the relationship until they cashed out. That sort of thing destroys guys lives and their whole grasp on reality/sanity.
-If there is little money, but the guy is of High stature. She can claim off her dissatisfaction in consensual coitus to claim he r*ped her and blackmail him or to get some sort of exchange on her parents part + save her own face from being lowered in her purity-perfection community.
    or
She can turn the relationship into a power scheme to win more stature/power for her family, or for herself on social media- blowing everything out of proportion while the guy who's naïve and inexperienced is helpless, outcast by his circle and lost when he's just a young inexperienced RM.
From my own experience... (1st Gal close with) Was there for the meal ticket, (2nd Gal close with) was a subversive gold digger/ 2 faced Emotional Sadist, (3rd Gal) Saw me as her Save Project and was very emotionally arrogant with her self-righteousness/made a mess of life exposing things to her circle. No reciprocity whatsoever, she just inserted herself in people's life like a statement of 'right'. She had a very sheltered way of life with no adventure, just church. (4th Gal) Wanted to have a white baby (5th Gal ) Wanted to have a white baby (6th Gal) Her community almost killed her because she was dating someone Non-white (She was literally stalked, she and her family received death threats). All the while when I was active, I took everything personally on the measure of my own spirituality, felt cursed, and went through near Kidney Failure (a part of Anorexia and Mission -radiation water long term effect) + Anorexia. Got over it after self-destructive behavior, self re-invention, done with dating LDS Women. Was a dream once upon a time ago when I was younger, but a save on sanity + low drama life is more important. Besides don't have to cater to 'pulling teeth' to do something fun or go on an adventure.
The Xenophobic dissatisfaction of quite a few LDS Men/Women are ridiculous (Yes these are adults). They don't want to go to Pow-wows, cultural explorations, anywhere that isn't LDS intensive. They sit in the car and brood or complain like a grump and try to ruin your day. Camping can even be just as bad. They love talking smack about other cultures/ be in some superiority binge to reaffirm their self righteousness.

Let me tell you something about how God operates. No where in the bible can you fine one example where God allowed a church, bishop, teacher or anyone else to decide who can be saved or who will be lost.Salvation is between you and Jesus.About all religions including the LDS use threats like were the true church and our church is all god will accept or if you give up on our truth you will GO TO HELL. Its a ploy to keep you in the loop so they can use you and your money and time. Jesus was saving long before the LDS was thought of and he doesn't need them to save your eternal soul. The very premise of JS restoring the gospel is false because the Gospel never ended in the first place and when JS tried to restore the gospel it looked absolutely nothing like what Jesus instituted on the day of pentecost.Look at their teaching of blacks being inferior to whites,or the book of Abraham,or the indians were of hebrew linage which has been proven absolutely false . The American Indians have the same DNA as the chinese and not hebrews. JS said he spoke reformed Egyptian, there is and never was any such thing.JS said the garden of eden was in Missouri and Missouri was where creation started and his craziness goes on and on and still millions of LDS can't connect the two dots.I guess brainwashing is pretty powerful.

@@nanaadwoaofori7882 I typically don't like 'airing my laundry' on public posts as it makes you look like an incompetent bafoon, but as 'normality', behaviorally acceptances, and image is so paramount to the church... anyone outside of its 2 dimensions are either patronized and diminished with the church's idiotic platitudes (preached like absolutes) or cast out as being ungrateful (when the church leaders are really saving image with themselves and trying to high road a member when they don't have the answers and/or they can't get past their own wall of encumbance). Even if one concedes to live within the church's political defines of behaviors in a relation one would either need to divorce themselves and live in some odd stance of isolation in a relation - entertaining the notion of their peers; or to just be as shallow, 2dimensioned, and sheltered as them to believe one can only be saved. It's complete garbage. An antithesis to growing and living.
I'm just more curious as to why Cara was so open, unless it is within her own personality and personal growth.
      In stricter orthodoxy of Mormonism...
The environment is overly stifling, over controlled, and rigid.
A woman to show her personality is seen as being childish, frivolous. A woman strong in her personality is seen more as an accessory or cause of rebellion. Even a woman with confidence is seen as contentious with her male counterpart, as she is reduced to follow in the confidence of her husband as a total baby maker.
The status of following dogma and church behavioral dogma is nearly the only grace a woman can have place or to be somewhat heard. Women can be heard more, but only in the track and reinforcement of her own life influenced by her male peers. Usually a woman leader in the church is not a strong matriarch, and she's just a strong suckup, or in a strong fantasy of delusion with her own personal incompetence in superstition mirroring the esteem of her male peers/ leaders.
Someone who is white can get off with more leniency to live a more liberal but still adherent life. Someone of color not fitting in LDS reality gets harassed more being fit into whatever whacked caste system is in play or the authoritative bastards take it out on the one you have favor in. It's a nightmare of idiot proportions. Someone who is white and sees the disparagement of prejudice often don't understand what's going on and so they join in, instigate the escalation, and default into the 'winning' side by default of authority. Church has most of their following of weak minded, low constitution betas.
I believed that this church and society had grown out of their cave(I was a 6th gen in the church), but over the years of frustration, politics, and seeing their theories of right in play...they are still in the cave.
The church claims that a woman is more free now, but that's total BS. She's only free in the shelter of mind she's provided by her society and the attention she is given... Like a caged animal only given freedom if she preforms from the strings that are pulling her.
Had Cara been an adherent to the Orthodoxy of the faith, she would've been emotionally compelled to rat out her fiance and report him for being weak in priesthood/faith; sought for societal justice instigating weakness in her fiance to move up her social rung; or to take it upon herself to 'save' him / all the while perceive his weakness as a blemish or curse that she would need to bear. It may sound childish, but everyone is competing for their own societal status and the superiority of their status; to believe that is what spirituality and holiness is. It overall is just a very ugly ignorant-inducing, politically indoctrinated environment. There is no genuine sincerity, even that is overplayed or a ploy.
As per LDS women, I have tried several times to break one out or to find a woman free from her entangled strings. The church just favors building women extremely weak with petty ego expectations, and with severe attachments to their strings. It's a mess too complex to get into - Simply put it's a system designed by fragile ego Men, and tortured pathetic or low IQ fringe Women.
The over posturing to make up the conformity is entangled with years of complicating one's purpose, emotional balance, neglect, status, and personal gains attention. Individuals tend to be more indoctrinated to live in routines and habits, than they are to have a mastery over their own life and mind.
My post would irritate an LDS member as being weak of faith, too rebellious against a leader, or too over critical.
Just glad I was more inquisitive to study on the dynamics of other ethnic groups up front, to give me some sort of reference point to understand my own. As per staying in LDS, it was educational to watch and observe, but alot of it is a waste of sanity and time.

I don't talk about Mormonism. I had Mormon neighbors. I studied Walter Martin's take in his book, "The Kingdom of the Cults." I know that Joseph Smith, his brother, and his Father, used hats to look into to divine knowledge: The future, where to drill a well, whatever. He later used the same trick coming up with the Book of Mormon. I suspect if you subjected it and other books to modern forensics, it would be proven to be plagiarized from the Bible.
I know that Joseph Smith's story of the tribes of Israel coming to America by canoe matches perfectly to a fictional book published years before. Does anyone know the name of that book?
Someone calculated the weight of the gold tablets Joseph Smith carried home, said they would have weighed about 350 pounds.
I hear people talk about Mormonism as being a Christian denomination. Mormonism is no more Christian than the Muslim religion. A lot of Mormonism is about power, power over people, over outsiders, financial power to control.
I heard recently-possibly from you-about a Masonic Right connection. (I never 7se the "Freemason" term, because the free masons are gone. They were eradicated from earth, the masonry guild that allowed them to travel freely throughout the Feudal Roman Empire, renamed the Holy Roman Empire, the Catholic Church. That too is a cult. They aren't even Christians, but Babylonian pagans.
Even today, all our Internal Revenue taxes, not a dime spent on our country, the Vatican gets their cut first, then the City of London, the Illuminati state within a state presided over by Rothschild & Co.
Finally the Mayflower gets what is left, the,
"...oligarchy which will keep it friendly to (them)," as explained in Niccola Machiavelli's,
