Love this minimalist structure. Their use of the height of the space is very wise. The baltic birch plywood as both a surface and structural element is pretty cool too. The chair/bench design is my favorite. Thanks for sharing these inspirational stories. Your kids are sure getting to expand their world view. I love that you bring them along for these adventures.
Very nice modern cabin in the woods. Love the well thought out furnishings. Nice to see a father/son architectural team experimenting and enjoying this lovely space and also sharing with family and friends.
SOoooo grateful for all the amazing videos you produce, Kirsten and Co. (family). I thank you!! I could watch all day long, every day. I never get tired of looking at houses ... at the extraordinary variety of shelters we build for ourselves. And all the ideas, the input, the love. Wow. ...and all the work YOU do, to bring them to us. ...Wow!
I love this cabin and I love the multi-purpose furniture designed for it...such an economical and clever way to furnish a small space. This father and son team is formidable!
I ,ve watched many such films, rarely do they contain the thinking process behind each and every decision required for a Excellent home. Chair/Bench is screaming produce and sell me in flat pack. I wish both of you success.Thank you.
Such a well considered living space. Low tech and high tech enough adaptive cleverness to geek out about, attuned to it's environment, and pared right back to the essentials. Well done- masterpiece.
This video really has a lot of good info. From finding a place with minimal zoning and many things I would want in housing me. This video portraying this cabin meets many of my needs and is a favorite of mine. Thank you for finding all these locations and for doing what you do.
As a carpenter myself, i can really appreciate design and workmanship. There must be 1000 man hours here along with 10x the expense of a conventional build, but the imagination of design comes from a true artist. Bravo
Yes! I’m echoing others but this video is such a treat. In an era of 20 second instagram videos, how wonderful to really linger in this cabin. So much brilliance in the architecture also. Thanks and keep them coming!
The details are appreciated. Many tiny house videos skip any kind of helpful measurements, let alone the thinking process. It's all brilliant and beautiful.
Man is it ever cold up there. I grew up in northern Michigan but I don't know if I could take it anymore. I'm glad to see these people are more hardy than I am and that they have built something very nice
I’m from the US but don’t know much about Wisconsin. I love how matter of fact these guys are, how inventive, how obviously they appreciate nature, design, art, and family. I don’t know if everyone is like that up in WI, or just these guys, but definitely very cool!
From this brief video I could sense the bond the both of you share. It must have been a blast growing up with your Dad. I really can't tell if he's trying to be funny, but he's got the timing of a comedian.
Can easily make up a couple nice n comfy cushions for the benches at the table for his wife. 😉 both of these buildings are amazing! Looks like a great location too!
Eduardo Rodriguezarias They're definitely 'of this world'. They're a standard design called alternating tread stairs. Very common in boat building and in lofts. They should really have used thicker ply for these, they flex quite badly when the son walks up them.
I've watched a LOT of tiny house videos, and this has to be the most ingenious design I've ever seen! PS - We live in a house 4X bigger than this cabin, and we only have 1 sink (period, just one kitchen sink, no sink in bathroom), and (a-HEM) we live here. Full time.
It's modern in a lot of ways, but rustic in many ways as well. Very smart designs, cool concepts, and those sliding doors are perfect! It would be interesting to spend a week in winter. Only thing I miss is some sort of fireplace.
What an amazing home! Thank you for making this video. I am so impressed by the thought, hard work and long-term vision that went into your home. Do you build for others?
Of course these builders are not horses : this cabin is not a stable ! Great work, from conception to the end result. Great sense of detail. Thanks for posting. BTW Excellent videos too : excellent camera work for architecture and relationship with environment and focus on details, while people are still in the video. Not as easy as it seems.
I toured this the year it was at MREA. I fell in love with this place and had wanted to buy it. I still remember the asking price (or at least close) to what they wanted back then.
Thank you for posting this video!!! I was searching for good footage of this house just yesterday, I don't believe what I'm watching!!! Suggestion: Please put EDGE in the title, because people search for it that way.
I am very impressed by this well thought out and planed minimalistic buld. Very fonctional and certainly not missing any of the essentials! Congratulations. as time and effort are here well recogned of. Wood is immortal and being surrounded by such butyfull scenery is uncompromising.
I quite like the unique leaf prints in the foundation. I think that it is clear that this is not intended to be used during the winter season as the cisterns and external down piping would freeze. Winter preparation is thus required.
I really like this. I am planning to do a two step build with a first smaller easy to build structure to be build for me to live while the bigger one is coming up so it can be perfected and doesn't have to be rushed, with the smaller one being later "repurposed" as guest house. I think think is a perfect source of inspiration for the smaller one
The first two minutes... (paraphrased)... Everywhere I looked, nobody was telling what I could, or couldn't, do. FINALLY! I found a place where I had to ask permission. Whew. YAY!
so funny i saw the lead impressions earlier in the video and was wondering if it was purposeful, turns out yes and no lol this is an impressive build, really interesting

So much thinking and engineering genius came into this place. I love how precise yet simple it looks from outsiders. I enjoyed watching the story.

I have definitely seen this cabin in pictures hundreds of times. It is great to here the owners/builders talk about this iconic house.
I love this cabin and I love the multi-purpose furniture designed for it...such an economical and clever way to furnish a small space. This father and son team is formidable!
beautiful functional cabin. it's not overdone with "transforming" bits that will never be used, and the spacing is very well thought out.
I LOVE the concrete floor with the leaf imprints!
Wow! Amazing detail! I'd have missed that. Thank you for mentioning it. Beautiful.
dear kirsten lovely, thank you for showing this. and dear daniel and bill, what a lovely way to have a home.
I ,ve watched many such films, rarely do they contain the thinking process behind each and every decision required for a Excellent home. Chair/Bench is screaming produce and sell me in flat pack. I wish both of you success.Thank you.
One of my fave designs for years now.
Such a well considered living space. Low tech and high tech enough adaptive cleverness to geek out about, attuned to it's environment, and pared right back to the essentials. Well done- masterpiece.
If this build was listed on Airbnb, it would be booked most of the year. That's how interesting and relaxing it is.
Was this building shown at the MREA several years ago. Looks familiar...
Hello
This video really has a lot of good info. From finding a place with minimal zoning and many things I would want in housing me. This video portraying this cabin meets many of my needs and is a favorite of mine. Thank you for finding all these locations and for doing what you do.
Father and son projects...always great memories.
this is a lovely build and taller than I thought it would be - thanks so much for sharing
Hands down the best design I've seen. The quality and craftsmanship is second to none. Great job guys!!
let us all take a moment and thank Kirsten and her nomad family for all these years of work
thanks Dirksen family
your work is invaluable
As a carpenter myself, i can really appreciate design and workmanship. There must be 1000 man hours here along with 10x the expense of a conventional build, but the imagination of design comes from a true artist. Bravo
I'm curious what the specific drivers would be for a "10X" multiplier Vs. a conventional build?
Wow! Loved the bench/chair and how so many aspects of the design were multi-purpose...
Wow, phenomenal video, thank you Kirsten and family for this important work.
i love the furniture system, the ceiling, bathroom and kitchen. great job
Kirsten again you have found a great cube to show us! Congrats. And ... what a Dad! And Son who follows. Great pictures. Thank you.
Such a public service, you deserve a million subs and all the support in the world!
Only about 150K more subs needed.
More than 300K clear of the mark now
Just under 1.5 million!
Man is it ever cold up there. I grew up in northern Michigan but I don't know if I could take it anymore. I'm glad to see these people are more hardy than I am and that they have built something very nice
Inspiring build! The creative wheels are turning in my head!
I really like that, the simplicity and clean lines, everything very thought out.
I really like the leaf imprints in the concrete flooring. Visually beautiful.
love the main door design and chair and the print on the floor , as always well done Kirsten

This house was so well thought out. I love it! Thank you for the video.
Thank you, I love how this cabin is simple and close to nature.
From this brief video I could sense the bond the both of you share. It must have been a blast growing up with your Dad. I really can't tell if he's trying to be funny, but he's got the timing of a comedian.
Gentlemen,.. . FLW would be proud of the thought process, your values and the impeccable execution.
Yeah...'confined' in a 12 x 12 x 12 space with huge windows and the great outdoors?...not a problem! Well done!
@Kirsten Dirksen and team, This is awesome and thank you for bringing this to us
These guys are awesome! Great design and execution!
It’s a very beautiful place, so well designed and satisfying!
Can easily make up a couple nice n comfy cushions for the benches at the table for his wife. 😉 both of these buildings are amazing! Looks like a great location too!
those stairs are out of this world. way to think out of the box. you look like a boss.
Eduardo Rodriguezarias They're definitely 'of this world'. They're a standard design called alternating tread stairs. Very common in boat building and in lofts. They should really have used thicker ply for these, they flex quite badly when the son walks up them.
Congrats for all the brilliant yet simple solutions. Very inspirational
Great cabin, people, film. Thank you!

Wow. You seem inordinately proud of that for some reason.
I love the alternating ends of the exterior wood on the corners. Nice touch!
The attention to detail is amazing. I absolutely love everything about this build. Definitely one of the best tiny homes on UA-cam.
The best thing i like is the ladder. Very different design. The wood walls is also unique idea love it!!
The outside/design of the house is beautiful. I love the sliding slates on the big sliding barn door.
These. guys. Wow so so thoughtful and well executed. Super impressive!
Truly a beautiful build. Well thought out. And I adore the leaves in the concrete! If you’re feeling cramped-go outside!
Instant attraction to this cabin..so appealing in a faraway place..a worth it project..⭐
The bench chair. The bed table. The stair ladder. I could go on. Awesome.
Leaves on concrete. I love this house.
I love barn doors the large the slide smoothly and they opening time is 7 feet of space which makes a very easy connection to nature....
Yes Yes Yes! So beautiful and Wisconsin Forest with Lake Superior. Glad this worked out with Zoning too. So Cool!
It's modern in a lot of ways, but rustic in many ways as well. Very smart designs, cool concepts, and those sliding doors are perfect! It would be interesting to spend a week in winter. Only thing I miss is some sort of fireplace.
Fabulous home, wonderful video. Love it!
A table that comes with a classic early 70's tollycraft manufactured in Washington state is very amazing.
what a great house, cabin, simple and yet nice. Thanks for sharing
Fantastic. Art, science, architecture combined
I agree. Great work, Kirsten!
This is one of my favorite homes yet! Very informative & entertaining!
great design. well tought through, thanks for showing us this good example!

McMaster & Carr is any tiny home builder's BEST friend for funky fittings and hardware that you couldn't even imagine.
Excellent work based on good thinking.
great father son project :D
i wish my dad was alive to build something with him like this beatiful cabin ;D
I toured this the year it was at MREA. I fell in love with this place and had wanted to buy it. I still remember the asking price (or at least close) to what they wanted back then.
Excellent drone footage.
Beautiful and well thought out! Well done!
Loving this house. So practical simple and minimalist.
Thank you for posting this video!!! I was searching for good footage of this house just yesterday, I don't believe what I'm watching!!!
Suggestion: Please put EDGE in the title, because people search for it that way.
Those steps are Amazing...thinking way out the Box!
Love interior and exterior. Love cutouts in lofts.
I am very impressed by this well thought out and planed minimalistic buld. Very fonctional and certainly not missing any of the essentials! Congratulations. as time and effort are here well recogned of. Wood is immortal and being surrounded by such butyfull scenery is uncompromising.
A friend (cabinet maker, CNC nerd, and more) sent me this. Luv you're channel; I'm in.
Your
I like this. Very nice and beautiful setting.
Love this build. I could live there 24/7
What a beautiful full small house 👏🏻👏🏻
I quite like the unique leaf prints in the foundation.
I think that it is clear that this is not intended to be used during the winter season as the cisterns and external down piping would freeze. Winter preparation is thus required.
Well done...Peace full. ..Enjoy your moments over there.
absolutely love it, brilliant work of [putting as much intelligent design into it as possible!

Amazing work! Thx for sharing!
Music and nature, what else does a person need?
...food :P
Nice place to *retreat to nature.*
Beautiful little home. I love the idea for the dining, coffee, bed table. Gives me ideas for future wood working projects. Enjoyed a lot.
Very interesting dad. Son will carry on the philosophy, hopefully. Nice building, nicely done video.
love this. great video as always!
Great video! Hopefully everyone enjoys the drone shots!😊
Lovely build, great ideas. Thank you!
