- Introducing Aperture Desk Job - a free playable short made for Valve's new Steam Deck, set in the universe of the modestly popular Portal games. aperturedeskjob.com
Desk Job reimagines the been-there-done-that genre of walking simulators and puts them in the lightning-spanked, endorphin-gorged world of sitting still behind things.
You play as an entry-level nobody on their first day at work- your heart full of hope and your legs full of dreams, eager to climb that corporate ladder. But life's got other plans, and they all involve chairs.
Playable on the Steam Deck, Desk Job walks you through the handheld's controls and features, while not being nearly as boring as that sounds. - Ігри
I like how Aperture Science represents all of Valve technologies
@what now ?
@@Jan12700 ignore them, they're spam
Yes
best way to get people used to controls and and mechanics as well as show that what they're supporting is feasible and ready for gaming. it also gives an example of how to make games for said technologies, Nintendo does this with their consoles.
Black Mesa getting no love :(
I love how Portal is the ip Valve uses whenever they need to make a tech demo for a product
- The Lab
- Aperture Hand Labs
- Moondust
And now this!
And were never getting portal 3!
It's perfect to make a new invention from aperture science, plus everyone loves portal!
well, it started from a school project to show of their skills, that valve then wanted as one of their games.
@@mr_indie_fan at least it didnt end on a cliffhanger
@@mr_indie_fan yeah the game had a pretty good ending, so it makes sense they would'nt be making a sequel.
Such an engaging 30 mins experience. It's actually heart breaking seeing how good Valve still is in making games and engine and yet all they do is those "tech demos" to promote whatever new hardware they have just released in the market.
Trust me when I say this, but if you see how Valve's work structure is like. You might understand why they do that.
Valve's work structure isn't like typical game companies. But it's the matter of freedom to work on any project they so desire without being told to.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised that one developer had to convince 2-5 other coworkers to help on finishing this game. Also, I think 80% of developers mainly focus on patching/updating the Steam client.
@@ZyxieRumor well yeah they own the way a lot of people find and buy games on pc, when they can they make whatever the fuck they want without having to rely on other game studios or publishers, and its clear that they have hope in portal and half life and use any opportunity to revive them
@@ZyxieRumor It's much worse than you make it sound.
They can't continue series because nobody can keep their job. The "flat structure" bullshit is just that, bullshit. There's still a hierarchy, and it's political to a degree you'll never see in a standard company. People are working against each other easily as much as they're working towards a product they can release.
Somebody might get legs on a project and lose half of their team three months in because they start running into some issues, and they start freaking out that they're going to lose their jobs if they don't get on a more stable project that doesn't have any issues.
It's a horrific work environment. Look up some testimonials if you want to hear just how bad. It's incredible that company can even function, and their continued success basically just comes down to having developed a CMS for games that stole the market away (Steam). If GOG or Epic ever started slicing off of that, Valve is going to sink fast.
Nice pfp
Alyx wasn't a tech demo it was a masterpiece.

love to see one of my favorite comedians make his way into a valve game. Valve's ability to find the right voice for the job never ceases to amaze me
I always said that a third portal game would be pointless, because glados is at peace. This seems like a great way to expand the universe
Yeah, there's no point of a sequel to Portal 2. A *prequel* could have potential though. Perhaps one set on the very day that Caroline became GLaDOS.
They can figure it out narrative wise but I think most of the reason people want another Portal game is for Co-op mode, especially like a 3 player mode would be really cool
I wish there was a Portal 3, where you get to play as Doug Rattman, using the lore from the Portal comic, Lab Rat.
Welp, Dough Rattman still a things tho

it's good to see that they aren't stressing themselves to make something revolutionary, cuz frankly that kinda stuff is tough now with so many bright minds having a chance to make anything. It's just a simple game, something rarely made by valve
I wouldn't say rare, more like they just release a small short to demo another platform/ method of play they release publicly which these days has been a bit more frequent than them actually releasing full feature length games

@@WarpScanner They once tried to make Portal in VR, but one of the issues was motion sickness so they scrapped the idea and had the idea of Alyx.

Fairly, the trailer talk style reminds me to firewatch dialogs. That is really good
Only Valve can make a tech demo and casually drop a lore bomb in it
At roughly 0:15, you can see pipes in the back marked with "Gel Flow" arrows. The white color of these arrows indicates these pipes are transporting Conversion Gel. However, the desk shown at 0:17 reveals this takes place in the 1970s area of Aperture Science as indicated by the pre-Moon-rock poisoning portrait of Cave Johnson. This creates a canonical error as Conversion Gel, which is what led to Cave's Moon-rock poisoning, wasn't created at Aperture until the 1980s when he bought 70 million dollars worth of moon rocks.
Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder!
Or it could just be old/outdated
I mean the white arrows dont mean anything thats standard
At 0:17, if you look at the stairs, there's some water damage and a bit of chipping at the stairs. This could also imply it could take place in 1980.. and the broken lights? maybe canon won't hold up in the game, though. Multiverse and all that, LOL
