According to the Nanjing your index finger shouldn't be at LU-9 position. You first put your middle finger at 1 cun below the fishline of your wrist and then you put your index finger and your ring finger next to it. When you do this then you wil see that your index finger wil rest on the styloidproces of the radius bone and not behind it at LU-9. Lu-9 is a space, between 2 bones which is part of the wrist joint. Every pulse position has a yang surface and a yin depth position. The surface yang level is the skin and the depth yin level is at the bone, and so the cun position just like the guan and chi position needs to have a skin and bone level which wil not be the case when you put your index finger at LU-9. An other thing is that the radial artery splits up in 2 after the styloidproces which is called a bifurcation, this is not a spot where you can feel a clear pulse. And at last i want to point at an other chapter in the Nanjing where they describe the depth of the different pulses which is most superficial at the Cun position and guess where this is ? Exactly, this is right on top of the process styloid bone where the distance from bone to skin is very little in compare to spots proximal and distal to this point. So Also in this matter the cun position (HRT and LU position) should be here at the process styloid.
