thank you! I should mention that in my version (CS6), the ctrl-d etc doesn't seem to work. But if you set the default trans as you note here, there's an option under one of the top drop downs for bulk applying the default trans. Thanks for getting me going. You saved me so much time!

Say you wanted to alter the duration of the cross-fade on all transitions. How would you go about that? I painstakingly had to click on each individual transition of about 40 clips and alter the duration manually as I couldn't see an obvious way to do them all at once or highlighted ones etc.

Do one of the following:
Choose Edit > Preferences > Timeline (Win), or Premiere Pro > Preferences > Timeline (macOS).
Click the Effects panel menu button. Choose Set Default Transition Duration.
Change the value for the Video Transition Default Duration or Audio Transition Default Duration, and then click OK.
