I found this video very helpful, been a glass cannon, just reached lvl 150, at daily Ops or even events and constantly dying. Appreciate the share of knowledge! Keep up the work!
got a full set of SS, all with unyielding/AP refresh. Put on the right perk cards and you don't die. And any DR over 300 is meaninless 300, 350, 400, all offer pretty much the same protection at those numbers.
I have a lvl 983 character and one that is now lvl 82. With the kow level ive been having fun with the new civil engineer armour. Not desperately try to get SS. That said i was happy to get my shielded SS underarmor from Minerva.
I think you're being a bit disingenuous. It all about perspective and what you want in a build. Sure, you can perk into damage mitigation and ignore armor values, but the opposite is also true. You can perk more into damage dealing while specifically targeting native armor values/mods/legendary effects. You could take Heavy Leather armor for the native increase in energy resistance and take Barbarian, for instance; or use Chems/Food/Mutations to cover for any deficiencies while keeping your Perks open for more variety.
Intentional or not it's good to see people spreading the word about speed demon's hidden effect. Maybe it'll convince some of our newer wastelanders to get mutated 😅 The positive effects of mutations far outweigh the negatives guys and gals. Now go jump in a puddle of irradiated goo!
@Eikuza Do you have any suggestions in Defensive builds to deal with Ghouls? I struggle with them high lvl due to their stagger and swarm once they close the distance.
@Eikuza because he doesn't understand bloodied, which is only about as much damage as two-shot. The part of the "bloodied" build that is most effective is the unyielding armor.
Armor matters up until a very low point, that's why I'll always say that t65 is on the same level as t60, t51, ect, while hellcat and union are the upper level sets
Just looking for some advice since I’m a returning player, what would you recommend out of the 2 Union or Hellcat and why just curious I have 500 stamps just debating if I should wait for union Power Armor to come out or get the auto axe
Hellcat is great since you get the full set for free after finishing steel reign, the direct ballistic damage mitigation is the main selling point. Union is slightly better given the poison resistance comes in clutch in the newer events. But you need to do a few expeditions to buy it All PA have 35%~ DR/ER damage reduction off the bat, so it's primarily the extra bonuses a detonation gives you that I go with. .@@xxcesar13d4lxx5
If you have seen the practical comparison of power armors, Raider PA beats T-65 tho, like you can get all the damage resistance you like, but it's all about mitigation baby.
Yup I put what rads on and goulish, and other defense perks . When son's of Dane is on just play an instrument and watch the gouls fall down fairly quick.
@@chris5942 Finally got all the plans for Thorn armor from this recent Minerva for my unarmed character. Expected to be rerolling for months getting a great set together... and got 4x Uny with 2x AP Refresh/Poison Resist in about 30 rolls lmao. At least daily ops poison won't bother me much anymore!
You need to learn how to make a proper build. I do expeditions and most everything solo full health and or bloodied and never die. So cry harder or learn how to play the game
I swapped out my unyielding arctic marine set for a full set of overeaters secret service (for a tesla build), and I did not feel any stronger despite the 30% damage reduction, and much higher resistances. So I switched back after a few days. This game's damage reduction metrics are so weird and messy
Its because health of players dont change as they lvl or anything which means enemy damage doesnt change a whole lot. I did a test the last few days on it( on my youtube community) which confirmed that for every piece of gear you have on around 50 resisance Equals 2 less damage from an enimies firearms. Ironclad is the same, equals 2 damage reduction. There is also a minimum damage cap of about 2 damage ( an enemy can not do less than 2 damage). Power armors 7% reduction pretty well brings you to this cap.
Unyielding is mainly helping you crit more often (every other shot), leveling up quicker with intelligence, give more ap, sneak better and maybe carry weight. It does nothing for physical defence.
To any new players watching this click bait titled video, your armour most certainly does matter. Like this video does show, you CAN get yourself a build with perks (that rely entirely on using only vampires weapons) that make it less crucial to have good armour, but if you'd rather use cards that help you loot things instead of going all in on damage mitigation, there is a night and day difference between say an Excavator and T-65. Even with good tank perks, better armour stats are still going to save you on healing cost, assuming you're not wanting to throw a good chunk of DPS away on vampires. If you're new to the game vampires is a great starter weapon, but once you've got your build sorted, move to Aristocrats, Anti-Armour, Junkies or the ever popular Bloodied. Oddly one of the larger tank armour rolls I don't think was mentioned in this video. The Sentinel effect on armour is huge for a tank. In summary, if you can get better resists on your armour, do it and you'll be able to pick more freely from your perk pool so you're not stuck using tank cards you don't need like Blocker or Electric Absorption to make up for your poor armour resists. Nuka Joe, Tank main since beta.
Interesting video. I've been running secret service OE & vanguard mix for a few years now. I want to change it up because I just made my first set of buttrist heavy raider regular armor. I want to run in around in that for a while. I put it on and I almost died instantly because I realized I had some perks that I changed because I was modding weapons and making ammunition... But I didn't get a chance to really try it out with the proper perks. I've been a lazy heavy gunner for a while too. Mostly run around in secret service armor until I come up on a bigger enemy. But I started building an unyielding buttressed heavy raider armor set. This video helps a lot even though I've been playing the game since launch- 😂😂 thanks!

according to the data online the difference in resistances matters and you feel a GREAT impact up to 100 resistance, then its still pretty good until 350 which is the soft cap. From there you barely notice a difference but there is until 500 which is the quasi hard cap at which point you get the most reduction from resistance. The actual hard cap is 1000 but only specialised suits can give you one resistance that high and the difference to 500 isnt that big either. Power armor is a must for tankiness a you get a natural 35% damage reduction + potential 30% more from overeaters bonus. At that point you could go for emergency protocolls fdor another 50% at which point youll take less than 1 damage from most attacks
I think you're missing the point. PA has the same amount of numerical values as other heavy armours and in some cases, less so. You're talking about the built in dmg reduction, which was not what he was talking about.
Good points Wiggle. I've been really enjoying the berserker life lately but tbh i expected it would be a little bit more challenging. The OE level 1 armor is crazy strong, so I'm going to try it as bloodied. I managed to get a bonus unyielding set while rolling the OE. At least then rads will be a risk.
GREAT vid dude. I’ve been trying to argue this in discussion groups for a while but you’ve really effectively demonstrated it here. With PA and energy absorption legendary perk it’s even more insane.
Same here. You will start seeing everyone saying this, but thats really cringe, because I can count on one hand on how many people actually said this. Everyone for years have been saying t65 and secret service are best, and honestly no. The moment we got set bonuses, there went down from being the best. I appreciate that you are one of the few players who stand against the crowd with objective opinions. Well done to you to!
Good vid. My takeaways, vampire is really good at keeping you alive, having high level legendary cards is important to be able to fit a lot of defensive cards.

This was the MOST HELPFUL video for my commando/tank build. I can't run my full VATS build with the cards, but eventually when I max out my character, I should have enough skill points to become an absolute MONSTER 😮
If you wouldn't forget Nerd Rage and would instead have PA with Emergency Protocols (and high res to being with as they do stack on top of percentual dmg reductions) then you would see what low HP can actually tank. Only issue I personally see is that you ofc don't want to run Vampire with low health as primary weapon (it's just something you swap to when you need to top up). However you made me wonder... does Suppressor work with Ricochet? Because if so...
This is definitely helpful, I was looking for ways to increase my DMG resistance looking for better armor. I guess i'll look into leveling up my specials and perks instead lol
I mean... yeah body armor doesn't matter. If you're running a little squishy boy build you will die in PVE. If you are running actual armor... Power armor you will not do any of this DYING nonsense.
Ss busstressed is a must Without it I was getting 1 tap with only fire resistance and max sizzling style .. But with ss busstressed u don't even need any defensive perks...at 400 Dr and 300ish energy resistance.. U also don't want scaly skin as it hurts ur ap unless u want to make serums of waste 3.perk points in luck ...i dont use it I tank well without it versus any boss as a bloody non pa If u have ov pa and using defensive perks u are playing way wrong .....definitely don't use defensive perkss with ov pa...just emergency protocol and no vampire weapon required
Anything above 300 damage resistance is meaningless. Its all how the math is done. Anything above 300 offers almost no added benefit. It levels off. But perk cards and legendary effects make a big difference overall. When you run low health, bloodied build, you lean into a lot of other effects for survival. That lvl 1 armor with 8 damage resistance did great wiuth the right perk cards. Throw in better DR and it would be epic.
Pausing after you said blocker. . . . The amount of times some creation smacked my ass down into oblivion and i am wondering why am i dying so so sooooo quickly, maybe i should try to get blocker lol EDIT EDIT EDIT excuse me what the heck is vampire doing??? Is it only on weapons?
I think an easy way to look at it is a pie chart where the full chart is 100% damage reduction, if all your damage reduction is in perk DR% and not much in armor. then more perk DR is less effective then say, 50 more armor. considering that is radically more then say 0. ideally you want both balanced out. as that's the most effective. since the damage reduction on armor is a curve of diminishing returns, the more armor you have the even less effective it is. so yeah, 300 armor vs 500 armor isn't much in practice, but i can grantee 8 to 300 is a vastly different performance. and then it gets complicated because some things are multiplicitive/additive in various ways. I can tell you with my Unyielding Brotherhood recon set I run silos without bothering on killing ads. I just simply run through. (not sneaked) but it is a balance of both perks and end-game tanky armor.
@@wiggle_plays Thats great... alot dont and the video stated it was being done "as a test and its not really how you would play" then proceeded to show off different cards but never removed Vampire weapon which is obviously going to effect how the build with the last 2 cards work...
True. The final full health loadout is how I normally spec that character. The vampire handmade is one of two guns I carry on that character. The only difference between the video and how I play is that I normally shoot back ;-)
I figured this out a while ago and just decided to give up on full secret service bloody and go back to Heavy combat armor bloody or something of that variety. Game gets boring if you can’t take damage anyways, and nothing in 76 actually ups the scale, you just gotta nerf yourself a few times to actually feel threatened I do this as I know have an explosive anti-armor energized Crusader pistol (I rolled it first try after getting the blueprints from Minerva before upgrading to energy)
It took me 400 lvl to understand how to survive like a god even in low health junkies.... Second character is lvl 51 melee only with only 1 piece of random armor uny, I can farm wastek without even getting down a single time .. the moment you understand how to build is whats the most important you will be able to do anything
Its why I don't use overeaters on my T65, you can survive anything the waste can throw at you with just vanilla T65 so adding more "defense" is dumb, I went with Assassins instead as I love explosives and the only thing that can actually kill you in the waste are other players. I love hunting wanted people or people who try to harass people, I got a 4k bounty recently from a moron that thinks nobody could take his head, free caps
I usually just run ss armour since the jetpack is wonderful and i generally dont have/never had survivability problems, im more running into damage problems over my f76 career.
I see Fallout 76 has many perks that are just better than having good gear interesting 🤔 makes me think Never mind 5:07 the gear with good perks makes you a GOD Wow i maybe will try playing this again Mmmmm
Comparing Aristocrat’s to Overeater’s, regardless of the inherent resistances on the armor itself, is not a very accurate test. Aristocrat’s adds resistance. Overeater’s gives flat damage reduction, which is much stronger. If you’re gonna test something, make it apples to apples.
Something about the fact you actually wasted the mats to make an entire lvl 1 set of unyielding feels upsetting to me, who is still struggling with mats daily. XD I Did like the video though. It was awesome.
Most of my armor is overeaters on most of my characters. Used to have vanguards. One of my alts trying to get full set of covert with chameleon. In excavator PA with the energy absorption, ricochet, vamp, overeaters, and full health I hardly die. The alien invasion events were a breeze. Eviction notice is fairly easy. I still have not tried a low health, just seems like a lot of hassle to me.
I swear my game is broken, I have full fireproof and I still get melted by flame attacks, wearing secret service and hell cat power armor. Ghoulish perk doesn't heal me either with radiation 😂
Your test is flawed, unfortunately. I really like the video, it makes a decent point about some perks but it relies too heavily on using vampire with ricochet specifically against turrets which are just about the best enemy in the game for proccing ricochet and doing low damage. So if your point was that ricochet + vampire is great against turrets then good job. But other than that it doesnt show much of the other perks against enemies that actually hit harder and so wouldnt proc ricochet as much as needed so youd have to rely on other perks and armor more. We kind of see this in the video when the robobrain lays you out. Again, i like the video it makes some good points but turrets are just one specific enemy that hit a lot of times and do a small amount of damage so vampire is insane against them specifically
I just go with the Chinese stealth suit and mutations. It doesn't matter about damage resistance if the enemy can't even hit/detect me in the first place.
@@GaryMiller-r3u Yeah I noticed it too. I don't mind too much because my build is mobile enough to avoid stuff. You can't really steath much during events but at least there's usually several dudes in power armor to tank anyways.
really good advice but really only aplicable for new players. Experienced players and veterans will have a decent build with all he mentioned and at that point getting a better armor is the only thing thats left.
What id like to see tested is overeaters paired against non overeaters with rejuvenated and still have full hunger and thirst meters almost every you tube test I've seen to compare anything with overeaters whatever they test it against they never use rejuvenated. To really see how much difference there is we know there is benefits with full thirst and hunger meters and rejuvenated without overeaters, and yes I know overeaters is still better to have but I don't see anyone test in this way
Thanks for the very informative video wiggle wiggle... Little question... what would nerd rage do in the last test? Make you more tanky or just not much at all ?? As you know I'm always low health and I do use nerd rage on all of them... but is it actually needed?
Nerd Rage would add 20 resist. It probably wouldn't do much. I left it off intentionally though since the point was to have the smallest resist possible.
Mitigation generally gets more value then dr numbers but saying the numbers don’t really matter is one of the most ignorant takes I’ve ever heard. All you have to do is compare your damage on a low armor enemy to a high armor enemy.
I would be curious to see a video about fire or poison damage and to see if resistances like funky duds would be worth it. Because I can feel like a tank until enemies leave a poison field on death in daily ops and I'm running scared.. hah. Good video though!!!

Unyielding is very important armor for bloodied builds
He means the type of armor not the legendary effect
got a full set of SS, all with unyielding/AP refresh.
Maybe it'll convince some of our newer wastelanders to get mutated 😅

I've been playing Bloodied Vampire for years? and I did not know this.
@Eikuza because he doesn't understand bloodied, which is only about as much damage as two-shot. The part of the "bloodied" build that is most effective is the unyielding armor.
@@Cyberbro665 nerfing this but keeping all the other way more OP stuff in? nah
Union power armor is worth getting for the poison resistance. My go to power armors are t-65, union and strangler armor.
Hellcat is great since you get the full set for free after finishing steel reign, the direct ballistic damage mitigation is the main selling point.
Union is slightly better given the poison resistance comes in clutch in the newer events. But you need to do a few expeditions to buy it
All PA have 35%~ DR/ER damage reduction off the bat, so it's primarily the extra bonuses a detonation gives you that I go with.
.@@xxcesar13d4lxx5
If you have seen the practical comparison of power armors, Raider PA beats T-65 tho, like you can get all the damage resistance you like, but it's all about mitigation baby.
T65 has a lot of damage resistance overall

I swapped out my unyielding arctic marine set for a full set of overeaters secret service (for a tesla build), and I did not feel any stronger despite the 30% damage reduction, and much higher resistances. So I switched back after a few days. This game's damage reduction metrics are so weird and messy
Serendipity at low health felt like it might be stronger than Overeater's at Full Health. At least that was my impression when I was doing the vid.
Nuka Joe,
Tank main since beta.

You're talking about the built in dmg reduction, which was not what he was talking about.
fun fact: level 1 or 2 serendipity is all you need

GREAT vid dude. I’ve been trying to argue this in discussion groups for a while but you’ve really effectively demonstrated it here.
With PA and energy absorption legendary perk it’s even more insane.
Same here. You will start seeing everyone saying this, but thats really cringe, because I can count on one hand on how many people actually said this. I appreciate that you are one of the few players who stand against the crowd with objective opinions. Well done to you to!

Ss busstressed is a must
Without it I was getting 1 tap with only fire resistance and max sizzling style ..
But with ss busstressed u don't even need any defensive perks...at 400 Dr and 300ish energy resistance..
U also don't want scaly skin as it hurts ur ap unless u want to make serums of waste 3.perk points in luck ...i dont use it I tank well without it versus any boss as a bloody non pa
If u have ov pa and using defensive perks u are playing way wrong .....definitely don't use defensive perkss with ov pa...just emergency protocol and no vampire weapon required
Pausing after you said blocker. . . . The amount of times some creation smacked my ass down into oblivion and i am wondering why am i dying so so sooooo quickly, maybe i should try to get blocker lol
EDIT EDIT EDIT excuse me what the heck is vampire doing???
At the end you were still using that vampires gun... which in typical use case you most likely wont have on.
I actually use that gun all the time.
The only difference between the video and how I play is that I normally shoot back ;-)
@@wiggle_plays Must would use Quad or something else. Vampire is like maybe 3rd or 4th best out of the other lengendaries. But hey, you do you.
I figured this out a while ago and just decided to give up on full secret service bloody and go back to Heavy combat armor bloody or something of that variety. Game gets boring if you can’t take damage anyways, and nothing in 76 actually ups the scale, you just gotta nerf yourself a few times to actually feel threatened
I do this as I know have an explosive anti-armor energized Crusader pistol (I rolled it first try after getting the blueprints from Minerva before upgrading to energy)
Electric Absorption legendary perk makes you invulnerable in silos and RobCo

Never mind 5:07 the gear with good perks makes you a GOD Wow i maybe will try playing this again Mmmmm
I just run good legendary mods is all, I don’t care what the armor is, I’ve been dropped, and my power armor is still not broken,,,👍
Rad video bro cheers
