    Nice video. The 6db is a huge upgrade over the stock one

    You are going to experience a lot of directional bias with the antenna mounted in that position. Fold over UHF (land mobile) antennas are available. The Comet CA-2X4SR gets good reviews from GMRS operators, and is fold over capable. The roof mount would provide the best 360 signal profile.

    I love Midland radios. I use them for hot air balloon racing between the balloon and the chase trucks and all the handhelds for each crew remember. We have a lot mountain ranges at different races and we have never had any issues with radio communication and we have are only radio frequency which is awesome to have

    I'm sure someone has mentioned it but the MXT115 is repeater capable. There are some (relatively) inexpensive repeater setups available that might help with range if needed.

    I know with CB's you can have a base station with a tall antenna at your shop, is that possible to with the midlands so you can improve range. There is still corn and beans standing down the road if you want to break in the 690. Great video

    • @WernerAg
      @WernerAg  5 років тому

      Yeah I heard a few guys in the area still have some acres of corn and soybeans left especially along 30. Don't think I want to bury our 690 out on that farm on 30 though lol. I'll have to check with Midland on that base station.

      I ended up adding an external speaker to help increase the audio and audio clarity. They sell external speakers on their website and I highly recommend the newer style that they recently came out with.

    My opinion trade combine and heads in on a new grain cart and 40 foot header and 12 row head

    • @WernerAg
      @WernerAg  5 років тому

      Well that would be a good idea if our combine and 8 row corn head was worth more. At this time we'll just trade for a 12 row. Maybe we may go to a bigger draper soon. As for a grain cart for now we will be ok with the size we have but definitely in the near future I would like to go to a Kinze 1100.

      @@WernerAg so in your opinion if I am trying to get get radios for my farm and the furthest I probably need is about 15 miles is it worth a repeater cost or will a radio with the 6db antenna work good enough?

    • @WernerAg

      Yes I believe the 6dB antenna would be effective and efficient enough t ok effective cover the 15 mile range you need for your operation.

    How strong is the cellular in your area? If you have reliable cellular, why not go with radio-over-IP ? You’d not need VHF/UHF radios and everyone working on your farm would have access. Plus you could add new users (say, temp employees) to your system instantly without worrying about radio hardware.
    I’ve setup ES-Chat at my employer’s site to allow comms between me and my site team (we use a 10-talkgroup hardware interface to connect our Motorola MOTOTRBO digital radio system over the net) and this lets me communicate via phone app to my site guys using walkie talkies and my offsite team members on their phone apps.
    This setup would give you instant radio comms to your local equipment vendor which is more effective than 2-way phone.
    Costs are low as the app is $5/month per user, and the system is secure and private. The app even gives you GPS coordinates of each user if you enable that feature.
    Or you could try ROIP for free using the Zello app and upgrade from there if you wanted the extra security and functionality. Or keep it cheap and stay with Zello. Either way will allow you flexibility to talk to anyone on your farm from any location - combine, truck, barn or house. And you can keep your communication live if you change vehicles or location.
    This is moot if your local cellular service is sparse, and I’ve no idea how you are serviced. Some remote areas with poor service would require 2-way radio comms, but maybe you’re able to try ROIP. It’s hassle-free and easily expandable.

    S690 combines burn ten times the fuel of an s670 which can do the same as the 90
