Channel 20 is for repeater gmrs use only. You use simplex so you should be at 14 and below. 15 16 17 18 19 20 and 21 are for repeaters

Yep. And if I was him, Id get either the MXt400 for the tractor and put the 115 in the house. That way he can communicate to the house, using a repeater if he's that far away and if a repeater is in his area. I have both but I put mine in Hardenpower's ammo can and made them portable. The 115 will fit in the Operator setup and the 400 will fit in the Scout G1. A little pricey but nice if you want to take it with you on any tractor/mobile unit.
