I think that Simon wasn't named Peter at that moment. He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter). (John 1:42) Jesus bestowed the name Peter upon Simon when they met first.
Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would directly lead THE CHURCH into all truth, not that the Pope would lead the church into truth and that the Holy Spirit would lead the Pope. Many Popes made declarations that Ecumenical Councils were the highest authority of the church, higher than the Pope, and some Ecumenical Councils did not have the Pope of Rome in attendance.
Peter was never bishop (episcopas, "resident overseer") of Rome. He was apostle to Rome who, along with Paul, founded the church of Rome, but the Apostolic Constitutions say that the first bishop (episcopos) of Rome was Linus who was actually ordained by Paul. The Apostolic Constitutions is generally regarded as being on the level of authority of an ecumenical council. The Roman church went back and added Peter to the list of Bishops of Rome centuries later when they decided that Apostles were "Bishops PLUS" basically that being an Apostle to somewhere entailed being bishop of that place, but Peter was known to have been Bishop of Antioch and it is regarded as non-canonical for a Bishop to be the Bishop of two Patriachates simultaneously, and it would also be in contradiction to the Apostolic Constitutions. Furthermore, since Paul ordained Linus, the line of Bishops in Rome would be Pauline not Petrine. When the Roman Churched revised the line of Apostolic Succession of Rome to put Peter first, and move Linus to a later date, they also included several mistakes in the names of bishops of Rome, such as including "anaCletus" who is not even a person but for a long time they listed Cletus and Anacletus as separate Popes, only to discover that AnaCletus was a prepositional phrase that meant "after Cletus". The word Episcopos and the word Apostolos have diametrically opposing meanings with Apostolos meaning someone who is sent out to a place to start a church and Episcopos meaning someone who is the resident overseer of the diocese. (For a long while the RC church listed Peter, Linus, Cletus, Anacletus, Clement but the actual document that they screwed up with said "Anacletus Clement" which meant "after Cletus, then Clement.) This is all important because the ONLY evidence or argument that Peter was the first bishop of Rome is that the Roman Catholic Church says so, but the Roman Catholic Church only deserves to be believed on its position that Peter was the first Bishop of Rome if PETER ACTUALLY WAS the first bishop of Rome and therefore the Roman Catholic Church deserves to be trusted on making that claim, so in the end, the authority of the Roman Catholic Church has NO external support. The Church of Alexandria actually is Petrine, with Peter being the first Bishop. The Patriarch of Alexandria was also called POPE since he was the prime bishop of an entire continent (Africa) as the Bishop of Rome was the prime bishop of the continent of Europe. Jerusalem was the ancient patriarchate which was first considered to be the center and headquarters of Christianity.

In the case of permitting evil, we are not intending the evil or willing it. The evil occurs as an accident or coincidence. However, committing an evil act requires us to intend / will evil to occur, which is disordered and contrary to our human nature.
When I said “will” earlier, I was referring specifically to active will, not passive. To permit evil is simply to passively will it. However, to desire evil to occur and to positively aim for it is to actively will it. This latter sense is not permissible.

I was formally trained at a university. I took four courses of Ancient Greek: two elementary and two intermediate. That basically puts me at a very basic level, and probably less so after so many years without rigorous practice.
Marian apparitions are not regarded as public revelation (such as Scripture), and therefore the faithful are not bound to believe in them. They are worth consideration, but acceptance of them is not required by the Church.

It’s about both. In Isaiah 22, there is a royal steward who serves the King in the House of David. Obviously Jesus would be the King in any parallel, and Peter is receiving the keys in Matthew 16, so that makes Peter analogous to Eliakim.
The keys represent authority, delegated to Peter especially but also to the Apostles after Jesus ascended. Jesus is practically quoting Isaiah 22:22, which is about Eliakim’s new role as steward, while Jesus is addressing Peter’s new role in his Church. Even Protestant scholars admit this connection. Only extreme contrarians who fear the implications deny it. The intellectually honest thing is to admit it so we can move into a conversation about what Jesus meant by that.

Here Christ was addressing the apostles, not any one apostle and this is the first place in the NT with a transfer of binding and loosing.

You are way over head here pal. I will try to clear it up for you. Peter was NOT the first one to acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, apparently all the people in the boat knew that (Matt 14:33) so nothing special about that. Also Luke 2:26 Simeon saw Jesus as a baby and knew He was the Christ. John 1:41 Andrew found the Christ before Peter. So Peter was not first. Mt 16:18 the catholic denomination's misinterpretation is easily destroyed by the common sense fact that ALL CHRISTIANS are rocks just like Peter. Eph 2:19-22 Paul declared that all Christians are being built together, as rocks upon other rocks, into the dwelling house if God Almighty. Even apostle (not pope) Peter declared in 1 Peter 2:5 that all Christians are living stones being built up as a spiritual house. That perfectly parallels Paul's description in Ephesians 2. So Christ can say individually to all Christians that His one true Church is constantly being built up, every individual Christian Christ still builds His church upon, no different than Peter. All prophets and apostles are the foundation, Christ being the first stone layed. So nothing to help your catholic denomination with that. Who did Christ say He would give the Kingdom to? Peter? NO! All apostles? YES. (Luke 22:29) Not Peter alone. Not some pope alone. Who did Jesus Christ actually say would be judging this church? Peter? NO! All apostles? Yes. (Luke 22:30) Not Peter alone. No popes according to Christ's own words. Only plurality of leadership. Back to Mt 16, in verse 19 Jesus says He will eventually give Peter the keys of the Kingdom. When did Peter receive those keys? When Paul wrote in Colossians 1:13 that God has transferred us to the kingdom of His Son, what else would Paul be referring to? What about Hebrews 12:28 where the writer says "we are receiving (present tense) a kingdom that cannot be shaken" A kingdom that cannot be shaken? Does that not add up to what Daniel prophesied about? Being spiritual, Hades (death waiting place before the resurrection) will not always keep the saved souls there. Hades CANNOT keep the saved from the return of Christ! So it's easily proven the church is the everlasting Kingdom of Christ. Now what do keys do? They open the door into the kingdom/church. Acts 2:38 Peter preached the 1st gospel sermon, people believed and obeyed, Acts 2:47 the Lord added to the church those who were being saved. So by Peter preaching Christ's message and the people obeying, they spiritually walked through the door into the kingdom of Christ. What about the 2nd key? What about Acts 10? Who preached the 1st gospel sermon to Gentiles? Peter. So Peter opened the door for non-jews to enter that same kingdom of Christ. There you have the significance of the keys in matt 16:19, nothing beyond that. What's more damning for your Roman catholic invention of a pope is Matt 18:18-20. Christ specifically commands the apostles to agree TOGETHER, at least 2 of them, when? When people ask a question concerning ANY/ALL matters. (Mt 18:19) Acts 15:1-6 = Mt 18:19 "question they ask" James +Peter agree together to not trouble gentile Christians with circumcision. Peter was never bishop (episcopas, "resident overseer") of Rome. He was apostle to Rome who, along with Paul, founded the church of Rome, but the Apostolic Constitutions say that the first bishop (episcopos) of Rome was Linus who was actually ordained by Paul. The Apostolic Constitutions is generally regarded as being on the level of authority of an ecumenical council. The Roman church went back and added Peter to the list of Bishops of Rome centuries later when they decided that Apostles were "Bishops PLUS" basically that being an Apostle to somewhere entailed being bishop of that place, but Peter was known to have been Bishop of Antioch and it is regarded as non-canonical for a Bishop to be the Bishop of two Patriachates simultaneously, and it would also be in contradiction to the Apostolic Constitutions. Furthermore, since Paul ordained Linus, the line of Bishops in Rome would be Pauline not Petrine. When the Roman Churched revised the line of Apostolic Succession of Rome to put Peter first, and move Linus to a later date, they also included several mistakes in the names of bishops of Rome, such as including "anaCletus" who is not even a person but for a long time they listed Cletus and Anacletus as separate Popes, only to discover that AnaCletus was a prepositional phrase that meant "after Cletus".
The word Episcopos and the word Apostolos have diametrically opposing meanings with Apostolos meaning someone who is sent out to a place to start a church and Episcopos meaning someone who is the resident overseer of the diocese.
(For a long while the RC church listed Peter, Linus, Cletus, Anacletus, Clement but the actual document that they screwed up with said "Anacletus Clement" which meant "after Cletus, then Clement.)
This is all important because the ONLY evidence or argument that Peter was the first bishop of Rome is that the Roman Catholic Church says so, but the Roman Catholic Church only deserves to be believed on its position that Peter was the first Bishop of Rome if PETER ACTUALLY WAS the first bishop of Rome and therefore the Roman Catholic Church deserves to be trusted on making that claim, so in the end, the authority of the Roman Catholic Church has NO external support.
The Church of Alexandria actually is Petrine, with Peter being the first Bishop. The Patriarch of Alexandria was also called POPE since he was the prime bishop of an entire continent (Africa) as the Bishop of Rome was the prime bishop of the continent of Europe. Jerusalem was the ancient patriarchate which was first considered to be the center and headquarters of Christianity.

Even we permit evil to bring good. For example, when we weight lift, we permit our muscles to be damaged in the process in order for them to grow stronger after recovery. If you never permit evil, greater evil can occur. For example, if you never exercise because you are afraid of muscle damage, then your health may decline, a much greater evil.

In the case of permitting evil, we are not intending the evil or willing it. The evil occurs as an accident or coincidence. However, committing an evil act requires us to intend / will evil to occur, which is disordered and contrary to our human nature.

I was formally trained at a university. I took four courses of Ancient Greek: two elementary and two intermediate. That basically puts me at a very basic level, and probably less so after so many years without rigorous practice.

Isaiah 22 is about Christ, not Peter, a little out of context don’t you think.
It’s about both. In Isaiah 22, there is a royal steward who serves the King in the House of David. Obviously Jesus would be the King in any parallel, and Peter is receiving the keys in Matthew 16, so that makes Peter analogous to Eliakim.

Peter was NOT the first one to acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, apparently all the people in the boat knew that (Matt 14:33) so nothing special about that. Also Luke 2:26 Simeon saw Jesus as a baby and knew He was the Christ.
John 1:41 Andrew found the Christ before Peter. So Peter was not first.
Mt 16:18 the catholic denomination's misinterpretation is easily destroyed by the common sense fact that ALL CHRISTIANS are rocks just like Peter. Eph 2:19-22 Paul declared that all Christians are being built together, as rocks upon other rocks, into the dwelling house if God Almighty. Even apostle (not pope) Peter declared in 1 Peter 2:5 that all Christians are living stones being built up as a spiritual house. That perfectly parallels Paul's description in Ephesians 2.
So Christ can say individually to all Christians that His one true Church is constantly being built up, every individual Christian Christ still builds His church upon, no different than Peter.
All prophets and apostles are the foundation, Christ being the first stone layed. So nothing to help your catholic denomination with that.

Back to Mt 16, in verse 19 Jesus says He will eventually give Peter the keys of the Kingdom. When did Peter receive those keys?

The church is a spiritual kingdom, therefore not capable of destruction as all other earthly kingdoms are.
When Paul wrote in Colossians 1:13 that God has transferred us to the kingdom of His Son, what else would Paul be referring to? What about Hebrews 12:28 where the writer says "we are receiving (present tense) a kingdom that cannot be shaken"
A kingdom that cannot be shaken? Does that not add up to what Daniel prophesied about? Being spiritual, Hades (death waiting place before the resurrection) will not always keep the saved souls there. Hades CANNOT keep the saved from the return of Christ!
So it's easily proven the church is the everlasting Kingdom of Christ. Now what do keys do? They open the door into the kingdom/church. Acts 2:38 Peter preached the 1st gospel sermon, people believed and obeyed, Acts 2:47 the Lord added to the church those who were being saved. So by Peter preaching Christ's message and the people obeying, they spiritually walked through the door into the kingdom of Christ.
What about the 2nd key? What about Acts 10? Who preached the 1st gospel sermon to Gentiles? Peter. So Peter opened the door for non-jews to enter that same kingdom of Christ.
There you have the significance of the keys in matt 16:19, nothing beyond that.
What's more damning for your Roman catholic invention of a pope is Matt 18:18-20. Christ specifically commands the apostles to agree TOGETHER, at least 2 of them, when? When people ask a question concerning ANY/ALL matters. (Mt 18:19)

Peter alone would be disobedience to Jesus Christ's specific instructions to the apostles in Matt 18:19-20. Vs 20 Christ specifically designed "where 2 or 3 are gathered together," there Christ is also. So no authority for a pope alone to make any rulings of matters of faith and morals. No pope, only plurality of leadership.
2 Corinthians 13:1 Leter every fact be established by the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses. Even Jesus refers to this universal law in John 8:17. So it's literally IMPOSSIBLE to have a pope with authority alone at anything. It's disobedience to Christ's specific instructions and therefore sinful when popes exist.

The canon of the Bible is discerned from historical sources, the bible is collection of *received* books not declared books. The canonical writings were received from the prophets and later from the apostles.
