  • I am greatly impressed that Tantara Records, the copyright owners of this video (located on BYU campus) are alright with the video being posted. I would recommend everyone buy the DVD. It has some great music on it.
    Available at www.TantaraReco... The BYU Combined Choruses sing "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" arranged by Mack Wilberg from the album "A Thanksgiving of American Folk Hymns" (© Tantara Records). I would encourage everyone to buy the DVD or CD, even if just for this song. You can get them at www.TantaraReco...

    I was born a Baptist and raised a Baptist. My great-uncle was an outstanding Baptist minister and a very good man. He wanted me to be a minister and attend Southern Baptist University. It is time we loved each other as Christ asked us to. Put away hate, rankor, callousness, and replace it with charity, kind words, peace, love and understanding. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over 34 years ago and have never regretted that decision. I have a testimony.

    I have been in Baptist church music as vocalist, pianist and organist for over 60 years and have never, ever heard a more beautiful or worshipful arrangement of this lovely old hymn. I've listened to it numerous times and it still brings me to tears and makes me worship. So uplifting. It's just incredible ! The tempo, orchestral accompaniment and arrangement are perfect. The arranger Mack Wilburg has earned himself numerous crowns to lay at the feet of Jesus in Heaven. WOW ! Gorgeous!

    I am not a mormon, but I truly love this! I listen to it when I need to hear some inspirational music, and some music praising God/Jesus Christ our lord. All of you people who have negative comments to say about this. You need to show compassion. Hate, ignorance, intolerance are not traits of Christ. Reconsider who you are before you throw stones at other people, or their faith. Respect, this is not a knew idea.

    I have to say that I do not believe in the Book of Mormon at all, but if you are not moved by this then you just don't have a soul. People, stop arguing theology because no one is going to read your comment and then change their entire outlook on life anyway. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy this master piece of beauty. If you were in this choir or orchestra and you are reading this, my God that was amazing! Thank you so much for your hard work in doing that.

    This hymn is NOT "religious" and only those who ARE "relgious"...the same type that killed Christ, can nNOT see that this song is about a RELATIONSHIP...something...that NO RELIGION can give you....and ONLY THOSE...WHO HAVE IT...relationship with God that is, can even know anything about. Whether these people that sing, have relationships with God or not...know the Bible or not...or any other book...or not...one thing I also know , this is a beautiful rendition of this..Bravo BYU!! Thank God!

    We all speak in different tongues based on life experience and circumstance. We shouldn't judge someone for how they express their feelings, especially if they're being sincere.

      Interesting. I lost a close friend to a motorcycle accident at a way too young age. This was one of his favorite hymns and they played it at his service. I listen to it periodically and it brings his memory up. But it's more than that too. There's a patience and exalting feel to this song to where I feel almost in total reverie when I listen to it. The original composition is as perfect a song that exists. This arrangement somehow lifts it even higher. When I'm carried away by this song I think of how blessed I am and how wonderful the earth and the life that dwells in it is. We're all so fortunate to have this song in our lives.

    There are too many people out there who do not believe in Christ, that think it's okay to drink, use drugs, watch awful movies, to lie a little, to be unkind. They need your attention much more. At least mormons help others...that is the MOST important way to follow Christ and they donate and help people around the world and pray for others and do the best they can. You should focus your energy on where it can help. You really should pray and ask God in what ways you can help. Good luck.

    I am a admittedly teenager, part of the generation that takes these kinds of music for granted. But in all my years of going to Church and listening to hymns of worship since childhood, I have never heard a more magical song that inspires and uplifts my heart in so many ways. I'm sure there are other people who feels this way and now, I just wish I could have paid more attention to Church and had more chances of listening to these songs. This is an amazing rendition, just absolutely lovely.

      I was shown this video in a philosophy class at Ricks college in 1999 during a discussion of aesthetics. It was so impactful to me personally, but it has also had a tremendous impact on the style of choir in the Church as a whole in promoting Mack Wilberg and his influence. I have wanted to ask someone who was there performing or in the audience what it was like. Was it obvious from the power of this performance the impact it would have? I’m not exaggerating, if I could time travel this would be high on the list for me as a moment to experience.

    Hello Brent,
    While I am not LDS I do acknowledge this faithful interpretation by Mack Wilberg, he does more justice to the composer than do most modern hymnals. The BYU Orchestra and Choir are also to be greatly applauded.
    Equality before God is determined by divine judgement not by human desires, the LDS/Christianity tension is more complex and serious than what simple equivalency of wording allows.

    OK, most people are going to say, "you can get back up, keep on trucking", but they can't have empathy for something of that level. Not a day goes by that I don't consider suicide and how the world was created, in my own words "Damned are those who think". My words are, Jesus didn't die for us to keep beating on ourselves, when he lived he was completely human and God, knew the temptations and had emotions. Because of this connection, he knows everything, and he died to save the world from death

      The term “Mormon” has lately been clarified to refer strictly to an ancient prophet by that name and to the book of scripture he abridged.
      Consequently, there is no such thing as “Mormon music”, “Mormons”, “Mormon Church”, and so on.
      The people who belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are now known not by the retired nickname, but as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
      It may be a mouthful, but it’s accurate.

    C.S. Lewis pointed out that it is far too easy for us to assume that only the very serious things of life are approved by God. But in God's economy, where so much is upside down, even things that look frivolous, unimportant, wasteful, or playful can be important when they are attached to the joy found in the heart of God's character.

He has also told us what he thinks and how he feels about those who mock His prophet as well as His church. Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
    Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
    Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
    Call for songs of loudest praise.
    Teach me some melodious sonnet,
    Sung by flaming tongues above.
    Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it,
    Mount of Thy redeeming love.
    Here I raise my Ebenezer;
    Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
    And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
    Safely to arrive at home.
    PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT,
    PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE.
    HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT,
    SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE.
    Jesus sought me when a stranger,
    Wandering from the fold of God;
    He, to rescue me from danger,
    Interposed His precious blood;
    PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT,
    PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE.
    HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT,
    SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE.
    O to grace how great a debtor
    Daily I’m constrained to be!
    Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
    Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
    PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT,
    PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE.
    HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT,

    All religion on the face of this world has it's questions - historically - for doubt. The Mormon religion is no different, when it is honestly approached from a purely secular point of reference.
    But, until the day that I die, I will absolutely know that the spiritual feelings I have felt when hearing this music were good, real, and true - and that the church that made it possible to be performed is smiled upon by God for making those feelings accessible to all who would listen and feel.

    simply beautiful. I wish there peaceful music such as this was more prominent in pop culture. I realize that this is a silly wish, but at the same time this just reflects reality so much more vividly. Pop music is so fast and in your face. It's so obvious that it is a competition to steal the attention of the audience.

    What a great performance by a great group of the youth of the LDS Church as a member of the Church I know the source of the talent comes from. Mormons believe that all the talents that we have are to be magnified and without the power of the Holy Ghost these talents would not be possible. I filmed a video of the 150 year Celebration of the Pioneers that came to Utah in 1847 held at BYU in 1997 and this performance by the ldsteencenter is certainly equal to that special celebration. Hello, Christian. I hope by now you have come back to church. If not, it's never too late. I came back after being away for 10 years and it is worth it! I have been back for 20 and I am so glad I did. It was hard, but I have more peace in my life knowing I am living more the way I know I should be living. You can do it. The Lord is there to help you, like He helped me. God bless you.

    oh my..... does a musical ensemble ever get this good without some unseen power. I am a transexual and therefore cannot be a member of the LDS church but it matters not - I can still enjoy glorious, uplifting performances like this one. 'Perfection' in describing the playing and singing, doesn't even come close - its so much better than that. Jakec1985 and lionssong2525 and willybob sum it up perfectly.

    Stanza three seems to be a forecast of his later life, when he lapsed into sin. There is a well-known story of Robinson, riding a stagecoach with a lady who was deeply engrossed in a hymnbook. Seeking to encourage him, she asked him what he thought of the hymn she was humming. Robinson burst into tears and said, "Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then."

    What a great arrangement of a charming song. This video and song I never tire of.
    It builds and builds. The girl with the tear gets me everytime because she feels about music the way I do....that great music is soul stirring. I'd say now, that you can play this at my funeral. But alas, because I am a drummer, some idiot will think I prefer "wipeout."

    For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing;they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten.Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun (...)Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom( ...) Ecclesiastes 9:5,610, Pastor Robinson knows nothing in his grave because his dead, that what Bible teach us. And the hymn is beautiful and the performance is also very touching.

    I am not LDS.... Im not of any faith as it happens but that apart, I love this hymn tune arranged by Mack Wilberg. You don't need to be of faith to admire wonderful music and words even if it has a religious base - you just need to be a person who cares for other human beings and who believes in something. Simple really.
