More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.
The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.
This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.

Another reason people are leaving Port St Lucie is they have no bridges to the beach (Hutchinson Island) and no downtown area. You have to drive to Stuart or Fort Pierce to drive to get to the beach or enjoy a dedicated downtown. We left PSL in 2024 and moved to Melbourne Florida where they have both bridges to the beach and a downtown with great shopping etc.

No good jobs. It’s always been like that but now it’s even worse. A lot of people are traveling hundreds of miles every day for jobs just like they used to.
You people don’t know how good you have it here. I just bought a house here, new construction, I came from Broward County, this is a different country. People here actually speak English. The crime in Broward is off the charts. Try to go to Miami on 95 anytime during the day, it will take over an hour to go 5 miles. I know this real well I was a bus driver there. The rents are higher in Broward if you don’t want to live in the ghetto. In conclusion, the grass is not always greener on the other side.
My family’s been in PSL for 20 yrs from Broward. It’s gotten a lot more crowded. I’m leaving Broward soon can’t take the insane toll lanes on 95,rude people, takes forever to get anywhere. Not Going to PSL either.
I’m moving next month . Been here since 2006 in Tradition . Moving to Port Saint Joe, Florida. What this area looked liked 25 years ago. I’m sure it will change too but I’ll be dead by then.
The problem with the taxes is the imbalance of property taxes with this homesteading. It wasn’t as bad when the houses were 150-200 thousand dollars. My taxes are 3 1/2 times more than my neighbors. And 4 of my friends decided not to move down here.
I lived in Port St. Lucie in the early seventies. There were no schools, we were bussed to Ft. Pierce. There was a big middle class development with with all sfh off US1. The only amenity was a sports complex. As for shopping, there was a convenience store. That was Port St. Lucie.
Early 70's ? You could say that about many small towns across the country. Hell fire ! Even Dade county (Miami) back then was not bad. Left in the late 70's.
How can you be an agent in the area and then provide reasons for not moving there? I live about three hours south, so I know all about HOA, taxes and homeowners insurance. Everywhere in FL is expensive. I guarantee the car insurance is cheaper than Ft Lauderdale. More people in this area move to Gainesville, Jacksonville or Georgia and NC.
Yeah...But the problem is...there are more people moving in than moving out... it sure seems to me, especially over in Tradition i live close to Becker Rd between 195 and the Turnpike and its not overcrowded there ❤
Just in the 5 yrs I’ve been here this place has gone to hell!! To many people! To much Traffic! To much crime! Some of the worst drivers anywhere! High home prices! And one of the worst things is our local government just keeps letting every developer with a few dollars build and build and build!! We dont need any more condos houses or shopping centers!!! Everywhere you go is crowded and no one gives a crap about anyone else!!
All valid points. We live in a town between Port. St. Lucie and Melbourne. Many people in our community moved here from the West Palm or Miami area because the traffic is better here.
The people that are leaving are people that have been here for a long time. We are getting bombarded with Haitians, Jamaicans, Central Americans and Cubans and not a decent group, we are getting majority of the drugs, and delinquents kind, including from the south. I moved up here 6 years ago from miami. And when I tell you fort pierce might have its history but people were leaving home and car doors unlocked. Now they steal in broad daylight and so drugged up they fail to see you got cameras. Not to mention polluting all of streets too. I was about ready to pull the trigger but the taxes are nuts for Florida. It’s cheaper in NJ! Note I’m concerned about insurance rising and HOA fees are rising!
Greetings from NYC. We used to visit Florida often when my parents were alive. What I'll never forget, is the people there were wonderful. Hang in there please. You'll get through this.
Having moved here from the UK forty years ago, I don’t see that happening. HOA’s are getting more expensive and homeowner insurance rates won’t go down anytime soon. I detest the humidity because I can’t garden as much. Give me CA type weather any day.
Why is the millage rate one of the highest in the state if this is amongst the fastest growing city in Florida? I'd think with more people and the high growth that the property tax rate would lower quite a bit.
Haven’t you seen how fast empty lots get build? I don’t think so. The city is evolving. I had 5 empty lots in my block and now there is none in 4 blocks radius.
Insurance cost, traffic, heat, crime and very high taxes are the reasons we moved not only out of Port St. Lucie but Florida. Y’all can have that mess and if you moved to Florida for the beach, good luck finding parking there!
Planning on moving to FL in a year and Port St. L was and still is top of the list! Born and raised in NY currently living and owning a home in CA for the past 12 years so Property Tax, Insurance and Politics doesn’t frighten me at allllll! 😅 Thanks for the info!
I live in stuart !!! Port Saint Lucie Is crazy busy..... expensive you need to make at least 50k plus....and it ghetto have to carefull who's around you!!
lol stay away from PSL bc the property taxes & homeowners insurance will bankrupt you!! It’s nice here yeah but it’s now overcrowded and disrespectfully overpriced 💯
I don't think you can say taxes are high because of the millage rate alone. It's a combination of millage PLUS assessed value. Looking at an average of total property tax burden on average, as compared to other municipalities, would be a better way to judge tax levels.
Very honest and infkramtive video. Yeah fl hard pass it rains alot and buricane risk is way too high. You gave me more reason to jy cheap land in hi where trade winds blow constantky so no need for ac.
Bought a 4000 sf new foreclosed home in saw grass lakes back in 08 for 225k..was 665k ..sold it 2 years later..230k...now it's 550k..but going to foreclosure again for 249K...crazy people
Not sure what youre talking about because theres more people moving in than are leaving. Insurance and taxes suck all over FL. PSL is way more affordable than anywhere South of PSL and PSL is just facing the same thing most of Florida is facing, just gentrification and growth and it ruins everything so we need to go further North. At this rate I need to go to the Panhandle.
LOL! I remember that. I own a small land surveying company in Martin County, one of my small builders and I were recently joking about that fact. He said he still has a list of about 100 Lots with notes on it critiquing the lots at 2K a pop. If we had a clue they would rocket up to 100K per lot we would have purchased all of them sight unseen.
We Ran into a Couple of Families from Miami beach who were think about moving to SanDiego CA, their reason getting jobs here and very High home owners insurance cost and ever increasing HOA Cost. they mentioned a useless Gov, who has not done a jack, other than heavily involved with some foreign lobby, that must suck
What that family forgot to mention is that for every family that leaves FL, 5 move in. And there’s plenty of jobs in Miami. If they found a better paying job in California, that’s another thing.
LOL, I'm in San Diego, CA looking at South FL, Atlantic side. We must have the worst governor of all. As far as CA goes, we have the highest unemployment, like half the homeless of the US but 11% of the population, lots of crime, and housing costs perhaps the highest in the country when compared to incomes. Friendly to illegal immigrants; free health care and cell phones for them. I'm guessing I should stay here until I am taxed out of this place (should be 5 years or so). Paradise seems unattainable; the one with the fewest negatives on balance might win.
Yes, let your clients move back up to NY so they can ensure a democrat majority. Florida is a Republican state and support Mr. Trump. With that said, I agree with you on everything you said, except, it is NOT only PSL, but the entire state where folks want out. The majority want out because of the property taxes and insurance. Whatever state you move to, 6 of 1, half a dozen of another UNLESS you are moving to a small town where the population has not increased in 10 years. PSL, no doubt is becoming overpopulated; however, I do not see an issue for 10 years out because the government fails to mandate infrastructure requirements - JUST like any other city. Remember, the purpose of government is to increase tax base and control over the people, nothing more, nothing less. With this said, all things considered, PSL is still a great place to live. I am amazed how respectful and friendly the people are here. I am from Broward and I must say, in comparison, the people here are much more patient and kinder toward others than in Leftyville.
Yes, I agree. Homeowners insurance taxes, traffic. Insurance companies, demanding you put on a new roof. Auto insurance out of sight. Yes, politics play a large role people who leave the blue states because of politics are coming to Florida and trying to turn Florida blue that does not sit well with me. We have been very happy here in Florida and I think our governor has done a great job.
Are all these people who are badmouthing Pt St Lucie glued, stapled, hog tied or bolted down here? Since they are so disgruntled, the solution is simple……LEAVE. Do we all have the same likes and dislikes?
It isn't too hard to figure it out, high insurance costs, HOA increases, Tax rates, and special assessments, then throw in the income inequality issue in the job market in the state of Florida in general, with homeless running around everywhere and crime rising.
Bottom line if you're going to move down here or anywhere in Florida you better be able to pay for your home in cash. Rent way too expensive because of insurance the landlords have to cover. Florida definitely needs a huge wage increase. It isn't cheap to live down here like it used to be even 5 or 6 years ago
Be diligent in your research the condo industry is in shambles buildings have not been inspected in decades and people are finding themselves homeless due to lack of inspections and accountability. Never forget the condo that collapsed down south that was madness and no one will be held accountable. Do not trust these folks with your wellbeing. Stay safe
You have a good Governor but like you said insurance rates car, home, boat’s etc are too high and hoa rates are too high esp with condos! Too humid in summer but nice November through April! ! I will stick to visiting friends in November , early December and April!😊 thanks
@@tyronetrump1612 It's true, the city is run by the developers and realtors. Why do you think the Mayor raised $100K for her campaign largely from them. And the streets are a free for all.
ha ha. I thought it might be a good back drop in my car showing people moving- aka driving away - never thought it would make me look homeless :) Thanks for the chuckle!

Having moved here from the UK forty years ago, I don’t see that happening. HOA’s are getting more expensive and homeowner insurance rates won’t go down anytime soon. I detest the humidity because I can’t garden as much. Give me CA type weather any day.
Those were true Floridians.
Not the 💩 that's moved here in the last 10-15 years.
❤
Yes she’s right. Please don’t come to Port Saint Lucie & if you are leaving C'est la vie
😄
PSL is and always has been a dump lol
@@KingFergus yep you are right. Please don’t come here.
@barsquad4444 no worries, I don't want to be that close to Ft Pierce..
@@KingFergus like I said. Please stay away. Thanks in advance
Why is the millage rate one of the highest in the state if this is amongst the fastest growing city in Florida?
I'd think with more people and the high growth that the property tax rate would lower quite a bit.
Please do not blame traffic accidents on older people and people from another country. It's the locals that drive like maniacs
Spot on. Hopefully the prices will reduce as the ppl leave!!!
People leaving? The population is growing rapidly. Houses being built continuously
Planning on moving to FL in a year and Port St. L was and still is top of the list! Born and raised in NY currently living and owning a home in CA for the past 12 years so Property Tax, Insurance and Politics doesn’t frighten me at allllll! 😅 Thanks for the info!
There's better places in Florida to live than this town
You'd fit right in. 💩
Lol, worst place to be top on your list. Melbourne is way better!
Please stay in ny
From NY and California??? lmao....please stay away from Florida
We just sold in Amelia Island because the home owners insurance is on the move up and car no fault is up….taxes are up….building in S Carolina!
Get ready to pay income tax, maybe around 5%??
If people are "leaving Port St Lucie", they're definitely being replaced (and at a faster rate.)
The title is misleading.
I live in stuart !!! Port Saint Lucie
Is crazy busy..... expensive you need to make at least 50k plus....and it ghetto have to carefull who's around you!!
I left my home state of Florida. I made a good move.
Very informative. Wish she was working Broward market down here.
No one is leaving. In fact, last week Florida tallied 23 million residents.
Saturated with out of town people, who don’t have a clue about life, and economics.
You look and sound very familiar. Have you spent any time at a GH in the Tampa area? I've never received any interest back on my deposit...
lol stay away from PSL bc the property taxes & homeowners insurance will bankrupt you!! It’s nice here yeah but it’s now overcrowded and disrespectfully overpriced 💯
I don't think you can say taxes are high because of the millage rate alone. It's a combination of millage PLUS assessed value. Looking at an average of total property tax burden on average, as compared to other municipalities, would be a better way to judge tax levels.
thanks for pointing that out too
80% of the taxes per house in psl goes to the county.
Very honest and infkramtive video. Yeah fl hard pass it rains alot and buricane risk is way too high. You gave me more reason to jy cheap land in hi where trade winds blow constantky so no need for ac.
Thank you. Land is always a good buy
Thx for the honest review. If you had to move as 20 year vet of the area where would you go?
Alabama
You're welcome. We're seeing a lot of the builders now moving up to the Palm Bay area to build.
Good job. Thank you.
Thank you!
The amount of people moving in has decreased and inventory has skyrocketed and homes are sitting longer, especially in pt st Lucie
@@CraigC-h6b Yeah you can say that about everywhere right now.
The prices will be dropping. When we see higher inventory. It's time for a market adjustment.
i live in marco its great you get what you pay fore
All the transplants the last 25 years have ruined MY real Florida...it's toast now!😂
I was buying Port St Lucie 1/4 acre lots for $2,000-$3,000 back in 1999.
Honest points.
HOAs are killer here too. Every time it goes up, I feel so bad for my landlord I raise my own rent :-(
They’re leaving because once they move there they realize that they’re living in Pt. Saint Lucie!
Port St Lousy
I wouldn't live in PSL even if you paid me. So many way better places to live for the same cost.
My family from fort pierce years ago
Very informative
thank you. I'm glad that you found it helpful
😂 port saint lousy…. People are moving because the closest thing to do is West Palm. City is just a huge suburb
San Diego is super expensive too but if there’s no jobs I understand
Much of PSL is trashy. There’s no getting around that fact.
Port st lousy no jobs no opportunity
Yes tell people not to move here
You are Correct.
Retirees or wfh (work from home) should be fine.
Are all these people who are badmouthing Pt St Lucie glued, stapled, hog tied or bolted down here? Since they are so disgruntled, the solution is simple……LEAVE. Do we all have the same likes and dislikes?
You hit it spot on ❤.
Thanks. I love this this area but am trying to help explain what's going on to people that are trying to understand the area
It isn't too hard to figure it out, high insurance costs, HOA increases, Tax rates, and special assessments, then throw in the income inequality issue in the job market in the state of Florida in general, with homeless running around everywhere and crime rising.
way more people coming in then going out , PSL is one of the fastest growing city in the country ...
I want to scoop up a property in Palm Beach for 75% off
Why not scoop up property in Palm Beach for 99% off ?
lol that ain’t happening
Smoke some more crack!
Love it let the Democrats roll back up north.
Stay safe
If you plan to buy in florida, Hurricane Season "Now" is not the right time never was and never will be.
I move away 13 years ago😂😂😂 to the north eats and 3 my salary and have one of the best health insurance available.
You have a good Governor but like you said insurance rates car, home, boat’s etc are too high and hoa rates are too high esp with condos! Too humid in summer but nice November through April! ! I will stick to visiting friends in November , early December and April!😊 thanks
Traffic so bad stop and go so many times
Go drive down in Dade Broward County for a day. You will then shut up about traffic.
Because Florida looking like California. High ass rent and over population!!!
Move camera in closer and turn sound down.
I'll have to work on that for the next video. Thanks for the advice and for watching
A new $400 thousand house and $8 thousand taxes????? 😮😮😮
Hopefully most of the nice unreadable people take a hike to PB Broward Dade County’s will love to take you on?
Insurance was covered in Affordability.
Port st Lucie is one big HOA.
You are clueless
@@tyronetrump1612 It's true, the city is run by the developers and realtors. Why do you think the Mayor raised $100K for her campaign largely from them. And the streets are a free for all.
Let them leave PLEASE
Eeee they built 1000 of new houses
Homeowners insurance is a scam I'm going to be paying my house off this year and canceling them
Florida is going to crash hard like 2008 ish it coming.
I’ll wait for hurricane season to come to an end & then everything will be half price.😅
This is happening all over Florida
why is this lady doing her video in her car??? is she homeless???
ha ha. I thought it might be a good back drop in my car showing people moving- aka driving away - never thought it would make me look homeless :) Thanks for the chuckle!
Home owners insurance and high prices of housing !
Car insurance is also higher because of auto theft. Large criminal gangs stealing cars & shipping them overseas
A bunch of greed freaking people that's why.
People will be forced out due to affordability...and when storm damage hits..look out
How about ppl born n raised. We don't care about you who moved here In 2010
