Movie was such a great part of my childhood. But the ending was too sad with Dot crying for the kangaroo to come back. And this music adds to it. Great piece nonetheless.
I remember the parents calling for Dot during this song, and they were very sad that she was lost, as any parent would. This is etched on my memory banks forever, a long with the bunyip song
This was my mum's all time favourite movie when she was young. I used to watch this when I was about 4 or 5 and I kinda remember it. Idk why but this movie was truly amazing when I was younger I just thought it was such a good movie lol even tho I was young. I couldn't find the name until I told my mum and told me is was called dot and the kangaroo. And here I am getting flash backs
Oh my goodness, you have just made my day. I remember Dot and the Kangaroo, it was one of my best childhood movies. It’s been like 11 years since I’ve seen it and I got flashbacks last year (sorry to right this late). The ending did make me cry as a child but even as an adult it still haunts my mind every now and then, but the soundtrack is still beautiful. By the way, I did make a playlist of the soundtrack which took lots of editing and I even include this music to it, because I couldn’t edit the original, as well as putting this song with How to Train your Dragon. m.ua-cam.com/play/PLdi5rWme6ZO8KA6WN_3q-gTCXp0wKukI_.html I am also trying to make a video that shows all the scenes that play Dot’s theme in the franchise (and even editing that made me cry), so I can’t wait to upload it. Thank you for making this video for us.
After listening to this a handful of times - it's also reminiscent of the sad goodbye music from "Savanah Smiles" very similar notes and progression - LOVE IT Man!
Dave - Thank you for reproducing this beautiful music. I have been looking for the music from Dot for years - it's nice to hear the song without Dot yelling "Kangaroo, Come Back" over it - even though I love that too. :) Excellent work brother - I am a radio DJ in Boston and my show is all tailor made for this: as I play obscure music from our childhood. I hope you don't mind if I play this on the air
Hauntingly Beautiful revised version of this piece~ It makes you think, what in the hell happened to animated movies for children and of course other ages? Around let's say 1967 to 1983 especially, animated movies challenged viewers just as much live action movies could. Nowadays most of main stream animation is dumbed down for kids and instead of having charming voice actors, they are made up with celebrities just trying to get a quick buck. But that is just my opinion. Anyhow keep up the great work!
Hearing this just threw me right back to my childhood. Absolutely love this. Made me cry then and it still does ❤️❤️❤️. Thank you for re-creating this ❤️
Great job Dave as usual! I love your channel! When i going to record my covers i watching your videos, because your guitar playing real killer ! all te best to you!
Came across this nostalgic film on TV recently, and couldn't help but notice this beautiful piece every time it played.. It deserves to be so much more known than it is. I noticed however, that production of the original piece was very grainy, tinny and even wonky in parts.. I'm guessing the prints of the film were not stored too well. I thought how wonderful it would be like for someone to produce a clear updated version.. And when I heard this, I got exactly what I was looking for! Absolutely outstanding work, Dave. Fair play. Did you learn it by ear or did you have access to the sheet music?
Thank you so much. I feel exactly the same about this theme. I learnt by ear so it may not be absolutely perfect. I used samples through my midi keyboard to try to get realistic orchestra sounds. Really glad you like it :) Thanks for commenting :)
This song makes me sad and reminds me of my desire blue budgie who passed away in December 4th 2016.Blue my budgie i will always miss you and you will always fly across the heavens and let god watch over me each day and week i will always miss you.😭😢😭😢😢😢😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔
I absolutely love this. The music in this film is very underrated. I know it is silly in places but it is full of beauty. This piece and the bunyip song in particular. Do you have the sheet/midi/chords you used for this? I have searched everywhere and cannot find it. btw - awesome guitar playing on your other vids ;)
A very faint memory of this movie came up today. I thought it might have been a dream so I looked it up. Why do I find myself silently sobbing at this?
Lovely. The composer, Bob Young, definitely seems to be channeling John Barry, and his theme from Walkabout (ua-cam.com/video/PRCIy6Z4T_8/v-deo.html). Which would make sense, given the subject matter. Best Wishes, Mr. Locke.
This kills me.. at 49... Damn... Now if only we could get a restored print of the first movie.. The other films pale... Just wish mama found her real joey and not some bunny.... For my parents... THANK YOU..
Saw this as a kid in 1977 at the Roxy Parramatta with my sister we both cried at the end. Looking back now disappointed with the ending . Would have like Mrs kangaroo to have found her Joey.
This music is so haunting. Even at 29, makes me emotional and want to cry

Not sure if you take requests but i saw how successful your battlefield song was and thought maybe you could do a classic Dave cover of halo.
