i really love this album. its a timeline. glimpse of us is a full length song because its at the beginning and as it gets closer to the end the songs get shorter and shorter from midnight (night rider) and 1 am freestyle at the end, getting less and less coherent as time passes.
tbf i really loved that album since it talks about things and thoughts that have tormented my life recently and that i can relate to. in my opinion this is joji‘s most mature project. it’s his most polished album but at the same time it is not. let me explain. all his thoughts and background behind this project are very clear but the product itself doesn’t succeed in putting them out which gives that feeling of an unfinished project. and tbh as much as my first listen touched me emotionally and the potential this album has on paper i also do feel like wanting more. vocally i think that joji has reached his peak but again doesn’t show his full potential he shown us on slow dancing in the dark. personally i wouldn’t announce this project as an album but as an EP. but all in all i really liked the project since it really had me in my feels but i also tried to acknowledge and understand why the critics have been so poor on this album. definitely in my top 10 album of the year. 8/10
Perfectly said at the end. Wish it had more tracks, but it might of diluted the album if it had more. Definitely his most solid album front to end for me. God I love Joji
Yo im telling you we need an ernest cover of a song, dudes got vocals Also went to listne to James Blake after this video, and I dont know how I’ve never found him before, but his music’s incredible. So haunting and futuristic
I looooove the low harmonies on this album. It's been on repeat for me. Only disappointment is that it's so short. Also I love your commentary, you really pick up on details.
I was waiting for your reaction lol. Great reaction as always. Personally, this album is tied for first with Nectar. I loved every album but his growth as an artist was shown in this album and I couldn’t be more proud of him. Yes, it was short but the vocals made up for it, in my opinion. Again, great reaction. Have a good one. ✌🏼
I personally love this album, I think Joji is deliberate as a musician to purposely have this work feel “unfinished” or that it should have more to it. The complex duality of emotions in these songs are presented in the covered in the interchange between the first and second half of the album. And maybe he has not come to the end of processing such emotions. Emotions don’t end, and I think there was beautiful intention in the production of this album. In my opinion, somehow, he has outdone himself with this work. His music makes me hurt about things that I thought were healed. One of my top releases of 2022. Thank you for this review - loved it💕
dude same this was my first time as well, and after this I went to listen to some of his other songs, and u gotta listen to his song Retrograde, shit was incredible
I only have one criticism from this album. I really don’t like the adlib on Night Rider saying “I’m so precious”. I just really don’t like the sound of it and the sound if it doesn’t fit imo.
Dang man, I finally have the will to watch YT after my soul mate broke up with me and she just made it official yesterday. I thought you would skip Glimpse of Us because you already did a vid on it before. Thought I was safe, but maaaaan. First 5 mins already killed me.
I don't like how most people hated this album. Yes it's not perfect and it's short. But it's definitely different from his others. Plus it's something compared to waiting two years. I think people were just quick to judge because they were expecting the best album.
THIS. This is my favorite review of smithereens. A lot of folks became hypercritical of this album because they didn’t feel so strongly about these songs of his as they did listening to nectar and ballads 1 for literally months and years. Not a perfect album at all and not my favorite from Joji’s but it’s amazing nonetheless.
I wish people woukd upload videos (yes stream recorded videos) without the chat. Theres nothing that ruins a video quite like a thousand absolutely idiots spamming their opinios. If i want that ill read the comments. Which i dont. So if i dont want to see it then why stick it literally over the entire video.
Bro, I'm not a hater, but someone please explain how Smithereens is as good as Nectar? Nectar was great both in storyline and in music as a whole Smithereens was okay. Not great, not perfect, but just...okay I mean I'm still grateful that we got some new material, but I feel like Nectar set the bar high for Joji, and this just wasn't it, chief
Joji always ruins my day and i love it
BARS.
@@TheThirdErnest *incoming sirens*
That is the Joji effect
Dude the ending of 1am freestyle is so powerful
1 AM is my favorite 🤝🏻
1am is also my fav
Ends screaming “I don wanna be alone” into the silence.
@@BrendanZanitCoen yesssss by a whole choir of jojis
1am freestyle and die for you is def the strongest songs on the album (excluding glimpse of us and yukon since they were already prereleased)

That makes a lot of sense that only adds to the emotions of the album. He’s losing his sanity as it goes on
Joji is actually listed as a producer on Life Is Not The Same by James Blake
True and James is one of joji’s biggest vocal influences
He also did back up vocals for it too
@@a-trainofthought4989can't believe I never noticed the similarities
“Fantano will give it a strong 6” he didn’t know how correct he was.
we need a abel & joji album
i would actually throw up from happiness and pure pain if that happened
Yesssss absolutely the one time they collaborated so far was the party monster video and Joji was the camera operator.
'if everything means nothing, but even nothing is something, that means everything means something and nothing means everything' BARRRR!!

This is by far not his most polished album. Nectar has that all the way.
Perfectly said at the end. Wish it had more tracks, but it might of diluted the album if it had more. Definitely his most solid album front to end for me. God I love Joji
Bro make song/album of the year contender video
Also the song of the year top 10/15 would be fire lol
Yo im telling you we need an ernest cover of a song, dudes got vocals

My friends Didnt like the álbum and i got obsessed Over it. Its nice to Watch other people react and like it
It's absolutely beautiful
I’m glad you appreciated and loved the album. I can also relate to the obsession. I’ve been repeating Smithereens for days.
I looooove the low harmonies on this album. It's been on repeat for me. Only disappointment is that it's so short. Also I love your commentary, you really pick up on details.
Did you know that Joji helped to produce Life is Not the Same by James Blake? He also did the background vocals on the track.

Man 😌 I've been anticipating your review of this album xx
Joji was actually the cam recorder for the Party Monster music video
my boy parkie wasn't in the stream chat? crazyyyy
The piano on Feeling Like The End is an interpolation of “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi” by Radiohead - Joji has great music taste!!!
Joji has vocal and production credits on that James Blake track!
I JUST LISTENED TO IT AND I CAN DEF HEAR IT
Doom Eternal makes me want to destroy things, Joji makes me want to regret it
I weirdly needed to see this comment

Harpsicord is the 1793 instrument he is thinking of and its spot on.
17:31 inflection point
Yes do a top 15 songs of the year
22:07 Shit you know Deb Never?? Taste, she's so fire. I hope Joji collabs with her one day
My Apple Music Rewind says I’ve played Glimpse of us 417 times this year…
Joji and the Optic Texas jersey! Big W

Funny how he wondered how fantino would rate this, because fantino was clearly not impressed lol.
What score did he give it?
FANTANO GAVE IT A STRONG 4 WTF

Who care lol?
Can you react to church clothes 4 album by lecrae?
I'm willing to bet that there was more to the album, but knowing him he prolly cut the rest cos it wasnt good enough
25:00 Joji helped produce that song too
My favorite album by him to date. Smithereens is his strongest musically lyrically and emotionally.
Fantano gave this shit a strong 4🤣🤣🤣
Reminds me so much of Keshi

Such a sin that Fantano gave this a strong 4. This album is at the very least a strong 9.

React to maniac by stray kids
it feels like a demo, i dont even know why he released it, feels half baked, low effort, just why release it...
