Watching Nick finally clean out his research catches was the real reason to watch the video. Great tips and explanations for beginner and expert catching techniques
Now i am waiting for him to finish all his special researches ^^ I am genuinely not able to stack researches because I can’t bear the little orange icon that says that I have something to do!
Just as an FYI, once you've set your circle size, you don't actually have to set it again unless you throw a ball too late. So long as you let go before the circle comes back after the attack animation, it will always be the same size no matter how many balls you throw or how many attacks the pokemon does.
I think Nick kept repeating it just for demonstration purposes but I also was waiting for him to say that you only need to do it once per encounter (if the timing of your throws is right).
I've had people argue with me about that because they couldn't get it to work. Then I watched them throw, and they'd always throw too late and just tell me I'm wrong. lol it's so frustrating because they are so into Pokemon GO and are nearly level 50's.
A tip for using the Quick Catch on a more difficult Pokémon, or a Pokémon that has appeared from a lure that you fear might disappear from the map if you leave the catch screen. Perform Nick's Quick-Catch as described, but don't Flee until you see the Pokéball shake a 3rd time. That 3rd shake is a guarantee that the Pokémon is caught, so you can flee as soon as you see it, and know that the Pokémon is caught. If the Pokémon breaks out of the ball, you can re-perform the Quick-Catch again, and wait on the shakes again just to be sure you catch it. additional note, Quick-Catch fleeing often leaves a 'Ghost' of the caught Pokémon on the map, which will disappear when tapped on. However, Pokémon from incense will react like they haven't been caught, and bring you back to the catch screen. If a berry was used before you tried to catch it, that berry will also appear to still appear to be in effect (despite how the berry's effect should wear off when the Pokémon breaks out of a ball). Those Pokémon are already Caught or have Fled, so don't waste time trying to catch them again. In the case of a Pokémon who does not have a berry effect applied. if attempting to use a berry results in an error, that Pokémon is also already gone, you can ignore it and move on. (This also applies to Photo-bomb Pokémon. And if you just want to remove them from the map, you'll have to just throw the ball and wait for the Ghost to break out and flee)
I have a question. Lets say I used this quick catch method and left early. But the pokemon managed to escape. Does this pokemon also disappear from the map?
loving these old school trainer tips videos even when I feel like I know everything (Having played since 2016) I always end up learning something thanks nick!
I've been looking for this type of video for a while now. Seeing the changes that have occurred since the gamer first came out is quite interesting. I know not all of the changes have been favorably accepted but it is interesting to see what had changed over the years.
Been playing this game since day 1, and while I know all these tips already, I'll still watch your videos because the content is so good, and I appreciate what you do for the community. Keep up the great content!
@detailwerkzdallas Uhh yeah... that's kinda my point. I want to plug his videos for new players because I respect his content. I'm also the guy who will call out other content creators for over-hyping certain things in PoGo. So... sit down lol.
I wish there was a check box in settings to be able to decrease animation overall. I would love for less animation when overtaking gyms, it just takes so long.
I have watched many circle lock videos, but I have never been able to do it. I watch yours, test it again, and nail it first time. Cheers Nick! Enjoy your trip!
Thanks! I used to watch your videos during the first year of Pokemon Go but stopped playing until a year ago when I picked it back up. I didn't know about the fast catch trick, so you literally saved me about an hour every day. I really appreciate it!
Being a brand new player that has only been playing for 3 days, I really appreciate this video. I've watched a few others about catching techniques but this one was really easy to understand. Thank you for making it easier to understand!
Yes! This was the video I needed! You explained the quick catch better than any other video I tried watching the other day, and included so many more tips I didn’t know about. I thought you did this video and wanted to finally learn this technique but for some reason had trouble finding it. It’d be awesome to see all new videos updating your current beginner/intermediate/advanced UA-cam playlists.
I think its worth saying as I just finished catching my entire stack after noticing the 1st thing was changing, The stack limit is 99 and not 100. After 99 things are stored, upon storing another encounter it will start knocking out the first one on the stack.
i started playing about 5 days after the game came out as a whole, but i stopped for, like, 5 years after gen 2 was released.. so these videos have been great to help me get back into everything ive forgotten! glad to have your channel around, nick :)
I'm loving the new guide style videos! I started playing in the beggining but then stopped. Now that I'm back it's great to have these guides as a reminder!
Good for you for making this video.. its been a long time coming for all the new players.. seeing this is making me reminis to all your begining videos where you were figuring all this out and doing the math.
Hey man, good to see you're still at it! I watched a bunch of your videos when your channel started, then my kid lost interest in the game. Now he's back at it again, so we're re-learning how to play with all the new features.
Thought this was a vid from 2016, but I do appreciate videos like this. I've been quick catching for over 3 years now, could not imagine playing without that technique. I hope many others start to use it now!
Disclaimer to the quick catch method when used on incense attracted Pokémon, they stay on the map and still allow you to encounter them but they disappear on the first rock of the pokeball when “caught” a 2nd time.
or make a mental note of cp and check you catch bag, it also does this (spawn stays on screen) for photo encounters like smeargle if you fast catch those too
do a 2nd try , i u hit the target and the Ball amount reduces by 1 it shouldn't be catched first try. If the amount stays the same u either catch or it flee
I tend to do the slower fast catch method for these Pokemon where in you trigger a fast catch but you wait until you see the start of the third rocking animation to flee so you know you've caught it and even though it will stay on the map you know there is no point in clicking on it to return to the encounter screen with it.
On Android devices you can unlock developer options and add a "sensors off" tile to the shortcuts drop-down menu. This allows you to position the pokemon in AR mode and then disable the sensor which will lock the pokemon in place. This way you can AR quick catch without the pokemon moving around on the screen. It makes quick-catching much easier.
tbh you dont even need to spin the ball when u ''circle lock'' it.. i just push on the ball and hold until the circle is the size of an excellent.. works better imo :) just a tip
Your the first person I've seen so far actually show they're fingers throwing the ball. Been trying to find someone do this for rhe last hour man. SMH. THANK you! 👍
Nice video for new players. I wish the stack box will let me know when is full (100) instead of making me loose a Pokémon. Pretty sure I’ve lost few myself, so I try to catch them from time to time to make more room. 😅
Great to see these tips all in one place! I want to share a slight modification of the quick catch technique, for use when you want to be sure you caught the mon, and you might not be able to re-encounter it. Maybe you're a passenger in a car or something. Anyway, use the same technique, but just wait until the third shake before you run - you can still skip the screens where it displays the catch XP and the mon's info card. And if it breaks out, you're still in the encounter and you can have another go. The other thing you didn't mention is buddy assist - as I'm sure you know, but people reading these comments might not, a great or higher level buddy walking with you can bounce the ball back if the mon attacks while you're throwing. Saves your ball, and might save your catch as well. All the other information about catch modifiers and throwing technique still applies when using buddy assist. And another reason to berry your mon before you stack them - you don't have to worry about stocking up on pinaps or whatever before you catch your stacked mon. The berry will be right there and ready to go when you get to the catch screen.
Thank you for showing us all the different catch bonuses. Thank you for showing us that if you release the ball further up the screen helps to throw the ball further and releasing the ball close to the bottom of the screen is a shorter throw. Not the speed of the throw. Watching you catch the stack makes me wonder how long it took you to amass the whole stack.
One other reason for unstacking, is if you happen to be 100km away from your home city. If you unstack in a far away location, you suddenly get up to 100 Pokémon that you can trade away for at least +3 candies (more if a special event such as this season Go)
One additional note on the circle lock: so long as you didn’t hold it too long, you don’t have to set the circle each time. You can just wait for the next attack and throw again.
As a complete newbie you just have helped me so sooo much, like the AR mode! that's so cool, literally like in real life, also I accidentally found out the research stack by myself lol. thank you thank you!
Great video! The only thing I'd add is the actual % of using the golden berry + ultra ball + curve ball + excellent throw, i know it's just an easy addition, but i think it'd be a cool fact to know
You can’t really add any percentage since every pokemon has different catch rates But to give an idea on the example mewtu Golden razz + curve + excellent = 16% Golden razz + curve = 9% Curve = 4% Regular throw without anything = 2% Meaning with the best catch odd and throwing that 13 times in a row you have a 89% odd of one of the balls actually catching it
@@mitzki1214 i was thinking more of the total catch multipliers. for example, ultra ball has a 2.0 catch multiplier, golden raspberry is 2.5, so if you do a normal throw with an ultra ball and a golden berry, you have a 4.5 catch multiplier
something like this: - ultra ball → 2.0 - golden raspberry → 2.5 - curveball → 1.7 - max excellent throw → 2.0 -platinum medal of the Pokémon's type → 1.4 (not sure if the Pokémon has dual typing, this multiplier works for both typings) if we add all this, we get a 9.6 catch multiplier edit: i'm not sure if this is how it works, so don't trust my math

Guessing you’re a new comer too Pokemon Go then since this info has been out for years so most long term players already knew about these tricks (by my definition I’m classifying a new comer too Pokemon Go that they played the game no more than a year and or did start back in the day but took a very long break from the game but recently came back too it)
Lots of really great tips here thanks a ton. I'll start setting my circles for raid pokemon to get more excellent throws and start stacking my research pokemon now thanks to you
One of the best uses of the research stack imo is keeping big Pokémon for easy excellent throws when you get a “do x amount of excellent/great throws in a row” tasks. If you catch all the small Pokémon and run away from all the big Pokémon from research tasks you can have a stack of all onix/wailmer etc
It's always nice to go back to your stack and see unexpected shiny. The reason why I keep all the cranidos and shieldon recently so I can catch them all later
Here was me thinking that clearing your stack would finally stop your research button from being orange. But you don't clear half your special research so it's still there 🙈
Thanks, finally got the quick catch to work. When catching 'mons that jump around, alternate Nanab berries and other berries. The calming effect of a Nanab berry keeps working until the next berry goes into effect with the hit. A Nanab berry lasts two rounds.
Thank you for the walkthrough of doing quick catches. I’ve only heard about it and never knew I could do it on my phone since it never really made sense for me. Now it clicked 😅
Love your videos Nick, great tips! It would be cool to see a video where you do a complete guide over the numbers and stats of gaining candy XL, the chances of getting it in relation to level of Pokémon, mega level, raids, evos, etc. Would love to see you make that video!
the 2nd to last tip about stalling the circle circumference blew my mind; can't believe i'm just seeing this one. i almost woke up my Go+ saying WAT !!? LOL. i'm halfway through lvl 35, had multiple legendaries run on me during the NY goFest & can't help but think how many more of them i would've caught if i knew the multiplier ratios & these tips & tricks. i'll def be putting some of these (some i already do) into practice. thanks Nick !
Day 1 player here and I just learned the quick catch thanks to you 🙏🏼 Edit.. ok I actually didn’t know anything in the entire second half of this video. Thank you!!!
2:00 wait, does the size of the circle actually matter, or does only the tier of the circle matter? Saying “smallest possible” confused me. Does the smallest possible excellent throw have a higher catch bonus than the biggest possible excellent throw? Or the smallest possible nice throw vs the biggest possible nice throw? Also, if the nice throw is only 1x, does that mean that missing the circle decreases your catch chance, or does it mean that nice throws are the exact same thing as missing the circle on an excellent?
No, -Nice Throw = a big circle recticle -Great Throw = a medium circle recticle -Excellent Throw = a small circle recticle In my experience, I usually only get (Nice Throws) and (Great Throws), rarely any (Excellent Throws). Basically, all of the (Nice Throws/Great Throws/Excellent Throws) will increase the chances of successfully catching the Pokémon
Very helpful video, also worth mentioning that premier balls have same catch rate as normal pokeballs. But very great video put together. Nick if you have a friend or family member, videoing a protégé starting the game in 2022 could be a great idea for a video. So many changes now from starting back then.
Watching Nick finally clean out his research catches was the real reason to watch the video. Great tips and explanations for beginner and expert catching techniques

The quick catching guide was EXTREMELY helpful!
Once you start quick catching, you'll never go back!
It doesn't work on special spawns tho. Only normal wild spawn. It's an instant flee on incense, daily spawn, and lure pokemon
A tip for using the Quick Catch on a more difficult Pokémon, or a Pokémon that has appeared from a lure that you fear might disappear from the map if you leave the catch screen. Great video! The only thing I'd add is the actual % of using the golden berry + ultra ball + curve ball + excellent throw, i know it's just an easy addition, but i think it'd be a cool fact to know
You can’t really add any percentage since every pokemon has different catch rates
But to give an idea on the example mewtu
Golden razz + curve + excellent = 16%
Golden razz + curve = 9%
Curve = 4%
Regular throw without anything = 2%
Meaning with the best catch odd and throwing that 13 times in a row you have a 89% odd of one of the balls actually catching it
@@mitzki1214 i was thinking more of the total catch multipliers. for example, ultra ball has a 2.0 catch multiplier, golden raspberry is 2.5, so if you do a normal throw with an ultra ball and a golden berry, you have a 4.5 catch multiplier
something like this:
- ultra ball → 2.0
- golden raspberry → 2.5
- curveball → 1.7
- max excellent throw → 2.0
-platinum medal of the Pokémon's type → 1.4 (not sure if the Pokémon has dual typing, this multiplier works for both typings)
if we add all this, we get a 9.6 catch multiplier

This was super helpful your the only kne thats like showed how to do the quick catch efficiently thank you for that!
I always forget about the AR quick catch. Thanks Nick. I should totally stack some Pokemon as well. Always providing the best trainer tips!
I'm loving these videos. It's really getting me back to playing lately.
Thank you for the walkthrough of doing quick catches. I’ve only heard about it and never knew I could do it on my phone since it never really made sense for me. Now it clicked 😅
Very Helpful to all levels on Pogo.Great content.....
Awesome, succinct video on very useful techniques. Hopefully this helps out many newer or unaware players!
Thank you so much. I didn’t know there were tricks. Still learning how to play certain parts of it
Love your videos Nick, great tips!
It would be cool to see a video where you do a complete guide over the numbers and stats of gaining candy XL, the chances of getting it in relation to level of Pokémon, mega level, raids, evos, etc.
Would love to see you make that video!
Thanks dude, came back to this game like 2 years break, nice to remind myself these tricks !!!
the 2nd to last tip about stalling the circle circumference blew my mind; can't believe i'm just seeing this one. i almost woke up my Go+ saying WAT !!? LOL. i'm halfway through lvl 35, had multiple legendaries run on me during the NY goFest & can't help but think how many more of them i would've caught if i knew the multiplier ratios & these tips & tricks. i'll def be putting some of these (some i already do) into practice. thanks Nick !
Probably the most Trainertips Trainer Tips video yet
This brought me back to 2016 and learning how to throw pokeballs for the first time.
I’ve been playing since day one and I had no idea about that last tip with the research! That’s actually so cool and I’m gonna start using that.
Good video man, I finally understand how to do the quick catch trick...and it didn't crash my app!
DUDE, THANK YOU. This video is beyond helpful.
Such good tips. Thanks for the vid!
I can’t believe it took me this long to learn how to quick catch. Thank you!
Thank you for explaining and demonstrating how to do quick catching! I’m still getting the hang of it, but I’m making progress on it.
the forth and fifth tricks are super useful!!
Day 1 player here and I just learned the quick catch thanks to you 🙏🏼
Edit.. ok I actually didn’t know anything in the entire second half of this video. Thank you!!!
for the circle lock, once u've done it and as long as u only throw while the pokemon is attacking it remains as u locked it
I had no idea you can stack research tasks to 100! Ima start doing that now.
Keep sharing them good tips. New players will be looking for current up to date tips and strategies.
Back to the real Trainer tips love it
2:00 wait, does the size of the circle actually matter, or does only the tier of the circle matter? Saying “smallest possible” confused me. Does the smallest possible excellent throw have a higher catch bonus than the biggest possible excellent throw? Or the smallest possible nice throw vs the biggest possible nice throw? Also, if the nice throw is only 1x, does that mean that missing the circle decreases your catch chance, or does it mean that nice throws are the exact same thing as missing the circle on an excellent?
No,
-Nice Throw = a big circle recticle
-Great Throw = a medium circle recticle
-Excellent Throw = a small circle recticle
In my experience, I usually only get (Nice Throws) and (Great Throws), rarely any (Excellent Throws).
Basically, all of the (Nice Throws/Great Throws/Excellent Throws) will increase the chances of successfully catching the Pokémon
Wow I didn't knew the AR trick, thx!
And I can finally get excellent throws! Thank you again so much!!!❤❤❤
Very helpful video, also worth mentioning that premier balls have same catch rate as normal pokeballs. But very great video put together. Nick if you have a friend or family member, videoing a protégé starting the game in 2022 could be a great idea for a video. So many changes now from starting back then.
Imagine trying to take down gyms nowadays as a newcomer...
Good video, only you didn't say anything about the 'critical catch'. Is there any data known how or when you have this or how to get this even more?
