I want his family to know he was LOVED by ALL Liverpool fans, I cried when I heard he passed away. His smile was infectious. Love you EM. Liverpool Legend !
Respect to a man who formed a lot of my childhood memories - a real captain - who played with intelligence and heart - and always a smile .. that smile RIP EMLYN
Nice one skosa, Emlyn was a true legend at Liverpool, and he was also fondly thought of at Wolves, lifting up the League Cup in 1980 the only trophy that had eluded him. Glad to say i was there. RIP Crazy Horse
Klopp would have loved Emlyn. No question he would have fitted into Klopps philosophy. Crazy Horse never stopped running. God bless you Emlyn RIP. Current crop of Liverpool players should watch this video before signing a contract. This is what a passionate Liverpool player who wears the crest on his chest should do for his family. YNWA
@@mickpearson6184 I agree kind sir. Emlyn was the apitamy of what a modern day complete player should be. It's so sad how his Liverpool career ended. God bless Crazy Horse
Bill Shankly said Emlyn had everything as a player. One of Liverpool's true greats, who apart from being the skipper at the start of the glory years, always gave absolutely everything. Great tackler, header of the ball, and scored more than the occasional spectacular goal. He also kept us entertained after he hung up his boots, and was just as much the entertainer off the field as he was on it. Great, great player and character. RIP Emlyn.
Blimey I posted on this 4 years and the last person 3 years ago, I can't believe no one's commented since. Oh well....just love that moment with Ronnie Moran and Emlyn, where Ronnie reaches out to Emlyn in such a kindly way, ....and the dummy towards the end, did what Pele couldn't do.....unbelievable player, pure passion....thank you to the person who put this video together...its immense!
Aww...Emlyn Hughes,One of my Footie telly heroes in the '70's..even as a kid ,he made me smile.I didn't understand as a nipper what a great player he was 'til I got older.Might be a trite thing to say,but I wish we had eleven Emlyns playing for our National side now.We might not win more, but it wouldn't be for the lack of total commitment...God bless you,'Crazy Horse'...
I never had the pleasure of meeting Emlyn but my Mum & Dad did at Wetherby Races and got his autograph for me. They both said he was the perfect gentleman. I always wanted his teams to win on "A Question Of Sport".
Emlyn Hughes was not only a great player but a truly nice gentleman, a quality that is not seen too often these days. A great tragedy he died so young but his place in the history of Liverpool Football Club is secure.
A fantastic leader and an inspiration to millions around the world on how to enjoy, actually enjoy success. It was terrible the way his Liverpool career ended though. His last game for the reds came against Man Utd in the FA cup semi in 1979 and he was caught out of position for United's goal. Bob Paisley was furious and dropped him a week or so before his testimonial Emlyn never played for us again Bob could be sharp when he needed to be it was sad not to see Emlyn join in the celebrations when we clinched the league against Villa just twelve months after lifting back to back European cups at Wembley v Bruges I suppose he got some revenge when he went to Wolves and scored against his old team and Paisley in a 4-1 win
Fantastic player, a joy to watch. He & Kenny D. the best joyful face after scoring. Football is a cruel taskmaster & loyalty not always rewarded. Bob Paisley probably found it hard to tell a player of long standing that its time to move on & blaming him for a mistake & then shun him & put him on offer, job done. Shanks was no different.
West Brom fan here. We could have used a player as good as Emlyn a few times over the years. Great player - underated in a way - It's true what Shanks said "He had everything"
This is my favourite video on YT, you really capture the spirit of LFC and Emlyn, I saw his entire career for the reds, no one brought that passion and enthusiasm like him, I'm glad he cannot se how far we have gone down the pan, RIP Emlyn, Bob and Bill
Brings tears to my eyes........ Liverpool Football Club meant so much to Emlyn Hughes, full of passion & heart he gave everything! You can see how much it meant to him when he scored........ Wish the crap he have playing for us today had the same attitude and desire as him. RIP Emlyn! sadly missed here in Liverpool. x
The infectious spirit of Emlyn Hughes. I'm sure his personality is one of the main reasons for Liverpool's success, especially after Shankly left. That team spirit had to come from somewhere I've been a Manchester United fan most of my life - but Roy Keane had nothing on this guy. I guess Keane & Fergie (also Beckham, tbh) provided the determination & Nicky Butt & Dwight Yorke provided the smiles for them Perfect song to go with the video, by the way. And look at how Shankly holds himself as he leads Liverpool out (about 13 seconds into the video) - another man of superb charisma
he fantasic guy in life, meet him lots time, lived near me for yrs in barrow.in.furness till he married moved away, sadly his mam only died less 2 yrs ago, statue him in my street in barrow.in.furness,.rip emlyn, always only 1 crazyhorse, you never walk alone now.
Remember Emlyn , the BEST LIVERPOOL captain EVER! see a HERO end of the 60's .. he ran from just outside our penalty area with the ball , the whole length, then smashed the ball past Jenning (spurs GK was one of the top GK in the world) immense .. only one to lift the European Champions trophy twice (77-78) was Shanks :son: on the field..
As shanks said he had everything But what epitomises emlyn hughes was his beaming smile and how much he loved playing the game but most importantly he loved being a winner & wat a winning legend he was RIP crazy horse
Watching this makes you realise how good Emlyn was and how underated also. He did things that Steven Gerrard does now, plus he could play anywhere at the back or across the midfield. PLUS, he played the game with a smile on his face! Fantastic!!
The last 20 seconds knocks me on my ass .......Dalglish & Hughes have the greatest smiles in football....They loved their professions and lives........
Favourite player of all time. Not the most talented but the most enthusiastic. Always played with a smile on his face. Magnificent man. Loved by all at molineux. UTW.
It's strange to say he was your all-time favourite but not the most talented. He's England's greatest left-back and in the top three centre-backs with Kevin Beattie and Bobby Moore. England's best defender, I'd say - although started it at left-midfield. He's also up in Liverpool's top three centre-backs with Hansen and Lawrenson, and their best-ever left-back.
Not just a great player, a brilliant ambassador for football.. but a really decent fuggin nice bloke who made us all laugh on Question of Sport . Great guy. Greatly missed.
he was always smiling laughing . whenever you seen him on TV. he was also fan of boxing.he knew a lot.he would have also made very good come tarot for boxing.never a dull moment.
Well done skosa, great video. One of Emlyn's goals I remember was vs Southampton at Anfield in the early 70's right at the end of the season (featured I think on Match of the Day but too late to make goal of the month or indeed goal of the season), he started the move deep in his own half and finished it in style. If you or anyone can find it it would be great to see it again.
Great Player, Great Video could have done with a Manfred Mann soundtrack!....highlight got to be the header in 1969 in front of the Gladwys Street in the 3-0 'Sandy Brown' game when Everton were top of the table. RIP Emlyn YNWA thanks for the memories son
Heart on his sleeve, proper captain! And corking goals to boot, he is not mentioned enough in English footballing fokelaw, let alone Liverpool ( when I did a tour there) i can't understand it!!
Does anyone remember a goal scored by Emlyn Hughes vs Southampton at Anfield April 1971 or 1972, he started the move very deep in his own half and kept running forward to volley it home after a number of passes? Better still can anyone post film of it?
I want his family to know he was LOVED by ALL Liverpool fans, I cried when I heard he passed away. His smile was infectious. Love you EM. Liverpool Legend !
Better fullback then trant
He wasn’t a full back he was a centre back
What a fantastic smile. Nobody has lifted a trophy with such joy on his face. RIP
Would walk into the greatest Liverpool team of all time. This is a brilliant tribute to Mighty Emlyn.
Agreed. RIP Emlyn - a great man and a great inspiration. What a hugely positive person he was after football too. Much missed our Emlyn.
that WAS the greatest REdS yeam of all time 77-78-79
Better than Gerrard as a box to box midfielder ? ... I think so
Im from down south, Emlyn Hughes was a sound solid player his enthusiasm showed in every game he played. RIP
Gives me goose bumps every time I watch this. The song to go with it - perfect!

Didn't realise how many goals he scored - and what real quality bye the way. Legend no doubt. RIP
With a smile a big as the mersey tunnel Emlyn Hughes lifts the European cup for Liverpool Again!
Players don't celebrate like that any more when scoring a goal meant everything....brings tears to my eyes....Love Emlyn Hughes RIP.

He was simply the most humble, grounded and brilliant player and a captain I defy even the most jaundiced and cynical teammate not to follow.
