    Sounds like a pretty straightforward process to get a visa, once you've got all your paperwork in order.

We follow that in Portugal we would not have o pay taxes for 10 years (USA citizens)What would it be in Spain, we are retired, so how would we be taxed? Thanks for your extreme professionalism in your videos. We have visited both countries, but would rather be in Spain as we are both Spanish speakers.

    I lived in Spain for 3 years starting in 1978. I lived in Madrid. It was only 3 years after Franco died. The people and food were incredible! As a 22 year old, you really can’t move to Spain and work. You should get a job that has business in Spain and transfer there. Unemployment in your age range is super high so they won’t let you take a job from a citizen. To have any chance, you’d need to be fluent. Maybe get ur feet wet by getting a TEFL certificate and teach English/Spanish, but $ not so good.

    2 days ago my wife said let's go retire in Spain. We each will be fully retired from the Air Force in a year and in our early 40s.
    Life in the US somehow feels fake and superficial.
    We lived in Germany for 4 years and loved the European simple life.
    Do you think it's more beneficial to become a dual citizen?

    Just to clarify, are you saying that I need to buy a roundtrip ticket to Spain even though there is no assurance that I would be granted a visa? Also, if I am applying for a "Non-Lucrative Residence" visa, why would they require a roundtrip ticket?

    Our Rich Journey,
    Great video and very informative, thanks for the upload. My fiance and I were planning on taking a trip to Spain in the new year, we haven't decided where to start though. What would you suggest is the best time of year to visit, and the best city? We were thinking Madrid but I would like to hear your input. Anyways thanks again

    • @OurRichJourney
      @OurRichJourney  5 років тому

      That is actually a tough question to answer. There are so many wonderful cities in Spain and it depends on your taste and interests. We really like Barcelona year-round. It can be crowded in the summer but the beaches are the best. If your Spanish isn't great its also the most English friendly. So much to do and see there. Seville would be our second suggestion but not in the summer. It can be dangerously hot. Other than summer the city is great. Lots of history and great day trips (Cordoba, Malaga, Ronda). Madrid is also a great city but its never really been at the top of our lists. We've only spent a couple of days there but we had a great time . In fact we discovered we were pregnant with out first child while we were there. Funny thing is we'll be staying there for a couple of days later this month before before flying to Porto for a long stay. We are really excited about Porto and Lisbon right now. If you have a chance check out one of those cities as well. Thanks for the question.

      OMG! So true. We did not have AC but some how managed. Whats even worse was that our car didn't have AC! LOL. So to stay cool in the summer we would mist each other on road trips. But other than the 2 months of really hot weather, Seville was amazing. Its also close enough to the coast that we found ourselves at the beach every weekend. Thanks for the comment!

    I visited Spain late-October thru early-November in 2017. More specifically Pamplona for a week and Barcelona for about 5 days. Watching a futbol match, Messi of course, was the driving force for this vacation. But it was enough time spent to want to return for an extended visit. However, being in a wheelchair makes me hesitant. What would you recommend?

    • @OurRichJourney
      @OurRichJourney  5 років тому

      We love Barcelona! We went to basketball game at the arena next to big futbol stadium. We've found that Europe can be just as accessible as the US. Especially bigger cities like Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon. And accessibility is improving in small towns and villages. One tip would be to pick a city and go to forums, Facebook groups, and travel sites and ask about accessibility. We often stay at AirBnBs and many will also have notes about accessibility. You can also ask the AirBnB host about it.

    • @OurRichJourney
      @OurRichJourney  5 років тому +3

      Great point on taxes. Since everyone's situation is different it was hard to address this point in our video. Taxes in Spain can be high on earned income on pensions and its really important to consult a tax adviser before retiring there. Based on our estimates we'll pay about 25% on certain income. Have you considered retiring in Portugal? We are leaning towards Porto or Lisbon because we'll pay no taxes on pension and investment income for the first 10 years due to Portugal's treatment of taxes for retirees.

      It depends on what you intend on doing in Spain. They also have a retirement visa if you plan to retire early. There is no requirement that you make minimum salary. The only requirement is that you have a certain amount in annual income (from your retirement investments), which is dependent on the number of members in your family.

But dont worry because people are very understanding and very patient in southern Spain. Just try your best and you'll fine. As a back-up you should download Google Translate on your smart phone. This app is a life saver when we travel. The photo function translates text in real-time. 6 weeks! WOW! You'll have so much fun. Make sure to visit Cordoba, Malaga, Cadiz, and Ronda. No that would not be correct. Certain expenses will not be half. Rent is your biggest monthly expense. Let's say a couple is living in a 1 bedroom apartment paying $850, as a single person renting a 1 bedroom apartment, you will still be paying $850 vs $425.

Our general advice is to study your existing expenses and pick one thing at a time to analyze and optimize and then move on to the next. Examples: food, insurance, tv, phone, internet, housing, clothing, etc. If you can reduce by a small amount in each area the total savings will be high. I hope this general advice helps. But if you would like us to study a specific expense, please let us know and we'll try to address it in our money saving videos. Thanks for the comment!
